I agree totally. But the alternative to Mao was power hungry men who didn't show themselves to be leaders during the wars(both with the Nationlists and the Japenese, or the Nationalists themselves.

What did the Nationalists do? They derailed the industrialization, waged war when they could have been peace with the Communists, and made little effort to assist the poor.
