Wonder Ideas for C2C

I like the Closed Borders Civic link to that. We don't have many things linked to the new civics. SO that's would be nice.

I can't think of any good Wonder ideas linked to Skilled Workers Only (H-1B Visa Program is NOT a Wonder!) or Secure Borders. Open Borders, naturally, gets Ellis Island (Give me your tired, your poor... and while you're at it, bring your homeland cultures with you). I still have to at least attempt that one. I'm trying to figure out this Blarney Castle event loop puzzle and get all my other half-done wonders into the proper configuration with the artwork folder structure and a static image movie.

Berlin Wall.
This is the base structure of the Wall:
Cost: 1000 (it's supposed to be cheap to build, but you pay for it in other ways)
Technologies: Automatic Weapons AND Civil Engineering AND Fascism
Civics: Fascist (I'm thinking Closed Borders as well?)
+4 culture, +2 Great People (Great Spy)
Expires: Skyroads

What do you think would work?
This sounds good, except for linking it to fascism.
Although the wall is located in Berlin it is build way after the facist period in germany.
In fact the wall was build by the soviets (or at least they forced Ullbricht to build the wall), so a link to communism would be more appropriate.

Fascism as a civic in C2C is really an enormous misnomer; actual fascism is really a lot closer to a Society civic and would be a distinctly different entity from both Marxism and Nationalist+Planned. It seems to reflect a highly organized, modern day Despotism, as far as I can tell.

According to Mussolinis definition of fascism, it is the merging of the interests of big capital and the states willingness to give a helping hand in that.

So, the big capital calls the shots and the state answers them by executing the requests (for example low loans, low labor standards and low taxes for the rich).

A lot of theorists have connected the dots and said that capitalism itself has -especially in crisis because of unbalanced, extreme greed- inherent tendencies to lift its democratic mask and show its real face underneath: fascism.

As Jefferson once said: the price of freedom is eternal vigilance!

So, in C2C economic capitalistic civics and fascism could very well give synergy bonuses of certain kinds, I think. And I say that as a leftist...

EDIT: I think why C2C is so successful is the non-capitalistic and pretty basic-democratic mechanics how work is done. It's pure passion, like in star trek that drives us and no usual work-pressure is making us ill - if you don't mod for a day or week or month nobody will be angry (although maybe sad)
The organisation and appreciation of work in the coming decades will shift to this model, once the profits of assembly lines robotocized work will be shared with all instead of only benefiting a small elite with much too much in their pockets.
The freedom and accessibility of information is essential to this process and the young and precarious knowledge elite will lead the way. You and me.

Mussolini's economics were actually a lot closer to what in modern times is known as syndicalism or Third Positionism, but in practice he was less interventionist than the democratic government that preceded him. You could make the case for a synergetic bonus with the modern day quasi-fascist People's Action Party of Singapore, but when it comes to civics, I prefer to keep them seperate (keeps em easier to balance) and ultimately, I think balance should trump realism in the civics department, given one person's assessment of a political systems benefits and disadvantages may vary quite significantly, whereas game balance is rather more objectively quantifiable.

Anyhow, I think Closed Borders is a sufficient bonus for Berlin Wall; there are historical examples of civs which C2C would not class as Fascist that have used or proposed similar projects, like the West Bank Barrier or proposed fencing between the US and Mexican borders, or even less physical forms of fencing like Australia's use of Christmas Island as a detainment center for boat people.

Well, while we're discussing the Berlin Wall, I've committed four more Wonders to the SVN. The first two are modifed versions of the River Rouge Complex and Willow Run I posted earlier.

I've toned down River Rouge to maxing out at +100% hammers with all of the resources (Aluminum/Coal/Copper/Iron/Oil/Rubber). I feel with a bonus that big, it doesn't need a specific bonus to military production.

Likewise, Willow Run has been brought down to +25% hammers and +100% air unit production. I dropped the general military bonus completely.

Somehow, it seems to feel better when I can create Wonders in pairs. I took two of HydromancerX's ideas and made them into Wonders.

