WWI Scenario

I am not sure if this scenario works yet with the new patch. My game crashed and I just got things straightened out for the most part. I reinstalled my SDK and I will look into it soon. In the meantime, I am testing singleplayer mode, to see if I come across more issues/crashes etc. After things get worked out with this new patch, I'll get back to playing this and working on the next scenario. Which will be a larger version of this one.

This may need an update. If anyone plays it on the new patch let me know how things go. Make sure you start a brand new game, not a savegame, just in case. Savegames may have some headaches you don't need.

I can't make it work. It loads the 4 mods (map, mod, end in 1918, infoaddict) but the map doesn't show up, even on advanced selection. I put the Map.civ5mod on the maps folder under Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/Maps, but it doesn't seem to recongnize it. I also put the Map.civ5mod on the MODS folder, under Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/MODS, just in case. Damn, I really wanted to play this and it seems so cool! I'm really interested in the WW1, and was dying to play as Russia :(

Hold on let me download it and try it.

Ok, extract zip file to C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS

Then choose...extract files here.

Ok, now you have to go in game and enable the mods. All four have to have a checkmark.

Then back out of the game and move the map to the maps folder. Copy and paste it.

Hold on. I just downloaded it, let me test it again to make sure.

Alright I use DX10/11. I loaded game/enabled mods...

Now I back out of the game and opened the WWIMapV2 (v 1) folder. Then I copy and paste the WWIMapV2 map here...C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Maps.

Go back in game. and go to mods (make sure mods are enabled with a check mark)/single player/setup game/advanced setup/Map Type/find WWIMapV25/choose back/load secenario highlight circle and click/choose civ and difficulty/start game. Loaded beautifully.

I had no issues whatsoever. Try these steps and check again. You must not be doing something correctly.

I see what you did from you're explanation. You put the wrong file in the maps folder.

You put this one in the maps folder WWIMapV2 (v 1) MODINFO File, size 2 KB. Either that or you put the whole map mod folder there. You should leave that file in the mods folder.

Now...Open the WWIMapV2 (v 1) mod folder. Then inside that folder, copy and paste the WWIMapV2 Civilization V Map the file size should be 148 KB, and add it to the maps folder. Now you should be fine.

Here is the map file that needs to go inside the maps folder, just in case. Extract or copy and paste it to C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Maps

Have fun! Playing as Russia is fun, you start at war with the Ottoman Empire. :)

Ahhh, I see! It seems weird to put a civ5mod into the maps folder, though. The reason is I couldn't find the civ5map file when I downloaded the mod. Thanks for your help Nokmirt, it should work now! :)

UPDATE: Working fine here. About Russia, which strategy do you think is good for them? To keep warring against the Ottomans, to DOW Germany and get Koningsberg, do both or wait until getting WWI Infantry? I decided to make peace with the Ottomans and push up agains the Germans, got Koningberg. BTW, how do you win the scenario? I'm still not sure :P

What I did in my game was make peace with the Ottomans. Then I built up my empire and so on. I had just begun building aircraft, had GW infantry, and artillery. Then I went after the Ottomans again. I slowly took Anatolia and from Europe pushed south from my CS allies Bucharest and Sofia. Finally, I took Istanbul. Although, I played it with an older version where I had plenty of cash to buy off CSs.
Now I have changed that reducing money etc.

At the moment I am playing a game as Austria-Hungary, in which I am colonizing North Africa. I have the Italians quite perturbed. The last time I played, I saw this Italian settler heading for North Africa. So I opened diplomacy with their leader Vittiorio and told him not to settle near me. The next turn their settler diembarked on the crappy one hex tile of Malta.

Win a victory either from Domination or by having the most Victory Points by the end of 360 turns. It is a simple scenario, but I have a blast playing it. I am working on a newer larger one. A pic of the map is in a previous post on this thread. Let's see here it is post #40 http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=11953133&postcount=40

I have chopped it down to size made a few adjustments to the heel of Italy, and western North Africa. Then I started to add rivers and mountain ranges. I am going to work on it little by little. Also, I am waiting for some new units to be created. Namely WWI infantry, which really would dress up this scenario in a huge way. The new version will be on a separate thread, because many people like smaller maps. So this version will remain, and I feel it should anyway. The new map is large size.

You have fun and please let me know if you have any more problems.

