Any combination would be good. We are spiritual, so we should probably make good use of civics switch (like switch all cities to mace build when we switch to theocracy and/or vassalage, and back to infrastructure when we switch to OR).
I would go steel or economy. Former for the military, latter for the, well, economy.
[TURUTUTU-TUTUUUUU] Napoleon has declared war on us!!!!
...and he moves a massive 35 units stack into our lands towards Bibracte
His stack:
Ok, so i dramatized it a little, the thing is that he cought us pretty underdefended. so i spent most of our treasury upgrading units in our borders.
For our next tech i chose steel, drafting would be good, but cannons for the atacking phase of the war will be even better.
(besides drafting + war weariness would kill us)
Izzy asked to stop trading with shaka, but i refused.... (note his well promoted stack in our lands), and yes, thats a city defended by 1 archer alone. (i upgraded him into a longbow to scare any phant willing to attack )
made this trade for the money
On important news: I took the liberty to finish heroic epic in bibracte, i really really really think we need it, and besides hammers were starting to waste. If u dont agree sue me
(no screenshot, sorry)

I stopped to discuss this deal with tokugawa (who isn't our super trustable neighbour right now)

Nappy is prophetic, he knows a war between us is inevitable .... Good, here comes our vassal-to-be for one of our variant.
Normally I would advocate only producing pikes or maces for the CR promotion then upgrade them to grenies. But since we have free guerrilla promotion for gunpowder units, I think pikes + grenies is good. After taking care of HA, the pikes could be turned into CR grenies.
I don't think so ... for one, this SG has been slow going, for two, we don't seems to be a winning position.
Let's try to play slightly more turns (~15) each turnset.
re: vassal vs elimination, depends on the situation. I think it is easier to have nappy as vassal since being aggressive, he would send armies to help in our future war (plus he is in a central location. I wouldn't take the diplomacy hit too seriously unless we are still thinking of diplo win (I doubt its viable, since our only bud friend went free).
I'd join, but I fear I wouldn't be of much help, being only a Noble-level player who's only beat Prince once on Time (granted, I play on Aggressive AI w/o tech trading)...
No, no -- I don't have the skill level to join this game, I fear I'd just end up messing it up and losing it That was not an offer, that was an apology for being too much of a noob to pull it off!
I will, however, continue to follow the game with patient interest.
Think of it this way Alcaras - you only have 15 turns and its really hard to mess anything up in that few of turns. Plus your chance to learn will be greatly increased.
This is to say that I've played some turns. I'll add more detailed comments / screenshots later, when I have more time, but here is a quick summary:
- We've popped a Great Prophet
- We've popped a Great General
- We can take out Marseilles this turn if we want (tho' I wouldn't recommend it)
- Nappy is willing to agree to peace and give us lots of money
- Shaka and Saladin have just declared war on us
The other thing I wanted to say is that I don't feel I can continue with this game any longer. I'm simply not enjoying it anymore. I've been feeling that way for some time but my intention was to carry on and see this game through to the end. However, I'm now getting increasingly resentful and frustrated with the amount of time it is taking from my personal life - to the point where a turnset is something I've come to dread rather than look forward to - and that kind of attitude leads to neither good teamwork nor thoughtful playing. It isn't this game in particular, but succession playing in general, so for the time-being I need to take a break from it altogether. I can only apologise to the remaining team-members and wish them good luck with the rest of the game.
No problem, Scowler. A game, by definition, is meant to derive fun out of it. When it is no longer fun for you, you shouldn't be compelled to complete it.
At this point I would ask if Crotazzo wishes to continue with the game.
Well, as our gorilla team is mostly disolved, i would rather stop with this game, my reasons are that this game has got to a stage that i would play 40 turns more and if i dont make big progress i would consider it as a loss and start a new one. I really dont see a way to win this without planning a sutile almost cheat strategy. Lets face it... we are close to be eaten.
I have time to play 1 sg game at a time, and since i installed bts recently i would rather try one with the expansion.
So gentlemen, its been a pleasure playing with u, and if someone of the team starts a new sg game, please pm me and i will try to join.
Likewise. I hope we get a chance to play again one day, Crotazzo. BTW, your comment in your last turnset about building the Heroic Epic really made me laugh
The turns I played were mostly concerned with fending off Nappy's attacks, building up more troops / defences - and pushing back Huayna's culture at Verlamion so that the city didn't starve (successfully achieved):
Here are the current hotspots at the end of the turnset. Shaka / Saladin have only just declared:
As you can see from that last picture I deliberately saved with several units still having movement points. This was because Nappy is now willing to offer peace and I wanted to give the team the opportunity to decide how to continue; my preference would be to take out the city (a not unreasonable choke-point) and then immediately get peace so as to concentrate on S / S.
Too bad I'm with my hands full at the moment ( 4 SG + 2 open games hosted by me ( can't skip them ) + some offline games I'm been delaying + that little thing called RL )...Otherwise I would pick it
