workers stopping work

I meant workers orders, but can't edit title.

Relatively new to Civ 5 having played 4 for years. Was wondering why frequently I have to redo workers orders.
In Civ 4 this would happen if the worker was near to an enemy, to give a chance to escape... but in 5 it is seemingly random and happens often. It is mighty annoying to have to continually say "build road" for 20 turns.
Is this a bug? Can't find mention of it.

Moderator Action: Merged with the main thread about this problem.

Just a thought for the devs.
Could it be anything to do with game speeds we are playing, are the guys playing marathon or epic, for my part this is the case!

EDIT
I just find it very strange that nobody responded to my OP for such a long time.
I still can't understand why none of the recognised forum elite players have responded, which is what got me thinking, maybe it's because very good players find the speeds I play at a little to easy!

in case it helps, have added a recent save game...some workers now have armed escorts and seem to work, but i cannot afford to do that for all or well, i'll never have an army to invade civs or happiness.

this is a new install on a laptop, but on my own pc i never had any issues like this, has only happened since new patches/downloads done auto by steam this month

Thanks

I loaded both your save games (in both vanilla and G&K) and everything seems normal to me: Workers continue to build improvements without stopping. Units with orders move to the specified location without having to be told again. You're playing vanilla Civ5 (not G&K) because religion isn't present. I'm not sure what's going on, but the devs are looking at the problem. Hope they find a fix!

Yay! Is it possible there is some setting in the options that would stop them?

Strange thing in my save i linked, the second game it happened on...but hmmm...I attacked persia in the north for first time...and well...my workers started behaving again...maybe they were on strike cos we were at peace and my games i am never at peace lol Some link or just well...coincidence lol

I don't see any obvious settings that would affect this situation. It's possible that there's a difference between the vanilla patch and the one for G&K that's causing this problem.

Same problem here.
The worker working on stone quarry. Hit next turn and unit needs orders. Guess what its the worker from the stone quarry that needs a order again. Very annoying!
And after that i finally can get to the real next turn!

Here is the save file.

Running vanilla civ 5 on a windows 7 computer. Same problem with every worker on a tile that belonged to another civ before I captured it. Every turn, their orders need to be reissued. Hope the devs find a solution, this bug creates mind-numbing boredom.

Hi, I have had the same issue with workers not working a tile after war declaration. even after taking all the cities from the other civ. The workers still need to be reissued orders. I usually use a custom map of earth, So i decide to just do a quick check with a stock map. using the stock map the worker issue does not come up. I do not know if that helps any,

Hi I had the same problem with workers no being able to keep working a tile unless you kept giving them orders. I usually play a custom earth map, So i tried a stock map, and had no issues. I just moved my custom map from documents/my games, to steam/steamapps/common/civ5/assets/maps, declared war on a civ and my worker had no issue working the tile.

Nope, using random generated stock maps, no mods, happens every game.

Anyone know if the same issue exists with G&K? Thinking of upgrading just to fix the problem.

I do not know if it makes a difference, But i had to change my desk top icon for civ 5 when the update happened it changed the properties of the icon to some gameid number. so i deleted that and used the one in the game folder instead.

I spoke to soon. I am in the middle of a marathon game and attacked Germany, and my workers stopped like before. I stared on different continent when I attacked Germany.
When i tried a test game the other civ i attacked started on same continent as I did. I guess i'll try some other test to see.

after playing an extended game on a stock map, I was wrong the problem with workers still exist . I think when a civ gets more than one city thats when the problem occurs. anyway. I'm done testing. guess i will play when they get this problem resolved.

Yeah, me too, Jetmech. I don't feel like being tripped up by workers and others on every turn. :(

One thing I did try yesterday was once a civ declared war and of course workers were to scared to work, I declared war with another civ which was much farther away, and once i did the workers for some reason worked again. not to feasible to be at war with 2 civs at a time just to get workers to finish a tile

ARGH! When will this get fixed. It's making the game majorly unfun to issue the same irrigate order to the same worker 20x.

Irrigate? What tile improvement is irrigate?

Older versions of civ used irrigation to increase farm production and we had to expand outwards from a fresh water sorce. If Lord Ben has recently moved from an older version to the new one then this was an easy mistake to make!

EDIT - So he means to build a farm.

Well whatever you want to call it, I've been playing Civ for 20 years and can't tell you when they stopped calling it irrigate but I never did.
