Up until Win 7, my best experience of a Microsoft OS has been with ME and that includes over 98, XP, Vista. From what I've heard I must be the only one with a trouble free ME experience and I only upgraded to XP when I could no longer get new software to run, then I found the old stuff ran worse than ever and I have all sorts of problems with that PC. But that's just me. Now, a new PC and W7 x64 is far better. Our individual opinion is all coloured by our individual experience.
I had no problems with ME, have some friends still running it
they just refuse to upgrade and because I built them some decent systems that just keep going and going
Those Tyan boards I used back them and the custom cases I set them up with
have excellent cooling and the dang things just won't quit
they'll upgrade when it becomes necessary
they have some older programs they just won't give up and they still get their email
and usually use Eudora and refuse any kind of email attachments unless they know te sender
Some don't even use an antivirus....and use a free firewall...
I wouldn't do it....but hey...they say they're happy....so I leave them be
Had one that went in to look at a Win 7 system just to see if they might like it
left the saleman there shaking his head.....
Norton had one release of its software that nuked ME....blue screen of death
which was back around either 2000 or '03 I believe
XP was and is great....XP 64 pro...love it
bottom line is if you have something you're happy with
why change until it's necessary
for me....one game wasn't worth changing to something I already know I despise.
So for me....it's simple....If I can make the game work on what have....great
If not I pass on the game because otherwise, I'm quite happy.
Looks like I'll be able to lay both Civ II and IV without issues
and that was all I cared about
I don't doubt Win 7 64 pro has probably got the bugs worked out of it by now
since the issues came up shortly after it was first released
I just don't like the OS....I hate it....they tried to make it idiot proof , imo
and that's just not what I want in an OS
thanks for the reply.....
