Ok, I was at 934 hours when I loaded up my most recent game. I played one turn went to watch tv for a few minutes, came back and saw that the screen saver is on now. Will report back later tonight.

Which is nothing. I used to play WoW... I'd be scared to see what my total /played there was.

Since you mentioned it.. I went and took a quick look. My total /played (all toons) in WoW was over 500 days

230.8. Considering I didn't get it until December, and I actually have to work for a living, and I have 18 other games on steam, this seems obscenely high to me. Not that I need to look at my steam stats to realize I have no life. I've got that pretty well figured out.

Does it still have "focus"? Ie, does your energy management setting switch to a fishbowl or some such? (You know, the animated fishy thing my cat likes to stare at for hours.)

The key is whether the app maintains focus, ie,

Nope, once it loses focus (screen-saver counts) it doesn't count.

should have been more clear - ie, if you have a screen-saver app, not just the default Windows blackscreen, it'll grab focus from the game.

try the test again, this time just alt-tab away from the game to another application. (I guess I could do this, but it'd have to wait 'till tonight 'cause I'm on the computer now.)

Edit: Whoops, bryan, I think I'm wrong - it does seem to be adding out-of-focus time to playing time.

Yeah, you'd beat me there. I quit playing in January (Cata wasn't doing it for me), I don't think I was anywhere near that. My bank toon had something like 70 days /played though - I was a bit of an AH junkie. One of the few WoW millionaires I knew.

better calculation would be if steam told you

how many turns you took, break it down to the 4 speeds
how many games you completed and started

I mostly play multiplayer(90% of time). Probably around 700 hours of play, 50 hours of waiting other players to finish their turn and 100 offline play with 4-5 hours of lazyness.

I was watching MadDjinn's youtube's of his Aztec play through, and I'd have to say, an hour for someone like him is probably three or more for me.

(he's very quick.)

Aside - and I don't know how many times I grabbed the mouse and tried to click on his playback, kept saying, "no no, go check that popup out, don't right-click it, NOoooo...!"
