Having a nice city state alliance chain can be deadly in wars and result in lucrative trades. Controlling the world congress can cripple your enemy and boost your own strengths. Overall one of the most enjoyable play styles imo. Lots of civs can do good with statecraft. My favourites are Venice, Portugal, Germany, Austria. Haven’t tried Siam yet.

Which leader do you like the most and why?

Greece, because I get to use the really fun Autocracy tenets and a few vassals and bully everyone into being my friend.

Seconded! Greece seems to be the only civ I make use of those bullying Autocracy tenets so it's always a fresh experience.

I'd go for diplomacy with the following as well:

England- statecraft is the spy tree so may as well go all in. Also just seems to fit England historically having control of CSs scattered about the world.

Morocco- maximizing his UA probably means sending trade routes to CSs promarily anyway.

Netherlands- only way to get certain luxes is from CS alliances.

I agree that the diplo victory is probably the most fun with all of its interactions with the WC and inter-civ relations.

Siam has bonuses to gifted military units and bonuses for CS ally strength. This makes bonuses to gifting and receiving gift units a core part of Siam's kit, and Autocracy's United Front tenet has bonuses to both of those.

The thing I don't get about that Autocracy tenet is that gifting units to a CS would directly make it more difficult to then tribute them for the yields and influence. In other words, Tyranny and United Front seem to be at odds somewhat but are both pretty key tenets for Autocratic Diplo.

If I remember the interaction correctly, gift units to become allies -> you've now removed the huge penalty from them having another ally (-150) and you can very easily demand tribute over and over.

I suppose that makes sense and can be workable. And I suppose you could always gift garbage units so that tributing is impacted less. It would just be cleaner if this contradiction wasn't around I guess.

I can't remember if it's possible to DoW a CS that you are friends/allies with, but if it is I guess you could also just gift them units then kill them all and peace in order to tribute.
