Its the long weekend. Time to play some serious civ. Sit down, turn on the computer. Nothing happens, the power pack is blown. No worries. Drive to the computer shop, its closed for the long weekend.

That can't be good.

Heh, I mostly just lurk on these forums, but I had to register to answer this one.

Me and a buddy were playing a multiplayer game, he was Augustus, I was Churchill. We were on complete opposite sides of the continent, so I thought I was in no real danger from him. And this is how the game went down:

1400 BC: I get a message from him saying he's going to take the Chinese down in a little bit
1250 BC: The game informs me that the Romans have built the largest force of swordsman in the world and other nations are wondering if they'll even survive
1200 BC: Rome declares war on China
1150 BC: Roman armies have greedily taken resources outside their territory for the merchants at home.
1100 BC: Romans scientists have developed the best shields in the world for their units

OK, during that war, he also popped 2 generals... which meant I was gonna be facing CR3, Cover Praets with... Archers...ouch:lol:

The barbarian uprising...without the Great Wall and me sat around building granaries and the Pyramids.

I get that one all the time, because Mysticism techs are useless to me until the Medieval Age.

lol... I've been away from the computer for a while (broken laptop, sadly!) - so I actually had no knowledge the original thread had been hijacked... :) Still, an honorable and noble move, restarting the thread - much thanks!!

least we could do for a fine idea.

(plus rumor has it that you're not "mostly harmless"..you actualy "sort of harmless". Which makes you far more dangerous than we had first reckoned)

:o

I just finished a long, gruelling war to eliminate my one nasty opponent on the continent I was on. I spent the last I don't know how many turns on "strike," it got so bad, with units disappearing before my eyes. My last available units finally eliminated the computer opponent.

Finally, I thought, I could have some time to recover from that horrible situation, develop my continent (which was a pretty nice one) and be in good position for the future.

So what happens? AS SOON AS my war is over, I get discovered by my first overseas opponent. Is it a little trireme or caravael or fishing boat coming by to say hi? No, it is EVERY FRICKIN GALLEY IN THE WORLD FILLED WITH ENEMY TROOPS and his declaration of war appears on the screen before the discovery screen even pops up. Where is this fleet? Next to my capital, of course.

Discover bronze working... no "we discovered a source of bronze near..." pop-ups.
Discover iron working... no pop-ups.
Neighbours: Mongols and Aztecs.

That can't be good.

In my last game, I saw Ramses sending his navy towards my coast. My naval units were too far away. He sent missile destroyers. I assumed, correctly, what was to come... screen shakes. Ramses went nuclear. I went agro-apesh*t.

Ramses ceased to exist, but my workers were busy for years with fallout.

It was a "this can't be good" because I saw them for a good 2 turns and could do nothing about it. :(

Monty to the south through a heavy jungle, rome to the north, no copper or iron. :(

That cannot be good!

I've explored and traded maps for most of the world...

The bottom half of the World Map in the right-hand corner starts to flicker and change constantly, not ownership so much as continental shifts and transformations...sea changes.

That can't be good...

Playing Marathon, it's early so I have a couple of warriors out scouting, one defending my capital, and none in my second city yet. About 5 tiles away from my second city, I pop a hut with one of my scouting warriors.

"The villagers are hostile!"

(4 barb warriors pop out, I'm on a unforested tundra)

"Your warrior has lost to a barbarian warrior!"

This isn't good...

Sadly, a big one.

Laptop computer develops issues, and after much work culminating in a complete reinstall of Vista, plus a complete reinstall of Civ IV/BTS, the game won't work at all.

That REALLY can't be good!

That's terrible.

I think i found your problem!
(vista is teh evil)
My Mom's computer has Vista and my Nephew is ten years old and Playing CIV just like his drunken no-good uncle. They did the patch to convert it to vista
(whatever that is..i'm 800 miles away) and it didn't work.
Now they can't get civ to work at all. Can't reinstall because the game insists it's already installed. So the kid isn't playing CIV. He could have BEEN SOMEBODY.
Now he'll wind up being a male prostitute or a Lawyer.

That's not good.

My condolences to YOU sir.
