For the diplo screen, I got an interior and exterior shot of the Knesset. Chose whichever one you prefer.
SpoilerLibya :
I can't seem to find any info on any current government buildings for Libya right now, other than that the congress has been held inside a hotel. Most of the buildings in use under Gaddafi have been destroyed, vandalized, or at the very least vacated. So, I went with Martyr's Square in Tripoli, the site of a couple important rallies and protests.
Would you be interested in civilization icons that look like Firaxis's instead of those flags, so the civs feel more in line with the rest of the game? I could easily make those for all civs if you're interested.
On that note, I also recommend changing some of the civilization colors so that they are more readable, accurate or just look more pleasant.
Yes, I'd like civ icons, especially to set games in older eras and it would be great for the larger picture and my other projects around YnAMP.
Custom colors would be great (currently they are all based on civ6 player colors), but I won't have time* to make them. I could use help again if some of you want to prepare them in xml format.
* I'm currently converting, mixing and testing some of my civ5 mods
Great project, am from Argentina so can help with it
I think when you speak about Argentina you think about countryside, farms & cows, so I uploaded some related images with usual scenarios to be seen here:
Some relevant leaders from the nation are Jose de San Martin (military leader, liberated the country & other south american nations from Spain kingdom), Juan Manuel de Rosas (military leader, defended against England, France & Spain siege), Julio Roca (military leader, conquered contryside against native tribes), Juan Bautista Alberdi (political leader, primary founder of the national constitution -influenced with American liberal policies).
Please do not use Juan or Eva Peron, or Pope Francis, they are populist leaders which are not liked by all Argentinians
Possible bonuses:
-unique tile improvement Hacienda (replacing Farm), Argentina is known for its excellent soil to grow several crops
-unique tile improvement or building Pulperia (being a large flat country, this kind of drugstore/markets were lonely buildings along the country which had anything you need to supply yourself, from food to weapons)
-unique unit Gaucho (replacing Cavalry), many gauchos lived and wandered in countryside, taking care with great skill of farms and also were used to fight battles against native tribes using their knowledge of terrain, horsemanship & fierceness
-unique unit Granadero (replacing Cavalry), this is the best formal military unit Argentina ever had, helping the country independence
-civ ability ease to settle (or easy access to fresh water), Argentina is a country with lots of rivers therefore easy access to fresh water, planting crops and cattle raising (cows)
-civ ability welfare state, this is a characteristic from 1950s and later, due to the large amount of taxes we suffer, Argentina is an attractive country to all southamericans as it has a pretty good healthcare and education system being covered by the government
That's all what i got , I can help if needed, let me know
And I extended Taiwan's city list to 20, considering it seems that countries won't be confined to the space they usually take up. It'll also give them more cities for non-YnAMP maps.
By the way, I was wondering- would it be preferable if every city list was extended to about 20, like I did for Taiwan? For many of them it wouldn't be too much of a bother.
By the way, I was wondering- would it be preferable if every city list was extended to about 20, like I did for Taiwan? For many of them it wouldn't be too much of a bother.
Anyways, I figured now would be a good time to begin to deliberate which countries would be best to add. To aid with the process, I devised a completely non-scientific method in order to give a better idea of which nations are most deserving.
I picked 4 categories: Population, Total Area, GDP, and Global Firepower (measure of military might), and found the top 15 countries in each category that were not already included. The best out of those 15 in each category would receive 15 points, the next best 14, then 13, so on and so forth until the 15th receives 1 point. Then the points are tallied. Obviously this is a flawed method but the results are nevertheless interesting and are worth consideration.
The results are:
1. Nigeria, with 40 Points
2. Pakistan, with 38 Points
3. Peru, with 27 Points
T4. Venezuela, with 25 Points
T4. Switzerland, with 25 Points
6. Denmark, with 24 Points
T7. Myanmar, with 23 Points
T7. Malaysia with 23 Points
9. Philippines, with 22 Points
10. Tanzania, with 18 Points
The Czech Republic, Bangladesh, Belgium, Austria, and the UAE rounded up the top 15.
