I am very sorry that I can only include 25 Civs, Please don't complain. But I tried to include the more popular civs. Mabye a moderator could fix this to a limit of 35 poll options so that next time we could do a part two sometime in the futer.

Would have gone for Holland, but since it's not there, I guess I'll vote for England. :p

I voted Zulu, because most of my best wins have come with them. I don't know why, sure the UB is good but I'm sure lots of people can argue why other Civs are better. But that's just the way it's worked out for me.

1- ottomans
a- UB, hamam is great. +2 happiness and +2 health just enables you pop-up your cities population higher early in the game, and if you combine it with monarchy/representation, you get quickly growth-cities which is cool
b- UU, janissarry is cool also. they come with gunpowder (without any resource need) and has +%25 against all other units except siege ones. with proper promotions they hunt every unit without any problem.

Drawbacks: you should get UU as quick as possible to use it efficiently. although they can easily dominate the era they are in. UB, is (kinda) not efficient in late game. after a time, you should be able to handle happiness through resources, trade or luxuries slider after all.

2- Byzantium:
a-their UU is great IF you have iron&horse. once you get them, your enemies will become like bugs to you. in early-mid era you just go hunting (different version of Prateorions :))
b- UB is also good. it alone gives you 2 happiness with only one slider movement.

Drawbacks: if you dont have iron or horse forget about UU. if you have enough resources for happiness or get them through trade or monarchy etc. UB doesnt have significant effect on any time

i just mentioned about civs though. in the end leader is more important than civ, who decides your game-playing style ;)

Byzantium is a good candidate for culutral wins oddly enough.

Their ub gives you +6 happines for 30% culture, +1 happy normally and +1 for horses. Combine this with caste system (to get the artists) sistine chapel, eiffel tower and some well placed cathedrals and cultural wonders. The unhappiness from others having emancipation won't even touch you.

I have no favourites, each ahve thier merits, but there are some I really hate playing as.

Favourite as in 'most fun to play' or strongest? Also, are default leaders assumed or is this just about the Uniques and starting techs?

Despite my being-British-bias, my most successful games have been as Elizabeth's England. I also seem to have become dependent on the Financial trait. Redcoats can also be useful for grabbing any late-game resources you've missed out on (like coal), if you've been relatively peaceful thus far.

I'd find it easier to state favourate traits to be honest. Things is, the way I'd play as Roosevelt is very different to the way I'd play as Lincoln, and is also different to the way I'd play as Washington. Each leader and civ has their own strengths and weaknesses. On a large landmass I'd want Roosevelt. On a medium landmass with good food I'd want Lincoln. On a more archipaelago type map I'd want Washington.

Sorry to be a pain. I've achieved my highest ever score with Roosevelt of the Americans though.

Roosevelt, America. I don't really know why. I've played this one WWII grand strategy game called Hearts of Iron II and I've often played as America in that one too. American unit voices don't sound excessively stupid either. America is just cozy to play, after trying some new civs like the Turks and Dutch, I still tend to revert back to the good old US of A.

Other plus sides with playing as USA, the normal unit graphics tend to portray American units in the modern age. Tanks are Shermans, battleships are the Iowa class battleships, carriers look like they are Nimitz class nuclear propelled super carriers. Jet fighters are F-16s, and modern armors are M1 abrams tanks and so on.

Fighters do look a bit like spitfires though. Not sure what the bombers are, probably either lancasters or flying fortresses, can't remember exactly since I dont got the game open now.

My other all time favorites are Germans with Bismarck leading them, used to play Germany/Bismarck excessively in civ3.

I would be tempted to say that I really like the British UU, and UB is not bad either, but its kind of boring though, a simple extra 15 percentage point bonus there. It just confirms the famous one-liner that the English are a nation of money lenders and shopkeepers. :D

Not to mention that the red-white colors are utterly ahistorical (sure the flag of England is indeed white with a red cross), but they weren't called the ENGLISH Empire, what happened to Britain, British, the Union Jack?

I think a lot cooler UB would be some kind of super coal plant or another production based thing since the Industrial Revolution did start from Britain.

I'm the only one voting for Carthage :(

I like the Greeks. The odeon is one of my favorite unique buildings, and philosophical is one of my favorite traits (with creative and aggressive being pretty high up there too). I don't like the new phalanx as much as the old one, although from personal experience, I can't deny the usefulness of an early unit that handles pretty much everything well. The starting techs also appeal to me; I like hunting for the starting scout, and while fishing is not always useful, seafood starts are among my favorites.

Inca. Top tier leader, top tier UU, and very good if not top tier UB.

I'm the only one voting for Carthage :(

Carthage are ok, I suppose. I personally don't like playing as them. But then I'm more of a builder with a tendency towards specialised economies, so I don't find his traits or ub particularly helpful.

I personally like Carthage because you can win however with them. I also like the Ottomans who also offer a variety of victory options. But overall i prefer random because playing the same civ too many times gets boring.

Mongolia. Very good UB/UU synergy. Beeline HBR if you have horses. If you don't have em, you're . .. .. .. .ed. If you do have em, PILLAGE AND BURN!

I like maps with lots of water, so I have a lot of love for the Vikings. The UU, UB and Ragnar's FIN trait seem tailor-made for such maps.

I was going to say Mali, but those aren't on the list. Then I'd pick Persia. Both leaders are great and I personally like cyan color :)
