Your favorite Civ to play with and why

Indonesia, Kongo, Russia

Indonesia and Kongo because I often like going tall and doing a little bit of sin-city and I really like the music for both of these civs

Russia is my original favorite civ on the games release. Love their land bonus, and I like their tundra bonus. Being Russia with Tundra cities make RPing fun

Aztecs. Negates district costs. "Infinite" cities and trade routes. Never needs to worry about amenities. Over 10+ combat strength from luxuries later on makes them impossible to assail both militarily and religiously. Perfect for peace play, warmongering, any victory condition.

Egypt. Cleopatra's perks balances culture, economy and religion fairly well, and as a builder, I enjoy the wonder/district bump too. Nubia is a close second, but Egypt is more of a challenge, which I enjoy.

I've also had good games with Russia, England and Rome too.

The Kampungs produce Tourism equal to their food yield after Flight. I have no idea what this is supposed to represent (foodie tourism?), but it can be really huge if you've been plonking them down every possible place.

Well, speaking for myself, if I am going to travel to, say, France, the local cuisine is one big reason for me to go there. So it makes sense in a way, but I don't think it was intended. Unless they meant a supposed discovery of mackerel stew with sambal and ketjap after flight and use it as a tourist trap (I don't even know if this is an Indonesian dish, but it sound delicious right?)
But it makes sense in case of Japan (sushi) I guess...

Funny I was just thinking of making this thread yesterday after finishing my game with Gorgo. I wanted to ask people which civ they most enjoy playing, not necessarily the most powerful one.

As mentioned above, the idea came from my Gorgo game. I really enjoyed playing with her. She is quite powerful of course. If you go on the early offensive, as I did, that culture from combat victories is quite impressive. And later on you can't help but build acropolis's for the envoy buff. And who can't like that wild care slot. Gorgo rocks!

I still have enjoyed my Persia games a lot. But I think I might like Gorgo slightly more. For now, that is my vote.

Norway by a mile if on island plates. All the decisions at the beginning of the game are different. Build a builder first probably. Start researching sailing. And that plundering is just fun
Me too!

I just like being a Viking and general irritant to my neighbors.

The first civ I tried was Rome and it does remain a favorite. I like the road build mechanics and the stronger Legion with their fort building abilities. Coming in a close second is Spain. The Conquistadors arrive at a good moment when playing epic & marathon games (prove to be quite strong) and I like the instant conversion attribute immensely as they play to their historical role as converting expansionists (both economical and religiously). Treasure Fleets are simply grand! The team really nailed this civ in all terms! Third place is reserved for England. The power of their museums is not to be trifled with and make for a fun exploratory/archeology game. Culture wins are quite rewarding I believe. The ports prove to be a strong provider and while the Redcoats are cool their timing is somewhat off and I can't help but really miss the longbows of the previous iterations of the game. Honorable mention must be paid to China! Love the wall building (The mod for these is a MUST- as it is much better, accurate and makes their placement so much easier and fun). Their unit is timed very well and useful and is almost as cool as the samurai unit from Japan.

I'm still trying to play through all of the civs on Plain Vanilla, so I can't call a favorite yet. However, since I am more fond of the early, exploration part of the game, I've had the most fun with civs that have early, mobile UUs (Scythia, Sumeria, Egypt). I also like to have a strong navy, so, yeah, Norway.

Kongo for me, although Indonesia is a lot of fun too. I like Kongo for the Mbanza and huge bonus to archeological museums. I like Indonesia for their ability to make amazing coastal cities, and making me look at both the map and tech tree differently.

Apart from those, China is a lot of fun, as is Nubia. I haven't gotten around to the Khmer yet, as I was sidetracked by Stellaris, then Endless Space 2 after finishing my Indonesia game.

But yeah, if I have to pick one, Kongo is probably my favorite overall. They are the closest to being viable for tall, peaceful play, which is the style I prefer, but not the one which has been given the most love and attention from the developers.

