www.civ3.com is up and open for business

Just visited civ3.com

Downloaded the screensaver : Have they (AI) learned nothing ? Same strategy :

1. Build unit
2. Send unit to the front
3. Unit gets killed

Not to pleased about omission of Spanish : Spanish empire lasted for centuries, French only about a decade (Napoleon), German about five years (not thousand, herr Hitler)

Can't wait to play it though !

hi

im a bit pissed off that the yankies are in it, i mean i know u have to design a game so it will sell big in the big market but, dont the yankies kinda count as Ex-british empire ??

oh yeah does anybody know what the special units for each civ are ??

i know Zulu- impi
babylonian bow man
yankie F-15

are there any others ?? an (english) British Redcoat better be in there or there will be some severe sulking on my behalf.

Also maybe a German nazi paratrooper (would be kinda cool huh)

well cheers

That unit in Washington is a warrior, but he managed to kill a horseman, an archer, and a musketeer! How can that be? Maybe the screensaver programed the warrior to win everytime?

Just watched the creen saver. I too also hope that was made to demonstrate the animations etc. and does not reflect the AI.

I think I read on their new site about combat formations or something about improved combat. At the time it sounded like they had added more challenge to the AI approach of warfare.

We'll know in a couple months.

I see from the update that Iroquois are going to be expansionist and religious, meaning that if civ specific units/abilities is on that they will get Pottery and Ceremonial Burial free and get a free scout at start and better huts and no anarchy between governments and religious buildings will cost less.

This should make for an interesting stategy. I will build temples right off to expand my borders and acquire resources that my scout finds.

Well...lets see the English CIV! I´m gonna get a man-of-war! WOOT! I´m going to get a man-of-war WOOT! I´m going to get a man-of-war WOOT! I´m going to get a man-of-war WOOT!

My favorite A.I civ (and to be honest playing civ...the English) is commercial and expansionist! I´m so happy!

Today was great...IT WAS smooth with a capital SMOO! Everything has gone right, the geologising, the shoppising, the womanising and now the civising!

Cya later with constructive comments upon what I have seen!

Sioux? Yes, the Iroquois are cooler. Spanish? Yes. Just another European for me to slice up anyway. Vikings? Well, they DID discover that big island out there, North America or something

Celts? A personal favorite, but OK. They weren't that important in the grand scheme of things....Carthaginians? Ditto. Scrapped with Rome, sat around, not a big deal. MONGOLS????WTH??? If you're talking about tribes that DEFINED history here's a prime example. That's BS as far as I'm concerned.

hey, there's a screenshot on the third page of a castle! figure that they are going back to the castle building as the visual 'reward' for progressing through the game, like in civ1?

i love that part of civilization! sure it doesn't help you win the game or anything, but it's cool! wonder if there will be different castle types for each civ...?

I sure hope so! But then agin it might just be a wonder

Don't get me wrong, I'm still REALLY looking forward to Civ3, and I love the site, but...

Anyone else notice that the first screenshot in the screenshot gallery, the one of what appears to be the opening screen, it doesn't have Multiplayer as one of the options.

Maybe it's hidden under New Game or Quick Start, but I'd really like to know where it is, seeing as playing against human opponents is much more interesting, from my point of view, then mopping up computer civs, even after they cheat.

Can anyone set my mind at ease on this issue? Other than that, I'm bouncing up and down in my chair in anticipation of the release.

The mongols are hopefully some VERY nasty barbarian event that strikes a large continent devoid of civilisation...now that would rock!

The spainish...well, they looted and pillaged and then built the 3rd world b4 almost joining it! Lord Richard Grenville is what I say to them...

Who do yall think next weeks civ of the week is gonna be? I bet Greek!

Checkout this link for all the Civ3 multiplayer info we know so far. It's not much info but at least Jeff Morris said timed games and simultaneous moves will be part of multiplayer...

Thank God for this! At least that is solved. For the rest of the site: my first ICQ messaaage to TF was "Oh my God what an enormous amount of Civ3-information! I can't cope with it...". Now that it's two days later, I think the fever is a bit gone now.

Anyways, I'm making agreements with other Dutchmen to pre-order Civ3 Lim.Ed. so that the shipping costs will be minimized. I was already sold and now even more.

I was a bit cautious with my opinion about the special abilities of the civs, but I can see now that everything will work out fine. The differences aren't too big and actually kind of funny as well. Still I'm satisfied that these special things can be turned off.

About the screensaver: I think that warrior in Washington is Arnold Schwarzenegger (alias Conan the Barbarian

See, it's Civ Hallooween this time of year, and a Marine has dressed up as a Warrior!

Further to the screensaver, the Samurai's attack looks great

Thunderfall:

Thanks for the link, but I'd read that too. Knowing there isn't more out there isn't exactly comforting. I just remember getting Civ2, then finding out that to play multiplayer I was going to have to buy another copy of the game in a Gold box. Dang it.

With the latest info being "we're not ready to discuss it" and no mention of multiplayer in current screenshots, I worry that my Civ2 problem will happen again.

I did put in a question with the "Ask the Developers" at the Civ3 website. If anyone else has this same question, you can send it to them at askthecivteam@firaxis.com . I figure the more times they get asked the same question, the more likely they are to answer it. (since they can't answer all of them)

Anyway, thanks for the help, Thunderfall. If anyone else hears more about this, please put it in the forums for the rest of us!
