Wuss Rock

"Nu-metal" as a genre. Why? Because it's full to the brim with macho "puffing myself up to look big and tough and scary and edgy" posturing, yet musically as far as I'm concerned almost never has any real visceral bite.
Out of interest, is System Of a Down classified as nu-metal, and therefore wussy?

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, total wuss rock IMHO.
oh yeah. getting worse now. was passable earlier i guess.

I'd also nominate this modern rock bull**** like Turbonegro and White Stripes. Totally soulless garbage.

Bah! I'm offended! I haven't listened to Turbonegro but the White Stripes? Maybe you can call Seven Nation Army soulless, but I could give you a whole list of songs.

HINT: Don't listen to the singles if you want to hear the real character of a band. Get the CDs.

I wouldn't call their early material nu-metal as such, but their second album certainly seemed to me to be heading in that direction. Haven't heard much that they've done since then, so I can't really give an opinion on where they're at now.

Did I ever say I thought it was? :mischief:

Should we have more songs about how to make brownies, or maybe more like "Mother**** the police", or perhaps we can have more death metal, huh?

Just because someone writes songs about emotions doesn't mean they're a wuss. In fact, they're likely far more of a man than those people who shout down to them and call them wusses, and listen to heavily distorted metal crap about nothing at all.

LMFAO!! Nobody wants the music they like to be considered wuss rock. :p

Frank Zappa never wrote about his emotional baggage, and dude's got literally thousands of songs (and NONE of them, btw, say **** the police). Zappa was musical genius and anyone that disagrees is pretty much an uneducated doofus. :D

Death to cookie-cutter, corporate originated, WUSS rock! Most of today's music falls into this category. Sorry folks, doesn't make it right or wrong, just the way it is these days.

Thanks for the lecture on Frank Zappa. I happen to like him too.

He even did a song about Dental Floss.

I don't think "wuss rock" is actually a bad label. It might be for the insecure macho guys out there, but a lot of rock is written by sensitive guys using it as an outlet. That is just as valid as any other form of music, except it probably allows people to easily relate to it a little easier.

The people who shout down at "wuss rock" and the like need to grow up and be real men.

Steal this album has ruined Soad for me its just so meh.......

Evanescence is a funny example people who have ahted rock and anything to do with it love them weird no?

Linkin Park for me, well lets just say they have a genre all to themselves.
