WW2-Global

A brief battle report:

Playing as U.S. - Emperor difficulty
Equuileus's mod (the war triggers are cool!)

Late 1940:

In Europe, timely intervention by U.S. infantry and airpower (based in England, occupied Corsica, and carriers off the French coast) has prevented the complete fall of France. Bordeaux remains in French hands, while Brest was taken by U.S. forces shortly after its capture by the Germans. Marseille held out until mid-1940 but eventually fell to a massed armor formation. The American redoubt around Brest is relatively secure, and Britain's KGV's have prevented the KM surface fleet and U-boats from interfering with U.S. troop transports. The U.S. commander in the theatre would prefer to take temporary control of Bordeaux and the surrounding countryside to facilitate a U.S. armored thrust toward Lyon, but the French have refused and insist that American forces should concentrate first on liberating Paris. The French refuse to remain on the defensive and continue to throw away their meager armored forces in suicidal counterattacks against the various Axis-aligned forces roaming the countryside.

The recent entry of the Soviet Union into the war against the Axis (following it's unprovoked conquest of neutral Sweden), and the arrival of transports bearing the poorly-designed yet surprising effective M3 Lee/Grant tank, promise to greatly facilitate the planned breakout of U.S. forces. All U.S. forces in theatre will be dedicated to defeating Germany prior to taking on its Axis allies.

In the Pacific, all Japanese carriers appear to have been sunk, as well as all (or nearly all) of Japan's pre-war battleships. USN losses have been comparatively light, having lost only a few capital ships and more substantial numbers of destroyers and subs. The new Yamato C class of battleship has proven exceedingly effective against the U.S. Navy, but its lack of AA guns makes it vulnerable to bombers, especially if caught in port. Intel estimates that U.S. forces have destroyed 8-10 Yamatos, and 2-3 are currently at sea. The recent arrival of a squadron of Royal Navy KGV's should significantly lessen the threat posed by the disturbingly-efficient production of Yamatos.

On land, Japanese forces took Wake Island early in the war and razed it. U.S. forces kicked out the Japanese and established an airfield there several months later, after narrowly fending off a Japanese invasion of Midway. U.S. forces have gone on to capture all of Japan's outlying conquests, and are preparing to take Taiwan and to retake the Philippines (Davao remained in U.S. hands due to the timely recruitment of Filipino troops to supplement the U.S. garrison there). British troops from India (with the assistance of the Flying Tigers in China) have repulsed all attacks against Hong Kong, and several weeks ago the British knocked Thailand out of the war.

Quick update from the battlefront:

Playing as U.S. - Emperor difficulty
Equuileus's mod (with war triggers)
Late January 1941

U.S. forces in the Pacific have sunk 3 more Yamato C class battleships while they were in port at Okinawa and Kochi for repairs. The British KGV squadron of 8 battelships has yet to venture north beyond Davao, for now leaving the "Yamato-hunting" to the Americans. The U.S. amphibious landing to take Cebu was conducted with what turned out to be an insufficient force, as it was narrowly repelled by the Japanese. The 4 U.S. Army divisions which were en route to secure the area after capture will instead be directed to the invasion beaches, and with air and naval superiority the chances are excellent that Cebu will fall within the week. Numerous U.S. divisions are still several weeks away from landing near Manilla to take on the 4 Japanese tank divisions supporting their city garrisons.

In the ETO U.S. forces have ignored French pleas to attempt a drive toward Paris, and have instead moved forward with their original plan of committing 15 tank divisions and 20 infanty (including 3 airborne) divisions to retake Lyon, then drive south to link up with the planned Spring landings near Marseilles. Despite air superiority, the inability to receive supporting naval fire or air support from bases in Britain has led to heavy U.S. casualties. German defenders held out for two weeks, sufficiently bloodying U.S. forces so as to require postponement of the planned operation to retake Marseilles and provide support to the refugees of Toulouse (one of several atrocities committed by the Germans during the campaign, along with the cities of Cherbourg and Dunkirk).

More dramatic events have occurred on the Eastern and Southern Fronts. British forces have invaded southern Italy, taking Naples after a short campaign and razing an Italian city to the southeast. British amphibous landings to take Rome were repelled with severe losses. The British campaign to take and occupy Albania was also successful, but it is not known how strongly Britain intends to defend this gain. In the East, Red Army forces have pushed into the Slovakia, have rolled up German forces in eastern Poland, and are thrusting toward Vienna, Prague, and Warsaw. The Soviets have also successfully cut-off northern Finland from reinforcement, and in so doing have created a land corridor to their recent conquests in Sweden.