Alcatraz is a World-strength version of the Maximum Security Prison.

Coit Tower celebrates firefighters. It's the first Wonder I have posted that uses the <GlobalBuildingExtraCommerces> tag. I've been wanting this tag for a long time. This adds culture bonuses to some of the firefighting buildings.

The TXT_KEY_FIRE_HANGER is a glitch somewhere in the rest of the code. I've posted it on the v21 bugs thread. It's just a display issue and doesn't affect the working of the wonder at all.

Is Wembley supposed to be a National Wonder or a World Wonder? It's a National Wonder at the moment.

Platyping has it as a national wonder. I think it may be way over balanced for C2C given the runaway happiness so it may need a cap added to the gold boost.

@Vokarya

Here are some more wonders for you to consider making. This time some Vegas ones ...

- Vegas Vic
- Luxor Casino
- Stratosphere Casino
- Excalibur Casino
- Circus Circus Casino

I was thinking maybe you could have a special "Vegas Strip" Wonder if you have some or all of the wonders in the same city.

Note all of these would be intended to require "Legalized Gambling" tech. Possibly also Tourism and/or Civil Engineering.

Legalized gambling sounds mlee like it should be a civic than a tech to me. No idea where it would fit though since it's rather specific.

Not a short term thing, but it makes me think we need an intermediary property between civics and buildings etc. In such a scheme 'legalized gambling' would be a property that is a prereq for various buildings. It would be sourced by a civic. That way we could have (by way of example) a civic choice 'social attitude' that has choices like 'higly conservative' through to 'extremely liberal'. The liberal end of the spectrum would be a source for the 'legalized gambling' property (and 'legalized drugs' and other stuff maybe), which in turn would enable buildings etc.

The point here is that a civic -> intermediate property -> building enablement scheme enables us to conceptualize things in groups (legalized gambling in this case) which can have multiple effects, without having to specify the individual effects in each sourcing civic (or anything else - an event, neighbors cultural influence, etc. Could in principal all source intermediate properties like this)

I'm actually working on the Las Vegas Strip right now. I had Monte Carlo on my list forever, but I was waiting for that building commerces tag. I'm doing some playing around to get an image for the "Jackpot" event. Las Vegas Strip and Monte Carlo will be two separate wonders, don't go in the same city together, but they will both have an event attached for when someone hits the jackpot at either building.

I have special buildings called "Ordinances". These are linked to national wonders, thus they can only be built in one city. So far I have ...

- Ordinance - Carpool (Req Department of Motor Vehicles and Courthouse)
- Ordinance - Fire Code (Req National Fire Service and Courthouse)
- Ordinance - Smoke Detectors (Req National Fire Service and Courthouse)
- Ordinance - Neighborhood Watch (Req Police Academy and Courthouse)
- Ordinance - Youth Curfew (Req Police Academy and Courthouse)

I have a bunch more I plan to do. If I could make them something between civics and buildings that would be great. But for now I just have them as buildings linked to National Wonders.

I still think big landmarks like the Luxor Casino or Stratosphere Casino should have their own wonders. Its not their fault they are in a city full of other wonder/landmarks.

These are great Vokarya. Thanks for making them!

I think anything named after a specific place should be a World Wonder and not a National Wonder.

Wallstreet is National, Oxford University is National.
I just follow suit :D

I mean I follow the Firaxis guidelines not C2C guidelines lol.
They classify them as National, so I follow suit.

To me, World Wonder has to be something of internationally recognized value, whether it is culure, religious or great engineering feat.

Oxford is just a university in England, anything so special to classify it as a world wonder?
Same as Wembley, it is just a stadium after all.

No Wall Street and Oxford University are Great Wonders. Even check the C2C civpedia.

But they shouldn't be, and aren't in standard BtS. Most nations have a financial district eg "The City" in London. Most have important major universities or military training facilities. Most also have a monument that reduces war weariness. However C2C does not mirror that it says there is only one and most of them are in the US.:mischief:
