Words can't say how much I hate Civ V music. Some videos can

I must agree.

I've been playing for several hours now & I keep realizing just how much I hate it.

I personally think I got spoiled by how good civ 3 & 4 music was, especially civ 4.

This is the kind of music you get from much cheaper games. what went wrong?

What happened was, since they divided it by region, peace time, and war, they had to write over a hundred musical pieces. So 90% of them suck.

OMG, CIV 1 sounds. I say SOUNDS, because it would be a insult to call that -m-u-s-i-c :rotfl:

You didn't do me any favor listening to that again ;-)

I especially like that the Modern Age music isnt the horrible monster that was in Civ 4. I had to put in my own music because it was terrible IMO. I do miss some of the diplo music, especially Catherine's

If there'd be three times as much of music for Civ5 as it is now it'd be ok. It's not bad, it's just there's only few tracks here and there that loop through the entire game.

Adding to that this annoying sound whenever you click your units and I mute everything, playing with my own music. Gone are the days of Deus Ex music or Mechwarrior2 stuff, now it's all nothing special.

Geoff Knorr did a nice job, but as with everything else it was rushed/underdeveloped and there's simply not enough score in game to not get you bored to death halfway throguh the game.

It's a matter of taste. I was surprised, at first, at the modern era music in Civ IV, but now I love it. I thought it was brave of Firaxis to select those pieces, and I am sure a lot of people don't appreciate them.

I like classical music, always had, but am not a friend of modern classical compositions. But the music Firaxis selected for the modern era is, in my humble opinion, really great. I ended up buying a few CDs of music composed by John Adams. Still don't think most of his stuff is good, but the one selected by Firaxis, is.

Yes, that's exactly it. The classical music tracks are good (but then, they were good in Civ IV, as well, just that Civ IV had loads more of it), but they are few. The rest is garbage, IMHO.

It is lots of things to complain about Civ5 but music is not in that list.
Got so terribly bored with the modern music in Civ4 but so far I like the music in Civ5.

Civ 5 music like the CIV 5 itself: bland. It's elevator music, and as game music goes, perhaps that's what it should be.

However, compare and contrast that muzak with this piece of music from Civ 2 where you can hear the dawn of Greek civilization; hear how it conveys the idea of 4th century BCE, the "newness" and the optimism of an up-and-coming people.

I think, this is a good metaphor for what Civ could/should have become, but didn't

Stop getting of Topic!

What I said is simple:

-There are some musics that were in civ since 1991
-They are not on Civ 5

My question now is simple, Why CIV V dont have these musics like Civ 1 and Civ 2 and Civ 3 and Civ 4 had?

Why the shinning path,Augustus Rise and other CLASSIC themes that were ALL the games until now werent inclued?

Edit: also for Halo Reach there were less of 7 years of music tradition. Civilization music had tradition from 1991 to 2007 (befeore Rev and 5)

Gotta say I'm with the OP on this one.

As much as I've only played 4 and 5, hearing the themes that have been burnt into my brain after hours upon hours of Civ 4 from as early an era as the original Civ boggles my brain. Each leader has had their own leitmotif for years- dropping them now seems to be the issue, and I've got to agree. Civ 5 feels more... ambient, bland, less memorable. Like the rest of the game, really.

And as to when the tracks play, I'd say I prefer era specific stuff at the moment, though I like the cultural theming. I feel a mixture of both would work very well.

I loved nursery rhymes before I was five. I still like melodies although I'm more likely to enjoy them in the form of Vaughn-Williams's Greensleeves.

In my teens I liked blues particularly if it was played by the Rolling Stones. I'm enjoying the Stones hour right now on broad band internet radio from WKRP (http://www.wfpk.org/live-stream/) - Saturdays 9-10 if you want to look for it.

After my teens I sensed there was a lot of great music out there if only I knew where to look for it. I'd have saved a lot of money if I'd been able to buy a compendium of the music on CivIV for as little as the price of CivIV.

Every single piece on that disc is great music. Some of it will need work before you get it. I know that not everyone will buy the idea that you have to think and work to enjoy great music and that's fine. In that case, I've got a great game you'll enjoy.. http://www.goriya.com/flash/tictactoe.shtml

I agree about the Civ IV music.

But regarding that link, I must say the AI in that tic tac toe is as bad as the one in Civ V. If I tell you that I am the cross, and that it is now my turn, you will understand what I mean (and yeah, I got distracted for a second.... I mean, I was testing the AI, did it on purpose etc.)

EDIT: And to clarify the position: the previous turn I had crosses in the bottom left corner and in the center, and the AI had circles in the other three corners. So I put a cross between the two circles on the right, fully expecting the AI to close the uppermost row. But instead, it opted to block me from closing the middle row!

I'm sorry, I can't get past this part.

I imagine that English is not the first language of many on this forum and they are not aware that the past tense of 'break' is the irregular 'broke' not 'breaked' which would be the regular form.

I'm happy they share their ideas and hope they will continue so to do.

True or not, the original post still reminds me of a screaming toddler, not a discussion. I wouldn't be as harsh if this thread wasn't so negative and immature.

I won't fault people for having troubles with English (it is possibly the most nonsensical language ever devised by man), but I will for posting tantrums.