In my opinion, Nigeria and Pakistan are complete shoo-ins. For the rest of them, regional needs should also be considered, as the system I used does not consider them.
In Europe, the civilizations that are currently in the mod take up most of the space already. Somewhere like Switzerland could get boxed in really quickly. In my opinion, Denmark is the best civ to add to the current roster in the event of a scenario being made considering it controls the Faroe islands and Greenland.
I should also note that, while there is a limit to the amount of civs that can appear in one game, as far as I am aware there is no limit to the amount of civs that a mod can add. So, multiple European civs could technically be added for maps like Play Europe Again for a modern European game that doesn't include civs from other continents.
Analysis of individual regions might also prove useful, as it could help narrow the options down in particular regions. For example, I did an analysis of Africa, using the same methodology as before (but only the top 10 in each category got points as opposed to the top 15), and here's what I got:
T1. Nigeria (34 Points)
T1. Sudan (34 Points)
3. Angola (27 Points)
4. Kenya (22 Points)
5. Tanzania (21 Points)
That makes things much clearer. Including Nigeria, Sudan and Angola would go a long way to fill Africa up. Let me know what you think, and I could do the same thing for other regions of the world to decide which countries are most worthy.
And since I noticed that loading screens are shifting from the seat of power to sceneries of the country, I've cut 3 views of Rome, that can be pretty "era-less" since they can be good from Medieval era/Renaissance onwards.
We have 12 slots left until the limit of civilizations in a game is reached (but yes, we can still add more after that), so we can work on the list proposed by Mobfire
I totally agree with Nigeria and Pakistan, those are the next civs to add.
For Africa, Tanzania and Angola may leave more space around Ethiopia than Sudan and Kenya, what do you think ?
For information, once we have 62 civs, I'd like to start addons, like one or two small mods that would change some of the civilization to CS (keeping the flag and city list) for example one mod which set 40 civs and 22 CS or one with 20 civs and 42 CS.
But my priority is to work on the assets editor to provide icons and screens for the setup menu, that's mandatory for a public release.
I don't know how the map looks like to you guys, but I filled in a map to get an idea of where everything is and I would like to give my suggestion for the next 10 civs and why (It was already mentioned that Pakistan and Nigeria are a given so I won't include those)
I would suggest including
1. Peru
2. Philippines
3. Denmark
4. Venezuela
5. Malaysia
6. Tanzania
7. Angola
8. Romania
9. A Unified Baltic State
10. A Unified Balkan State
This is based entirely off my personal opinion when looking at a map at what areas are not covered by the world. Peru and Venezuela are relatively important countries in South America and help fill up some space so its not just 3 countries. In my opinion the Philippines and Malaysia are far too important to Southeast Asia not to be included. Malaysia being one of the more developed and well known countries in southeast asia (More so than Burma) and the Philippines being... well... the Philippines. I think Tanzania and Angola should be the two new African Countries. Mostly because there is already a lot of countries in Northern Africa but only really two (or three if you count Congo) in Southern Africa. And lastly I think three important places not yet covered in Europe are Romania, the Baltics, and the Balkans. The latter two I think you can take advantage of unifying the various small states to make one that represents the region. The Balkans looking Yugoslavian ish (Although I don't imagine they would be happy together lol) and the Baltics pretty much already being like one country in a lot of ways. Romania is not the richest. But it is large and fills a big gap in an area of importance. Denmark is important simply because of Greenland (Like mentioned above) Hopefully my opinion was of some use!
Xefjord, your proposal for unified states brings up an interesting point. Let's say for the sake of argument that an Earth 2017 scenario is made- how would smaller countries be represented?
