Zwi1 - Low Pressure Deity

I am playing GOTM now, and when I tried to play the save, my resource graphics went crazy.

Does anyone know if I can keep GOTM and standard games together? Or do I need to uninstall GOTM?

Please pardon my stupidity.

You need to swap the GOTM "resources.pcx" and "resources_shadows.pcx" files in the Civ III art directory with your original files of the same name. Other than that, the GOTM should have no effect on the other aspects of the standard game.

oh...crap...I might have written over those files.

Problem solved.. Will play the save now.

Sorry for the delay. People.

PreTurn:

Again I play after the great Tao, your MM is absolutely impressive. Sigh, you make me realise how crappy I am. Nothing to MM.

I'll check diplo. Lit, Rep and Monarchy are available. I'll wait for Gandhi to get Lit first and then buy at 4th.

IBT:
2 Bar horseman appears where our SE scout is. Run Forest Run!!!!
Iroq and French starts GL.

530:
Washington makes worker, starts spearman. Send worker towards St. Louis. Seems to be the city most in need of worker.
MM NY to finish temple 1 turn earlier.
Bar horseman threatens our silk worker. I moved seattle spearman to protect roading. We need luxury to maintain 0% luxury, silk will be online in 3turns. Boston, Phili will riot next turn. I hire a tax collector and a scientist. Research down to zero.
I moved the extra war from Washington to become MP for Chicago.
Traded WM all around.

510:
NY finishes temple, starts rax. MM for growth.
Chicago finishes horseman, starts temple. Horseman move to MP in Boston, I intend to use this horseman for mobile MP until we have enough to destroy our southern barbarians.
Detroit is founded, starts a worker.
Traded WM all around.

490:
Washington makes spearman, starts settler
New Orleans founded, starts a worker.
Silk is online....we are in good shape again.
Fire the tax collector and scientist, research back to 10%.
Republic in 17.
Gandhi has gotten Lit. I'm not sure if I want Lit at all. In Deity, I dun forsee us building libraries. Next player can veto.
Traded WM all around.

470:
Gandhi joins the GL race.
Crap. Altanta border expansion did not yield the BG.
Miami makes a spearman, starts temple. I want expanded border to make use of the BG.
Seattle changes from worker to temple as worker is ready long before population will be. With forest chopping, temple may come in a nice time. (can veto)
Horseman MP temporary in Phili (redundant with silk online).
Traded WM all around.

450:
Phili makes spearman, starts temple (settler takes too long...can veto)
Horseman to Buffalo.
Houston changes from worker to spearman, worker ready long b4 pop growth. (We could use the defence in houston against barbarians anyway)
Traded WM all around.

430:
Washington makes settler starts spearman.
Settler and spearman moves towards San Fran, with intention to settler NE of the gold mountain, west of San Fran.
Iroq gets Monarchy, French gets Republic.
I decided not to wait anymore, trade for republic @679 from French. Prefer to trade with French since they are at war, $$ will disappear fast.
American revolt, we drew a 4 turn anarchy. Start a 40-turn engineering. ( Wouldn't start in my 10 turns so next player can veto)
Phili,Washington, Boston, San Fran hires an clown.

410:
Barbarian horsemen chasing Forest killed by French spearman (I led them to the french)
Traded WM, our map is getting more and more worthless.

IBT:
HAHAHAHA!!! India joins WW1. Gandhi+Iroq vs French. We just sit back and enjoy the show.
Iroq starts hanging gardens.

390:
Houston will riot next turn, hires a clown.
Traded WM all around. This is starting to be irritating. I need to trade 1 round of WM for WM before our WM has any value (exact value of 1 gp). 2 rounds of trade to get 3 gp. Blah!!!

In any case, everyone is polite to us now....even Gandhi.

IBT:
French settled East of Buffalo.
Indians are competing with ours for new city site.

370:
"Would you care to offer something in exchange for World Map?"
Everyone replies " You can use your WM as toilet paper."
French have Feudalism.

350:
We are now a republic. Loss of MP hurt us a little, I up luxury to 10%. Houston, St. Louis hires a tax collector, Boston hires a scientist, San Fran hires clown.
Houston changes spearman to worker, lose 2 shield, so be it.
St. Louis rushes worker for 16gp, so be it. ( no sense wasting on a tax collector, once ivory comes online we will be ok)
Settler and Spearman reached city site, can found city next turn.
MM NY to finish rax in 2 turns (Change back to plains after temple completed)
MM Boston to finish temple in 1 turn (By taking Miami's BG, please change after completed)
Traded WM all around.