Greece is turning into my favourite. That extra Wildcard Policy slot makes their governments much more flexible, though their city state bonus is obviously highly situational, but great on the right maps.

Too bad this is not a poll...

I have to give another affirmation for the Aztecs. As someone that does not usually enjoy domination victories at all and am very much lost when it comes to war, the Aztecs made it simple enough for even someone like me to understand.

1) Spawn near a city state or another civ? -> Conquer it
2) Find a spot with 2-3 luxuries and settle it -> If there's already a city there, just conquer it
3) Amass 10+ luxuries, preferably by the mid game
4) Proceed to either take down other civs with your powered-up, very happy military OR forcefully convert the other civs to your religion because your religious units ALSO get a combat bonus from luxuries; with enough of them, they can defeat enemy inquisitors on their own territory
5) Employ a mix of the above, allying and converting one civ while declaring joint war on another (religious) civ to kill two birds with one stone

_____

Well-to-do Aztecs going for a religious victory counter India pretty well, I've found (it's no Macedon, but close enough). Double war weariness doesn't matter nearly as much when you've got amenities to spare.

Nice that there are so many different favorites...speaks well in terms of game design and replay value. :p Civ. 6 is still a work in progress, but (IMO) well worth the price of admission. I doubt that the AI will ever live up to (Civ, Fanatic's) expectation, the game is spot on.

I still like "random," as it provides more variety, but there simply are no bad civilizations, :goodjob:

Some of my favorite mechanics include Great People, Policies, and Suzerain Bonuses, and any strategy which focuses heavily on those is one I'm likely to pursue. I also prefer Civilizations with Unique Districts over other types of improvements. Thus, favorite Civilizations include:
  • Brazil - 20% Discount on Great People, Carnival District
  • Greece (Pericles) - +5 Culture per Suzerain, +1 Wildcard slot, Acropolis
  • Germany - +1 Military Slot, +1 District per City, Hansa
I also love Spain, as the Conquistador is one of my favorite units in the game

Rome: I always forget to slot in monuments (or more accurately, I always have a lot of different things on my plate that early and can't find the hammers/turns for them), getting to governments in 30 turns or faster is also badass.

Kongo: It's fun to actually bother with housing and growing pop in a game, once in a while. They also have the best gold buyout economy in the late game, I've topped 3000 gpt with them in SP, 2000 in multiplayer.

Gorgo is probably my favorite right now. I absolutely love the early culture boost, and the extra wild card is a lot of fun to use. It's also great being able to manufacture envoys.

England: Just so much fun. Creating colonies in other continents and fighting in far corners of your empire with cool Redcoats and Sea dogs.

Khmer: New favorite, love the spreading of borders with holy sites, the elephants are good for taking out that cocky city-state or Alexander.

America: My culture game favorite. First clean your continent of another empire to gain a strong foothold. Then start building culture and tourism. The units are cool but the film studio is excellent!

France: Elegant playstyle with chateaus and espionage. Imperial guard gives some muscle if you decide to start a campaign.

Norway: Seems that Norway has many fans! Pillaging is nice, the units are fun. The Stave church is a bit misplaced for this civ I guess..

Australia: I love to be a world police with them, form alliances, denounce warmongers and liberate cities all the while building a strong economy at home.

Civs that give flexibility while needing some smarts to truly master are my favorites.

I like Germany and Japan for their district placement game, Australia for its appeal and coast-focused gameplay, France for its potent cocktail of culture, spy and military bonuses, and Kongo, for its freedom from needing to care about religious victory, but nevertheless needing to care about how they spend their apostles (very focused on culture, but also housing and population growth, with some mercantile aspects as well).

My least favorite to play as is Greece. They simply don't have a lot of flexibility, and getting suzerain status of enough citystates as Pericles is nigh impossible on higher difficulties even with a fully wonderful Apadana city. Also, Macedon is another of my least favorites, simply because they are so single-mindedly focused on domination/science and all too easy to use. In the hands of even a foolish human, Macedon is way too powerful.
