Work in Progress - Conquests of Might and Magic III

I've been using Utahjazz7's unit making tutorial. It's a step-by-step tutorial for making a spear unit, but it's a great starter for learning how to go about making a human or humanoid unit (although a flying pixie would be a bit outside its steps, but I'm sure it'll be helpful). Even if certain aspects of the tutorial don't apply to what you're looking for, it's still great for learning how to set up civ colours and I've learned things about Poser I didn't know after years of using it. It's a great tutorial to get you comfortable starting to make units.

If you haven't or aren't using it, I highly recommend it:

About Pov-Ray, I'm pretty sure, if I remember previous posts by aaglo and am interpreting his views correctly, that he would recommend using other (easier;)) programs instead of Pov-Ray, as it is quite complicated. I'm not sure how you are at modelling 3d figures, but I think it might be better to model a figure, import it into Poser, and add a skeleton to it to use Poser for your unit rather than attempt Pov-Ray. I haven't used Pov-Ray myself though, so I'm speaking mostly out of ignorance, just going by what seems to be easiest based on past comments.

Anyways, please keep us updated (with previews if possible) on how the mod/unit making process is going.:)

Thank you very much... I remember seeing his tuturial back in the day, I just skimmed through it and it is very detailed. When I have time, I will go through the whole tuturial from scratch. I've heard Pov-Ray is much more difficult to use without thorough understanding of everything, so I will probably not be going that route (at least not in the near or distant future). Before I start the tuturial, I need to finish converting the 140 or so building graphics over to Civ3 from HoMM.

Pov-Ray is only for people who see code like Neo

So as Morpheus would say about Aaglo: "He is the One"
That would make me as someone who is still hopelessly stuck inside the Matrix. "Ignorance is Bliss" :mischief:

You can see code like Neo also? Like this??:

That is a good thing!

Oh I wish. Anyway, what's the newest update on COMM3?

Well, going through the monotonous tasks of adding building graphics to the tech tree, placing tech tree boxes in their appropriate x,y positions, etc, etc.

I was wondering what may be the best neutral creatures to use as barbarian units though... and also what to actually call barbarian tribes (names?)

Neutral Level 1 or 2 creatures would probably be the best to use, to make sure they are not overly powerful. The Peasant and Halfling are a bit on the weak side, but the Rogue and the Boar fit the bill pretty well (Basic/Advanced Barb respectively). They both have pretty good attack, but defense is not so high to make them invunerable.
The Nomad and Mummy could also potentially be used, although they are Level 3 and may be overpowering early on in the game.

The Rogue/Nomad combo fits the best in terms of neutral theme, then the Mercenary Camp graphic could be used for Barb Camps.

Also, since there are quite a few Neutral Creatures (which belong to none of the HoMM civ's), should I include a Neutral Civ in the Epic game which can then build these units? Otherwise, there is no other way to include them, since they can't be preplaced.

I'll try to post a new update in a couple weeks, I have to finish moving by the end of this week, get everything moved into new place, and I'm going to try to concentrate on making the units I need (and learning to do so in the process) in the meanwhile.

For barb tribe names, you can use things like: <Civ Adjective> Raiders
Like, Deyjan Raiders, Elven Raiders, Kreegan Raiders, Krewlod Raiders... etc. What-think?

Added: or maybe even just Raiders :p

That's a good idea, since the order of barb names on the list revolves around culture groups IIRC, I can make Deyjan barbs more likely to appear away from Deyja, etc.

I have started the Interface graphics today, and (only) completed the main screen so far. The buttons in the pic have not been changed yet, and civilopedia screens, etc also have not been done yet. This was a test game from a small quick game to make sure that civ's would build the appropriate buildings.

I had to lower the quality of the pic to a 30% of the original to keep size small:

I played Heroes of M&M back in days. The mod looks familar.
One problem though: when I see resources I feel like going to pick them up.. ;) j/k

It is possible to make one frame flc`s of the resources.;) So they could even be used as Princess Units.:) Not sure how many different Princess are allowed.

That's a great idea... it would have to be solely for scenario's though, since an epic mod has no way of randomly distributing princesses throughout the map :) I don't think...

Civilopedia graphics are complete  (for Civ A pcx at least, still need to finish B through G PCX's, although I now that I have the template for them setup, the rest should go fairly quickly), here is a screenshot... Note, Building graphics are done and are shown, but I have not updated the Tech icons or text at this point.

Still need to recolour the scroll bars, etc.. but that can wait till later.

I'm not sure if more than one type of princess can be available for the same civ. I'll look into it, but perhaps the treasure chests could be made to do this, instead of all resources. It would be an interesting aspect though.

I think chests would be a good way to go. Becasue even if you can have multiple flag units they will all be worth the same amount of gold and VPs.

The interface is looking superb Tom. I'd be tempted to use it just for ordinary civ games as it looks so nice.

Here are a couple more screenshots of the pedia, then I'll call it day. I was able to get all the graphics finished for it, although there are a couple graphical glitches I need to adjust.

Air Spells Level 1 (Note that I have not added any Spells yet)

Actually, you could also make resource capturable, immobile, preplaced unit with no disband/pillage/load etc. It would have no hp and just sit there as graphical feature and look like this
