Do you have a funny/favorite name(s) you use for your cities?

Sometimes I change the names of cities to stupid things like Cow by the Land o' Lakes or Destruction Valley or Slid in Safe or Spice Alley. I used to have names for cities like Forest Town but then I chopped down the forests so I don't use this name anymore.

I always find it's a good idea to name my capitol city after my girlfriend. She likes that. It's also helpful to remind me (as I cycle through my cities) to stop and spend some quality time with her before I go back and cut a deal with the Ottomans and give the Babylonians a beat down.

Do you have a favorite?

ummm i sometimes rename the first foothold city on a continent "amityville" (after the eminem song natch :) )

and renaming that city "We suck" when im on the verge of losing it!

I sometimes call a far flung island city "port royal" it was on the film "captain blood" i think, sounds very colonyish!

Also if something else is far away, i call it "farpoint" simply cos im a star trek nerd :scan: hehe

In Ank11, we have more cities than we can count, so almost all of them are named. Most of mine are a word of a song I'm listening to, with a bit of a twist. Some of mines are like "Sakuraton", "Tomoyoton", "Harukaton", etc.

"Edirne".

TLC, how do you get an image of absolutely nothing?

What are you two talking about? I don't get it? Did I do something stupid here? I was trying to add some levity I guess.

As you may notice, TLC's first post was exactly nine characters... The minimum is ten.

I always use default names unless it's a city I want to flag for some reason. Last time I invade an enemy continent it was held strongly so I built a city right where I landed called "Omaha Beach" and rushed a barracks there immediately. It was kind of cool seeing Japanese forces storm ashore at Omaha :)

After reading a few of the stories in the war academy, I sometimes name cities based on an important resource nearby: Iron Berg or Uraniumville, etc.

The general idea is that any city with a custom name requires special attention.

Sometimes I also like to use country/region names instead of cities or in addition to major cities when playing on an earth map. Depends on the scale of the game though. For example playing as the Russians, city names might be:

Moscow
Ukraine
White Russia
Caucasus
West Siberia
East Siberia
Volga River Basin
Kazakstan

etc.

@ Tomoyo. I didn't know that.
@ Raj- I do that too...hence cow by the land o lakes. I started to rename cities when I read some of Zerksees come from behind victories. I especially liked Barbie Town (or close to this) made up by his daughter!!!

I tend to not rename cities other than to move them to the top of the Goto box (AAMoscow anyone? :)).. but I do rename elite units post army creation in what is sometimes a slightly humorous way. Most of the time it's just "Big xxx" wher xxx is a shortening of the unit type. Big Cal, Big Tank, Big Arc.. which results in a slightly humorous name for Horsemen.

Quard , Izu , Suall , Brooksenberg , Gisfred , Korroy , Hippysberg , Happy Island , Neverland , Disneyland , and Poppy. Some of the names I use.

I like to rename elites too...usually General WHOMP A** to start then Magilla the Killah.
I like Neverland and Happy island!

I always keep my world atlas near me when playing, and rename so I don't see "New Beijing", etc. This is the main reason I rarely play dead nations like the Hittites or Mayans.

So do I, too. It's a pity they didn't provide at least 64 names per civ. These might have been difficult to find for some long destroyed civs that didn't leave much remnants (like Sumeria). But for China or India, they were simply lazy at Firaxis.
Other than that, I often replace "New xxx" by a Greek- or Latin-based name when the cities are strategically important or worth developping. E.g., if a far flung city has iron, I'll call it "Ferrata". If it has horses, I'll call it "Hippia". If it's a great fishing village, I'll call it "Pisces". Etc. I keep the "New xxx" names for cities I don't really care about.
And when I plan on abandoning a city but want to sell its buildings first, I call it XXXXX, just to remember not to develop it.

I almost always never rename my cities, guess I got used to the names already there, though I can recall a few funny times that I have a city named "3" or "." (mistaken key when I hit enter on the sidepad :) ), when that happens I just let the name be.