One option is to have their territory be annexed by their closest viable neighbor. For example, in SE Asia Thailand would control Cambodia and Vietnam would control Laos, or in Africa, Nigeria could control Benin, Togo, and Ghana.
Another option is to have a "League of Nations" civ or CS civ that controls all territory not owned by other countries (city states can control multiple cities, right?)
The territory could be left open, but it would be weird to be settling cities in a modern scenario
We could have playable civs that represent regions or alliances like Xefjord proposes, but representing the rest of the world (this would be a little historically inaccurate though)
We could lower the amount of playable civs and increase the amount of city states. There'd be about 10 city states each representing a region of the world not represented by the playable civs. That way you could invade one region without automatically declaring war on the rest of the smaller nations.
I know we don't have to make a decision at this instant, but it would be nice to know while we consider our options. Personally, I would go with the first or the last options, which would be best for gameplay in my opinion. Heck, if Gedemon is already thinking about a less civs more city states version of the mod maybe even both could happen.
In the meantime, here's what I would do for the remaining 10 slots.
1. Denmark, for reasons previously explained. Perhaps in the version where territory is not pre-settled for you, another civ could appear in its place.
2. Malaysia
3. Philippines
4. Uzbekistan (Top-ranked civ in central Asia, would help fill out an empty region)
5. Peru
6. Venezuela
7. Angola
8. Sudan
9. Tanzania
10. Myanmar
Also, at least in 2017 Earth-like scenarios (where cities are pre-settled), Iceland could be omitted in favor of another civ such as Chile, Romania, or Kenya. While it occupies a convenient location in terms of geographic balance Iceland is by no means a world power.
Anyways, those are just my tentative suggestions at how to best fill out the map, and I think further discussion is necessary before anything is set in stone.
Well for the balkans you could pretty much just use Serbia and have it cover all of Yugoslavia's former territory is what I was thinking for a unified balkan state. I am not sure what country would fit for the baltics though. I am fine with most of the ideas you suggested, but a "league of nations" civ sounds rather unattractive to me. I can agree with most of Mobfire's picks. Although I do keep finding Myanmar kind of odd as a pick lol. In Civ 5's Earth 2014 mod. Thailand controlled all of Myanmar's area, and Myanmar (And Iceland honestly) are far less important in the world than countries like Romania and Chile IMO.
Another thing, and maybe this is off topic because I know we aren't really talking about scenarios yet. But I think having the additional function of being able to capture individual tiles with troops (Much like you could in RED's WW2 mod) for a Earth mod is also important. In Earth 2014 I may have wanted to take a tiny bit of territory (especially as there may be areas of just vast territory with no cities near by) but I would have to invade a city to take all of it at once. AI was also an issue in Civ 5's Earth map. But I think it will probably be less of an issue with Civ 6.
Myanmar comes ahead of Romania, Chile, and Kenya (other top candidates for a 10th slot) in terms of population. In terms of global firepower, it is 33rd in the world, which makes it the 3rd best military not already included (behind Pakistan and the Czech Republic). It beats Romania and Kenya but is just behind Chile in terms of area. However, it lags in GDP, where it comes 72nd in the world compared to Chile's 45th, Romania's 51st, and Kenya's 70th. The case for Myanmar is not perfect but it's there.
I think it does ultimately come down to whether a potential scenario has countries annexing smaller neighbors or not. Because if it does, Romania would probably make the most sense in order to keep Eastern Europe annexations from becoming too unrealistic and stretched. If it doesn't, and smaller countries are represented by city state collectives, then I think Myanmar has a better case for inclusion.
But I'm all down for Chile coming over Iceland - maybe not in YnAMP games where everything is self-settled, but definitely in games where cities are pre-settled.
If we are setting priorities with already existing civs (like Iceland) Whatever you do, you must keep ROC on the map though. So we can create the near impossible challenge of retaking the Mainland as the Republic of China. Like Civ 5's modern earth true Korea scenario on steroids. Lol
