Writing in Gunpowder

I know this is frustrating to want to start right away but the end result is a week of trial and error is a very short time span in comparison to the time after it all works and we are playing,

None of us are impatient people, we play Civilization and patients is THE most important element of this game. am I right?

Welcome Qlockwork

It is great to have you. While we are setting up for this game I will send you some information regarding posting here, but I can see from your post you already have a good idea. But most importantly I'll send you an email explaining core concepts of BTS, I know you understand the basic structure having played the AC/AC version of Sid's game. All versions have their own nuances but the core concept remains the same, "maximize the yields of each city's land, after that its just deciding a path of technology

For the Record, I will treat you as an equal, and any outcome however it happens, happens on your own accord. I will not be hurt my feeling if your kingdom falls to another player and I will not be thrilled if you become a dominate world power. In this kind of game one thing can be said or believed but what really happens is another ball of wax entirely. Look at actual History, their have been sons who have distroyed their fathers empires and vise-versa. Here you are Qlockwork or rather who ever you've chosen as your leader.

I just want everyone to know this.

OH NO! We are just missing something, I know we've tried many things now but the SIMPLE FACT is that the 18 player game works, you've had fresh turns come at you from every direction to include starting with yourself, I'm puzzled!

There is an important note here though "You shouldn't fix something that isn't broke". I'm just saying this because something changed, did you update your video drivers". The turn you made and sent me was a LoR type not a BTS, so if the 18 player game is strickly vanilla and that is compatible with (just guessing) a European version but LoR is less compatible, just go completely Vanilla

This is what I don't understand - I launched a completely vanilla BTS game in "18" and both of you are in it and have done turns SINCE this issue happened without issue. Why all the sudden would a different game, same launcher, not work with standard vanilla BTS??? I am clueless at this point, I don't get it.

As for this, I agree, I am a patient person and will gladly wait to get this off the ground properly since it will run a few years anyway. I'd love to be able to figure out Knoedel's issue, but at this point I don't have any ideas left, I just can't understand why "18" seems to load and run without issue but this game can't.

Knoedel - did you delete the "Writing in Gunpowder" save folder?

As for Qlockwork joining the game, I fully expect the spirit of competition will rise up and whether its father/son or complete strangers, you both will want to win the game.

That being said I have no problem teaming up with Qlockwork to take down his dad!!!

Here is what I think
It is LoR that is messing it all up, the 18 player game was before the LoR subject came into play therefore that game is fine. (and Assets related to it)

all attempts in WiG to use LoR has failed, thats for sure.

attempts to run it Vanilla BTS has also failed, but there are a few unanswered elements, when the BTS turn was played or attempted had the LoR mod been previously ran?

If so residue from the mod still might be loaded. But only Imp can answer that, The game must be loaded fresh without a mod being loaded and all old sav files deleted. in addition (which may not apply because of a reinstall) CustomAssetsX should be deleted and the current "CustomAssets" should be renamed to CustomAssetsX.
This causes the game to look for asset files that had been previously created (that are failing) and creates a new set, But at this point you should delete the CustomAssetsX folder(s) and savs related to it, (after playing a new sav) loading old sav files will recreate bad assets.

Each turn carries its own Assets, that how it keeps track of all that has happened in a game. If today you tried LoR mod and then went to options and unloaded it, there is no way of knowing whether the vanilla BTS is clean. You must shut the game down completely to know for sure. everything is clean, but if you try and old sav that had previously failed you have just dump bad assets in your CustomAssets folder and you are back to square one.

Knoedel - I did some searching on your error. Look into the stuff below, specifically the "Assets Checker" file...

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=382240

Why do I get an error message about modified assets when I try to play a Civ4 game?
Civ4 GOTM start files are set up with "Locked Assets". This means the game will check all the key data files in your Civ4 installation when it loads the file. If any are different from the ones in the game designer's installation then it will fail to load.
Here are some things to check if you get this problem:

•Is your software patched to the correct version as stated in the game information?
•Do you have the correct version of the HoF Mod installed? Is it in the right place?
•If you do NOT have Beyond the Sword installed, have you replaced the Civ4 and/or Warlords CvGameCoreDLL.dll files?
•Have you installed any mods that change or edit basic files in your software? (eg Bhruic's Mod or CivScale)
•If all else fails, try installing and running the HoF Assets Checker. This should tell you which files do not match the required set.

According to the HoF Assets Checker there are 293 errors. >.< I say we try it with PBEM-Tracker and regular BtS.

Knoedel - the turn I sent you with the game I launched was regular BTS and I sent it through the tracker.

Did you read up on how to clear the errors?

@Knoedel

Ok youve checked errors and found some. Instead of fixing errors delete them.

If you go into your folders and find customassets, rename it to CustomAssetsBac (or anything)

play a pbem turn (BTS) unrelated to all these errors. And a NEW CustomAssets folder will be created. this should fix you. I just did it see pic

If at the end of the turn it asks to overwrite a save, you will get your errors back. This also includes any save related to the time period you started having problems (loading any old turn will dump errors in the new CustomAssets folder.

optional

EDIT: I also had to do this also to play the LOR game with Dick and Dogboy, it fixed my problem, I played the turn and sent it to Dogboy, the file was good for Dogboy and Dick but before I got my turn back I was bored and played an old save file. When the turn came to me it still had an error (but really it didn't, I just messed it all up again). I repeated the process and waited for a resend and problem solved.

I did exactly that several times now and it changed exactly nothing.

Heres a thought, when you un-installed and re-installed BTS, did you upgrade to v. 3.19?

Also, when you play the turn I sent you, are you opening with regular BTS or LOR? The application you use to start each one is different.

Other than that I don't know what to tell you. We have done searches, and are taking screenshots to help you and either its not working or you have given up. We are being more than patient trying to help, but if all of this isn't going to help theres not much else we can do. You need to try doing some searches and figuring it out on your own or else we will be forced to just launch the game without you. I don't think any of us want that, but we are running out of options here.

I have an idea, if you are willing, and the others agree, you could play like a special council.

You would not have real power, but have the respect of the world leaders to include you in a meeting you might have attended in those days.

:coffee::badcomp:..........:hmm::old::yup:

Just launch without me then and I will focus my writing on Gm18bnoE. I will follow the story and can act as a neutral negotiator in important meetings though, so just count on me if there is a major diplomatic conflict that needs to be settled.

No its not necessary, I just mentioned because you took the time to set it up. It could be used as a backup

Sent an Email out with a few last minute proposals in it

I'm not sure if Agressive AIs are right or wrong for this? I suggested just 3 AIs because of the Agressive aspect.

What I meant to say early on was to bump up the AI level but the option isn't there, again if we just use 3 AIs.

Otherwise 4 and 4 is still fine, I will however want to change the last AI to Catherine of Russia

I will launch after comments. Lets sit back relax and look at Beyond the Sword in a Grand Way, and have a Great Time, and Good Luck.

ps I will just add to my on going story, a ship wreck could have happened to any start :)

This message is to Imperator Knoedel - sorry you couldnt join. In addition to Eclipse's suggestion as a worldwide advisor (sort of like a super respected philosopher or something) you can still write stories using a character that is involved in all the nations. Since you aren't playing the game, I'm sure everyone will have no problems sharing intel with you and you can gain a grand worldwide view easily. Also with this info you can write international news stories from a different perspective, as well as take a narrator / overseer type of role. Missing the fun of the game will be sad, but your writing can still be appreciated, and will be, in this game!
