Blizzard's World of Warcraft is finally arriving!! The release date is set for the 22nd or 23rd of this month and the game will go live upon its release. I've enjoyed every game Blizzard has ever produced ~ Diablo and Diablo 2, Warcraft 1, 2, and 3, and Starcraft, and WoW looks like it may very well set a whole new standard of excellence for the next generation MMORPG.

With the news that EQ2, Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed, City of Heroes expansion (City of Villains), and the Matrix Online all coming out this holiday season the MMO field will be quite crowded indeed.

Along the lines of the EQ2 thread.. has anyone else been waiting for WoW's release like I have? If so, what sorts of character(s) do you plan on creating? How do you think this game will stack up against the direct competition of the EQ2 Colossus?

For those with basic questions, please follow this FAQ link..

And here are the expected basic requirements for WoW:

Windows® System 98/ME/2000/XP OS:

* 800 MHz or higher CPU.
* 256 MB or more of RAM.
* 32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware Transform and Lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better.
* 4 GB or more of available hard drive space.
* DirectX® 9.0c or above.
* A 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection.

Mac® System OS X 10.3.5 OS:

* 933 MHz or higher G4 or G5 processor.
* 512 MB RAM or higher. DDR RAM recommended.
* ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 32 MB VRAM or more.
* 4 GB or more of available hard drive space.
* MacOS X 10.3.5 or newer.
* A 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection.

Well enough. Though it sucks that the servers aren't global if I've understood things correctly. There is one for each region and we can't play with/against each other across the Atlantic. :(

There will be different regions like in all battle.net games but that doesn't mean you have to play in your region. There are plenty of non-North americans playing in the NA WoW open beta right now. I've played in the 1st stress test and am playing in the open beta now, still don't like the pricing scheme, $50-$80 for the game plus $16 a month with only 1 month free :eek: But if I do decide to pick it up I want the Collector's Edition so I can have one of the included special pets (mini-Diablo!). Another week or so of playing to make up my mind.

I have been, I played it during the 10 day long stress test and it was awsome, I have already preordered it and it looks to be one of the best MMO games I have seen.

My twin got into this last beta test and he says it rocks. So glad I only have to wait 1 1/2 weeks, cause if it was any longer I would blow.

Gonna start a Dwarf warrior and a Dwarf Rouge both on the rp servers

YAY!!!!!!!!! The wait is finally coming to an end.

I love you Blizzard :worship: :worship: :worship:

Seriously? They are planning on required localized servers? Doesn't sound like a good idea or a Blizzard type move either, but does tend to help with latency.

I'll enjoy this game so much! :D

Would buy it if there waas no PTP fee, or at least not exceding $6. I love all of the gamesd ade by Blizzard. I've even played Blackthorne. I know it's expensive to maintain servers, but look at Guild Wars, no PTP fee there. I'm Definitely going to get Guild Wars.

Yep, it sucks, hopefully they'll get lots of critisism for it and change it!

I'd love to get the game, but I don't have credit card, :cry: :cry:
so i can't get it...

...or is there any other way to pay? Like through a bank account?
I've played the beta test on my friends house, he even allowed me to create my own character (night elf priest, level 3, name: DeathWolf) :p

WOW ROCKS!!!

EDIT: (Did you know that there can be made some fabulous raidin trips (like 40 people at one) at the enemy lands, the furthest some guy(tauren) had got was the gates of Ironforge! Then he was killed by 62-leveled city-guardians ;) )

The new trend in MMORPG's is to offer 'pay to play' cards at retail stores. You can purchase these with cash or a check and they are usually sold at one month access rates. I expect Blizzard will do something similar with WoW as other publishers have done.

Note though: you'll still have to buy the game first. ;)

Also keep in mind that while you have already purchased the game up front with the initial price, new content is constantly being added (at least so they say) and this is the Devs' justification for requiring a monthly access fee.

Lets see. I played Ultima Online for years, and WoW must be REALLY wow to arise my interest again. But my MMORPGing days are not yet over. Maybe the World of Warcraft will become a new virtual homeworld to me. :)

anyone know when are they going to release it here in europe?

No clue but since the European Beta is still going on I would have to say another month yet

They (Blizzard) only said that they will release it in 23'rd of this month but that is only the American release i guess.
Yeah that's the date for the North American release, 26th for Australia and parts of Asia and sometime in February for Europe. Electronics Boutique had theirs in already today but won't let them out till Tuesday (even though mine is preordered!).

So anyone actually playing this now? I am, and its great................but Blizzard seriously underestimated the demand and so all servers are laggy
