Wonder Graphics: Ziggurat

I'm not sure offhand where an appropriate thread would be, so I'll just fly by the seat of my pants and give you a rundown. Usually when people post building graphics, like these, there are icons provided for buildings-large.pcx and buildings-small.pcx, both in Art\City Screen\. The large version is what shows up on the current production button, the small for the queue. In addition, there are normally small and large civilopedia icons which go in Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Buildings. The large version of these is oftentimes the posted preview. If the building is intended to be a wonder, a wonder splash is provided too, which goes in Art\Wonder Splash\. In general, pictures for the Aerial City View are not provided because the city view is pretty severely hardcoded and no new city view pictures can be added (you can only modify existing ones.)

The buildings-large and buildings-small are just a big vertical list of graphics which matches the order the improvements are listed in the BIC file and so you have to paste the icons into the appropriate spots. The civilopedia and splash icons are referenced from Text\PediaIcons.txt

I think that covers the graphical additions.

Thanks, too bad the City View is Hard coded :(. Though I would have to keep in mind that the city has built a Improvement or Wonder Outside the city

I'd love to know. I keep hearing that ADDING can't be done ... I presume this has to do with algorithms of placement etc. ... I'm simply delighted to use these as icons in the "worst" case ...

BUT

where /how does the Civilopedia link to the City View?? For mods of limited historical scope, surely REPLACING Darwin with the 5 Year Plan or whatever should be doable, yes ... ???

Regarding the city view, if you replace the darwin wonder in your improvement/wonder list and then replace the darwin city view graphic with a 5-year plan graphic, then it should, AFAIK, work. As I understand it, the game has a list of city view filenames hardcoded into it. When it needs to display the city view image for improvement #X, it looks up what filename that is on its internal and unchangeable list, and uses the graphics in that file. This is why you can modify current graphics but cannot add new improvements to the city view.

EXCELLENT :goodjob: I'll give it a shot.

-- On a related note, can TWO wonders share one Civilopedia entry and graphic??

Let's say I want to use the Pyramids for TWO New World wonders, "The Pyramid Of The Sun" and "The Pyramid Of the Moon". Different effects, same Civilopedia entry. Any thoughts, anyone? If this works and they're built in the same city, I presume one would just overlay the other ...?

Many Thanks,

Oz

Ukas, I took a quick look at the instructions you posted, and it looks good. You should post that in the tutorials forum :)

Agreed, seconded, etc. I think many people would appreciate knowing how to do this!

Abraxas,

Oz

Since yesterday you have been able to read it there. :)

I'm busy with the final work at the moment, no time to do buildings at all. Even I work with the computer there's a world of difference between what is relaxing and what is not. Things should be better before the weekend though.

My final work is animation, so probably will start to work with units at some point - way in the future.:D

Ukas

I think you can consider your cheering squad for units as already being fairly well established!

What is your great lost civilizations mod about? Sounds really interesting!

THX Thamis

In this Mod you'll be able to play any lost civilization who made the world in an era between 4000BC and 300AD. The mod stop with barbarians invasions and the begining of the dark ages.

It's in early production but it's on the good way ! ;)

The Civ will not be restricted on the mediterranean one, in final version, you'll be able to play with the Olmecs and Early Chinese dinasty. Of course there will be Phenicians, Delos League, Peloponesian (Spartian Dominion).
There will not be Barbs like the Huns or Goths, since they didn't let significal World Advance.

There will be scenario like the Pelopese and Punique war

This mod is not mean the be play on real world map (exept for scenarios of course) thus he could !

It will feature great naval war (with a lot of new ship unit), because the civ who rule the sea will be a commercial leader.

I know that you made TAM Thamis and let me say to you that it was a great work :goodjob:, thus I want to go further and deeper.
By the way thanks to showing us the way

What else can I say. We're 3 for the moment working more and less on this mod.
I wan here to say thanks to Ukas who isn't a team member but have done very nice work for "The Great Lost Civilizations" mod. He designed building like Thermes, Forum, etc...

Hope this will answer your question. Else send me a PM, I'll be glad to speak with you ! :)

I modified one of the photos from that website LBPB recommended above to make this Wonder Splash for the Great Ziggurat. It could have been better but I'm sure it suffices for our playing needs.
