A brief battle report:
Playing as U.S. - Emperor difficulty
Equuileus's mod (the war triggers are cool!)
Late 1940:
In Europe, timely intervention by U.S. infantry and airpower (based in England, occupied Corsica, and carriers off the French coast) has prevented the complete fall of France. Bordeaux remains in French hands, while Brest was taken by U.S. forces shortly after its capture by the Germans. Marseille held out until mid-1940 but eventually fell to a massed armor formation. The American redoubt around Brest is relatively secure, and Britain's KGV's have prevented the KM surface fleet and U-boats from interfering with U.S. troop transports. The U.S. commander in the theatre would prefer to take temporary control of Bordeaux and the surrounding countryside to facilitate a U.S. armored thrust toward Lyon, but the French have refused and insist that American forces should concentrate first on liberating Paris. The French refuse to remain on the defensive and continue to throw away their meager armored forces in suicidal counterattacks against the various Axis-aligned forces roaming the countryside.
The recent entry of the Soviet Union into the war against the Axis (following it's unprovoked conquest of neutral Sweden), and the arrival of transports bearing the poorly-designed yet surprising effective M3 Lee/Grant tank, promise to greatly facilitate the planned breakout of U.S. forces. All U.S. forces in theatre will be dedicated to defeating Germany prior to taking on its Axis allies.
In the Pacific, all Japanese carriers appear to have been sunk, as well as all (or nearly all) of Japan's pre-war battleships. USN losses have been comparatively light, having lost only a few capital ships and more substantial numbers of destroyers and subs. The new Yamato C class of battleship has proven exceedingly effective against the U.S. Navy, but its lack of AA guns makes it vulnerable to bombers, especially if caught in port. Intel estimates that U.S. forces have destroyed 8-10 Yamatos, and 2-3 are currently at sea. The recent arrival of a squadron of Royal Navy KGV's should significantly lessen the threat posed by the disturbingly-efficient production of Yamatos.
On land, Japanese forces took Wake Island early in the war and razed it. U.S. forces kicked out the Japanese and established an airfield there several months later, after narrowly fending off a Japanese invasion of Midway. U.S. forces have gone on to capture all of Japan's outlying conquests, and are preparing to take Taiwan and to retake the Philippines (Davao remained in U.S. hands due to the timely recruitment of Filipino troops to supplement the U.S. garrison there). British troops from India (with the assistance of the Flying Tigers in China) have repulsed all attacks against Hong Kong, and several weeks ago the British knocked Thailand out of the war.