Nice backstab by Russia. They came to me a few turns ago and asked for a DoF. I excepted, because I was planning to take on Germany, when I built up more. So, Nicholas comes back in 3 turns and DoWs me. So far I have counted 8 riflemen, 4 cossacks, and 1 cannon. Pretty typical, a large clumsy Russian army. Ready to repel, I have 1 artillery in Prague, 1 rifle outside the city, and a gatling gun who will protect the flank of the rifle. On the way there I have another rifle and another gatling gun. This guy really caught me off guard.

Most of my efforts have been in colonizing North Africa. I am going to send a rifle back from there to help protect the homeland. I did have some money, but spent a lot of it trying to make sure Italy did not grab certain useful tiles from their city of Cumae (Malta).

I opened up a thread to get information for my new World War One scenario in the World History forum. It is one of the outlets, I like to use to find out about things that are hard to find out, about history. Some of those guys have pretty substantial libraries. So, if any of you want to discuss or know anything that may help me design this scenario, feel free to post. At the moment I have asked about Spain in 1892, but any info will be in valuable.

The thread is here. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=11981711#post11981711

Hi, Fyodor here, Greetings all. I'm new to these forums and this mod looks right up my alley. However I'm unable to find or enable the actual scenario as opposed to the base map. When I load the scenario as per the installation instructions (which I have followed consistently) I just get the fourteen players on a blank European map in 4000 B.C (with stoneage techs); any help would be very much appreciated.

Follow posts #43 and 44. They should get you on track.

In the advanced game setup you have to choose the map. Then back out and you'll see a load scenario with a circle beside it click that. Then choose your civ, difficulty, and start the game.

When when more new units become available, I'll update this again. I am going to hold off on the larger mod for a bit, until I know whether they are adding anymore DLCs, or a second expansion.

Hi,

Iv'e done precicely as specified and still no scenario, the 'load scenario' option attached to the map doesn't seem to do anything; I'm at a loss to see what I'm doing wrong, as I understand it the 4 files within the 'WWI Strength of Willsv2.5 Updated' download are all that's required - I put these in the MODS section and ticked them in the in-game menu (I have of course put the actual map file in the maps folder, and loaded it in advanced setup) - Am I missing something ? Some crucial download or step I'm not aware of ? Maybe one not in this thread ?

It may be because of the patch or hotfix. Not sure when I will have time, but I will look into when I can. If it is not that it has to be the hotfix, because it sounds like you have done evrything correctly. I know it was working after the patch, because I was playing it. Which leads me to believe it has to be the hotfix that screwed things up. So, I may have to let this scenario go by the wayside. After I figure out when all upcoming new content has been added to the game. Then I will finish my much larger scenario. Otherwise it is a real pain to try to keep things updated with steam. It was much easier in the days of CiIV where you could choose which patch to use.

If anyone has tried this and it works after the hotfix let me know.

Make sure you back out of the advanced setup screen, after you choose the map, and click where it says 'load scenario'.

Alright, I played for awhile after I applied the hotfix to my game. It played beautifully, no glitches at all. One thing I noticed was that Italy was building a Fokker DR1 instead of an Ansaldo. I fixed that and posted an update. Have fun everyone, and thanks for trying this scenario out. :)

P.S. In the unit graphics thread there are some new Arabian rifleman units. When some more WWI units are added I will reupdate this again.

Yeah I did that, who knows, maybe it's specific to me; I've always had problems with SDK for instance (I dont' think this should specifically affect it but I guess it could be a directory problem of some sort); and of course I agree with you about Steam - whenever they try to simplify such things it seems to ultimately make them more complicated. Thanks anyway for your responses.

Look at this post. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=11976968&postcount=44 Did you put the exact map file I posted, in the maps folder? Because if you didn't it won't work. If you did and it doesn't work. I am not sure, because it sounds like you have followed all the steps properly. In the meantime try some of the other scenarios and see if they load properly. Maybe mine is just a lame duck. I am new to modding so I wouldn't doubt it. Realistically though, it has to be something simple that has been overlooked. :)

Not to worry at some point when they add all the new content to the game, 2nd expansion, DLCs, patches, and get the bugs out. When all that is done, I will finish my much larger mod.

I briefly tried this out for the first time and it seems great! There are a few "convenience" tweaks that I can think of, but it seems great overall.

It would be nice if you only had to enable 2 mods (a WWI scenario mod and InfoAddict mod) rather than 4. Also, when choosing your civ, it would be nice if the scenario leader name was shown rather than the regular civ name. Just some things that would tidy up this mod a bit.
