Writing in Gunpowder

No problem Hawklord.

The peaceful people of Seville, using fresh barbarian slaves from the south, completed their latest project early - a giant statue of Antonio, the time traveler, which sits on a large stone in their harbor. (The Colossus)

Meanwhile, Isabella sent one of her high priests down to the recently conquered people of Casablanca to begin implementing her policies. These barbarians had their own religion of confucianism, and while it is not the Spanish state religion of Islam, taught to the Queen by Antonio, the people wished to build a shrine in the holy city. The high priest helped the people finish the shrine with the permission of the Queen, for she knew it would surely generate taxable revenue to the crown. The confucian people would not be persecuted in Spain, and in fact, Isabella allowed a confucian missionary to bring his teachings to Madrid, so she may learn more and be able to speak of the religious teachings of the people of Casablanca, further bringing their people closer to her empire, especially with its distant location.

Hmmmmm, if you want I can take the Dutch and you the French. I have never played them before and we wouldn't want things to get too repetitive for you, now would we?

Hm, Great Spy born in Moscow, I don't like that at all.

Urgh, stupid Russians launched a Golden Age.

Tao didn't seem to like the newly crowned King Charles II much: Only weeks after his father died the Dutch sent a delegation to the royal palace in Berlin with rather sinister motives: They let the king in no uncertain terms know that their military was far better equipped than theirs, and that it would just be a shame if something bad happened to their outpost of Frankfurt. They added that it would be oh so more lucrative to receive notes on famous German engineering and construction techniques for free rather than to have to see them from second hand on the field of battle. In the end however they didn't terribly mind either way, and thus asked the German crown for their opinion on this matter.

The royal court was fuming over this insult, but the king kept a cool head. The answer of his great grandfather Otto I to a similar demand made by the Russians was famous for its boldness, but he instead opted for a different approach. One enemy is plenty, and until now the Dutch and Germans have always had pleasant relations with each other, so there was no need to antagonize them. However the king had great incentive to put himself in their good graces, for they were also neighbors of Russia, and their loyalty would prove extremely valuable in a hypothetical war, even more so if they were able to construct siege engines. The King thus complied with the Dutch demand over the head of his advisors.

While this decision improved his foreign standing it made him extremely unpopular at home, and many, including his own court members behind his back, were calling him the worst king Germany has ever had. We will see if he will be vindicated by history. For now he had other things to worry about, like the recently founded Russian outpost of Yekaterinburg in the middle of the Ghuzz jungle between Frankfurt and England. People from as far away as Spain were intrigued by this curious decision by the newly established Russian monarchy, especially since this remote outpost was named after their Queen Catherine. Only time will tell if this settlement is going to be of any use.

The Spanish Court had heard of developing tensions between the Russian and German empires to the east. After the Dutch made fast friends with the Germans, Catherine thought it important to reach out for her own ally, sending an emissary to threaten the Spanish crown to cancel their open borders with Germany, in hopes of finding the Spanish allegiance:

Fortunately for the Germans, Queen Isabella has no loyalties to either the Russians or the Germans, both of whom are too far away from her empire for her to really care, and there would be minimal benefit to her to close borders with the Germans. Closing borders with the Germans would increase tensions between them, while saying no to Catherine's request would annoy her.

The Queen is content to keep her open borders agreement with the Germans, especially after the Russians have shown no thanks towards the Spanish for providing free marble to them for generations. The Queen dismissed the Russian emissary without a second thought and went back about her business.

Oh it is on! I'm basically only waiting for Feudalism so I can switch to Vassalage and Theocracy, then I'm gonna show her!

GPS to Nighthawk

Two French peasants met where the roads meet on the way to the new Palace Granary construction, one a young hearty farmer the other also a farmer but very much older, they both look each other over and the older slave asks, "so where are you going?"
To the Palace, how 'bout you?

The Palace, how many?

How many what the younger man asks, the older man says one maybe two lashes, the younger man pauses and realizes age is irrelevant when it comes to Slavery yet this old man gets half the lashes he does.

The younger man catches up and asks why, the older man answers with a question, "what kind of Farmer are you?'
He replies "I'm just a farmer" the older smiles and says "I'm a Corn Farmer.

Because I provide an extra benefit to France I am rewarded with less time strapped to the pole, oh and I get to keep my shirt on.

The younger man's eyes open wide, opens his mouth then says "man slavery sucks!"
It's all we'll ever know exclaimed the senior. They near the big doors of the Palace and the Jeeves the younger asks Jeb, hey do you think I can become a sailor?
Sure but why?

I'm going to sail to a New World where Slavery has never been used. Jeb says nothing and opens the door and enters.

Apparently asking Germany for handouts has become a popular pastime among our neighbors:

Since the English were nicely asking instead of boldly demanding like the Dutch some decades ago King Frederick IV wasn't risking his popularity by granting our neighbors their wish.

Indeed it was seen as a wise move both at home and abroad, for it strengthened the bonds of friendship between the German and English peoples, both united by their mutual hatred of their common enemy:

In retrospect the Russian establishment of an outpost between the lands of Germany and England achieved the opposite of its intended effect, for while it separated their bodies it only brought them that much closer together in their minds.

The German Crown also made it publicly known that it has a great surplus of sugar, and is willing to trade it in exchange for other types of goods.

OOC: Nighthawk, Rodrigo, you got anything you are willing to trade for Sugar?