Post Turn:
Settler+Spearman can found city next turn.
Please ammend above mentioned MM once temple is completed.
Scout in the south ready to pop GH, wish you luck.
Other scout on the way to the south east.
Spare Horseman in Buffalo, use as u see fit.

Hope i didn't disappoint. Save coming in next post.

Got it, and will finish the turns tomorrow.

It was expensive, but I won't argue with an early switch to Republic. It is probably about time to look for a place to put the forbidden palace, and I'll see if there is any obvious place to put it. (Oh yeah, and I'll remember to spell your title correctly in the future :) )

350 BC (0)
Trade the Republic to the Iroquois for WM + 137g + Literature (Be sure to look for trading opportunities like this).
Sell around the updated WM for 3g.

It looks like there is still quite a bit of land to grab, so we will need more settlers/workers:
Miami switches to worker
New York to settler (In republic it is a 4 turn factory)
Washington to settler
The Horseman and spearman in Buffalo head south toward a barb camp.

(1)
Paris completes the Hanging Gardens
Boston temple->settler (another 4 turn factory!)
Miami worker->worker
Buffalo worker->worker
St Louis worker->worker

The scout pops the hut, but it is empty. We found Baltimore which is surrounded by Indian cities.

(2)
Atlanta barracks->horse
Philadelphia riots (forgot to check)
Trade around the WM for 2g.
I move workers to create a trade rout with France

(3)
Washington settler->settler

We establish a trade rout with France:
Trade silks to France for wines + 4gpt +16g
Entertainers/taxmen are fired all over the place.

(4)
India is now in Anarchy because of the wars.
We lose a horseman attacking a barb camp, but the spearman sacks the camp for 25g.

Trade France our only Gems for Dyes + 5gpt + 17g.
Trade the WM around for 14g.
Rush a temple in Baltimore for 228g. (It is surrounded)

250 BC (5)
Southern scout gets 50g from a hut.
Trade WM around for 5g.
France now has a monopoly on Monotheism.

(6)
Boston and Washington complete settlers.
Chicago completes temple
Establish a colony on our second Ivory for trade purposes
We found Denver to fill in the boundaries (starts warrior)
The founding of Denver wiped out the colony as the borders stretch (oops)
Luxury tax shut off.

(7)
We defend against a barb warrior.
Atlanta horseman->worker
Detroit worker->worker

(8)
Washington and Chicago complete spearmen
Philadelphia worker->temple
Found Cincinatti

(9)
Atlanta worker->horseman
San Francisco temple->worker

Trade around WM for 35g (the southern exploration pays off)
Rush temple in Seattle for 124g.

150 BC (10)
Barbs kill one of the southern scouts.
Seattle temple->worker
Boston settler->settler
Miami worker->temple.

Buy a French worker for 25g.

The Save

zwi1_150BCdots.jpg

1. I have circled/marked potential sites for the Forbidden Palace in red. I think the red dot is a good compromise of the speed of construction and making the southern territory productive. In any case, the chosen city will have to rush a temple and courthouse to speed along the completion of the FP.

2. If you manage them for +5 food per turn, both Boston and New York can produce a settler every 4 turns. In Republic, Washington was actually wasting food while producing settlers, so I have set it to Marketplace and intend to let it grow.

3. We have 1136g and make 74gpt at 0% science. We can trade ivory + 14gpt to France for Feudalism if necessary, but we can still use cheap spearmen for barbarian defense. Ivory is also available to trade to India, but since the rout goes through enemy territory, do not trade it to them.

4. India is still at war with France and Iroquois, and is losing. France still has a monopoly on Monotheism, but look for India or the Iroquois to pick it up so that you can buy Mono from France and trade it to whoever lacks it for Feudalism.

I wasn't sure if we actually want Lit at all, that's why I didn't trade.

It is usually a good idea to jump on a deal whenever an AI civ will offer a decent price. With the amount of land we are getting, we may very well end up reasearching ourselves by the end of the middle ages. I don't mean to be too critical as buying Republic early like you did turned out to be a great move, doubling our settler production rate for the 17 turns we would have been waiting on min science. :goodjob:

Don't worry. I am glad that you mentioned my mistakes, I am new at SG and I really like to learn more.