Africa is almost entirely under the control of French and British forces. Axis pockets of resistance are expected to surrender soon.

American naval movements in the North Atlantic to protect recently established airfields in Greenland and Iceland (thereby completing the "circle route" from the U.S. to the British Isles) appear to have prompted the KM to send out their remaining capital ships. American scout planes report that at least 6 Bismarck-class battleships have sailed north from Dutch and German ports to challenge allied forces in the North Sea. Two of these giants have seen significant prior action, and their elite crews are considered to be the finest in the German fleet. The Royal Navy is expected to take the lead in hunting down this massive force, with the U.S. Navy providing vital air support and reinforcement.

no problem for the double post:)

Do you have any pictures of current map positions? If you do, please send or even better, upload some ;)

I'll give it a try:

British invasion of Italy and Soviet invasion of Slovakia and Austria. On the next turn the British razed Rome

U.S. captured Lyon several weeks ago. Germany continues to draw Panzers away from the front to fight the Russians. On the next 2 turns, the U.S. landed 6 and 10 divisions, respectively, and destroyed the "wandering 88's" (sounds like a good name for a band, maybe). Forces then moved into place to begin the liberation of Marseilles.

Five of Germany's Bismarcks. The 6th is in the un-scouted area to the south. On the next 2 turns they turned back south to bombard London. U.S. air attacks on Bismarck #6 (which was by itself) were completely repulsed by landbased fighter cover and the ship's AA guns.

The Philippines and the failed invasion of Cebu (which fell easily on the next turn). British were also convoying forces to Cebu, so the U.S. had to act fast (the British had previously landed a stack of tank brigades that were unable to navigate the jungle :p ). 2 turns later U.S. landed 10 divisions (6 armored) on the coast east of Manilla, and launched airstrikes against the 4 Japanese armored units outside the city to weaken their ability to counterattack.
SP32-20070507-214511.jpg

USN blockade of Japan consists of 6 carriers (4 original and 2 newly-built) divided into 3 battlegroups with heavy escorts (3 in center fleet, 2 in the north, one in the south). On the next 2 turns a Yamato was intercepted coming around Kochi, and was forced back to port for repairs. Follow-up airstikes stripped the area of its remaining fighter cover and inflicted moderate damage on the ship. The southern fleet sailed south to supplement the land-based air support already in place for the invasion of Manilla.

I'll try to remember to get a shot of the Maginot Line next time I play. The French still have a lot of fortress divisions there, along with some artillery and a few infantry divisions.

"wandering 88's" (sounds like a good name for a band, maybe)
 , good name!
I can already see the motion picture with the same name... Tom Hanks is Obersturmfuhrer :crazyeye:

and  thanks for all the pictures, looks real nice :)

Keep on posting, you rock! :goodjob:

I followed the link at the beginning of the thread and went to 3D downloads and tried to download this scenario. It beeped at me and did nothing. I removed my popup and cookie blockers and it did the same (it also showed it as version 1.4 and i think the latest is 2.4). In any event, can anyone help me find a way to download this scenario? Thanks.

Kelly Whiting,

1.4 is the current version of the 134 MB folder.
2.4 refers to the biq-file.

I can not explain why its not possible for you to download from 3D.
Hopefully some of the posters in this thread can help you.

I've never seen this before ... didn't know it was possible.

SP32-20070509-220141.jpg

I might try doing this next time I capture an enemy airfield.

Also of note is the obvious ... the Soviets have broken through and have pretty much wiped out Italy. I might try to swing around with a few divisions and take the last "mainland" Italian city away from them if they severly weaken it. I might let them take Palermo (Sicily) too just to see if it encourages the Soviets to build up their navy in the Med. I'm thinking this game might end up being the Allies vs. the Soviets for control of the defeated Reich. How cool would that be?

Hello Fellow Civ III nuts - LOOONNNGGG time player, first time poster. Finally had to say something to express my gratiitude to all who work at this for free that I derive so much enjoyment from.

Rocoteh - GREAT work as a base, I hope your personal issues from earlier did not cause you too much grief. This is the best mod out there imo and I have played MANY of them.

I have probably played this mod 6 different times, most of the time as different civs and always enjoyed it. And it just keeps getting better!

Equeluus, great "semi mod" I am in the middle of playing as Germany (Deity) right now and it is very challenging! week 9 1942 and the CW has their Comets in action already --- I just got my PzGs...

Others, keep up the commentaries and reports, they are always entertaining!

what happened next turn?!

Haven't had the chance to play since then.

Has anyone else ever had the situation shown in my screenshot above? (i.e., units of 2 different countries occupying the same square) Or is this just a known bug that I didn't know about?