Based on my own experience in deity games, I never allow the game to drag beyond military traditions. That's why all the diety games I have played, I have never built a single library. Please pardon my tunnel vision.

Got the save. I need to read over the recent updates for the save and make considerations. Probably won't get to play until tomorrow evening.

Save file.

Feudalism is for sale, still upward to 500g. The Iroquois and Indians are still at war. Our trade deals w/ France have a life of 3 to 9 turns, depending on the deal. It looked like we were going to get all of the SE to ourselves, but now that France is no longer at war.... . We should definitely keep NY and Boston producing settlers, and maybe switch Washington back over as well. Boston may need to build a unit next, but still set for settler production. France has monarchy, feudalism, and Theology while the Iroquois and Indians each have monarchy & feudalism. All civs are polite toward us. I rushed the temple in Cleveland (FP?) late, courthouse under construction.

It looks like we are in good financial shape with lots of room still available for expansion.

Looking forward, if we are going to build the FP in Cleveland, it would be best to rush a courthouse and assign 3-4 workers to improving the surrounding tiles (perhaps even join a worker or two to the city).

We also want to eventually start prebuilding a palace in Chicago (or another strong coastal city) so that we can get Copernicus' Observatory or Magellan's Voyage. Both of these are Expansionist wonders which will trigger our Golden Age in combination with the Industrious Pyramids. If we don't get either of these two wonders, we might have to wait all the way until the F-15 or SETI to trigger a GA.

State of the Union:
Washington has 2 improved unworked tiles and a bunch of workers are wasting effort on 4 more tiles in parallel. It would have been much better to give shields to Atlanta. Also we could have grown 2 more before we need a temple. Another waste of production capacity and maintenance afterwards.
New York: mm for more production
Atlanta: switch to aqueduct
Chicago: we don't want no library; as per Zwingli's suggestion switch to palace
SF: barracks to court; we are wasting 6 out of 11 shields
Miami: shuffle tile w Boston for more food and shields without harming B
Cleveland: contrary to report, it did not hurry temple. Good, it does not need it; switch to worker
Dallas: changed from worker to spear; I feel uncomfortable w the state of our army
Buffalo is another disaster city: fire entertainer, make scientist; hurry temple to get wheat; mm to get growth instead of producing corruption
LA has 4 workers south of it which would be much better working north
Memphis hurries temple to become FP city. It has cow and flood-plain and gold mountain.

I want to claim the spices asap, because the AIs will send settlers via galley.

1: 50AD
Buffalo temple s spear; Memphis temple s court;
Kansas City founded s warrior

2: 70AD
hurry temple in LA to get wheat; hurry temple in Philadelphia

3: 90AD
Washington, LA temples s horses; Phil temple s aqueduct; New Orleans worker s horse

IBT France s Copernicus' and Iroquois Sun Tzu's

4: 110AD
San Diego founded s spear
theology from France for 265g, 30gpt; feudalism,12g, wm from India for theology
only France has education, astronomy
wines from France for silks, 1gpt

5:130AD
W horse s pike; Miami temple s pike; Cleveland worker s next;
hurry court in Memphis

IBT we observe 20+ French units moving south east of San Diego to clean out the southern barb camps
France cancels gems deal and accepts no deal without us adding gold: no

6: 150AD
Memphis court s Forbidden Palace; NY settler s barracks
France now gives dyes, 6g for gems

IBT France s Bach's

7:170AD:
W pike s next; Denver worker s next; hurry temple in St. Louis
India discovered chivalry, traded to France for education; Iro from GLib (expired)

IBT Gandhi tries to extort tm, 54g; since he is still at war w Hia we tell him to go away and he agrees ;)

8:190AD
Cincinnati worker s next
St. Louis temple s pike

IBT Amiens b Sistine Chapel

9:210AD
zzzz

10:230AD
Miami pike s next
Richmond founded s warrior
education from India for silks, 470g

France is up chivalry, astronomy, music theory; India and Iro chivalry. I did not yet buy chivalry, because I hope to get a 2 for 1 deal.
There is still a lot of land to settle in the southeast (the western part will be done in 3 turns). We couldn't proceed faster, because there were lots of barbs and we did not have enough units. But this is changing and the French already cleared out 2 camps.
The Forbidden Palace will need a lot of time; I went for pop growth first before increasing shields.
Once we settle and connect the southern spices, we have another very good trading merchandise.
We would loose, if the French would decide to attack us. :(
