1.16 released

Where you and everyone could help me most is by constructing a list of which aircraft type is most appropriate for which civ (feel free to start a new thread for it). So for example, I imagine the English would have Spitfires for Fighters, the Americans would have a B-17 or B-52 for Bombers and the Russians would have some variety of MiG for the Jet Fighter. I'm happy with (in fact I'd prefer) several civilizations sharing the same model where appropriate. Note that I'd like to add a Biplane unit at some point too, so please include suggestions for those.
This is a touch problematic because so few nations actually ever had significant strategic bomber forces. Fighters are relatively easy because most of the civilized world either builds their own or (more common) buys them from somewhere else. So countries that in the modern world are behind the curve economically and technologically (all of sub-Saharan Africa) still have jet fighters which can be modeled because they're buying someone else's.

Of course, it would REALLY help to know what models are available before trying to compile the list. Be kind of silly for me to say these countries should use an F-4 Phantom model only to discover there aren't any.

Slightly different topic: I'd like to add a Drone/UAV unit, which would unlock at Cybernetics. I'd like suggestions for how such a unit could be best implemented (Gunship-like? Bomber-like?) and what stats and abilities it could have.
If it reflects the real-life strengths and weaknesses of such aircraft, its weaknesses would make it relatively vulnerable in combat, but it would be cheap and low-risk to deploy. If you make it like a helicopter, give it low strength but a high withdrawal chance, so that it's good for harassment and skirmishing but not good for blasting out an enemy with a mature air defense network.

I don't know what to do if you make it a regular air network.

It depends on what type of UAV you're wanting to portray. The RQ-11 Raven is controlled by soldiers on the battlefield for real time recon, which would probably equate to a sentry II promotion in game terms.

I imagine your thinking of the MQ-1 Predator and the MQ-9 Reaper. The MQ-1 Is generally used for recon, but still capable of attack and The MQ-9 is a precision aircraft with the ability to leave little to no collateral damage (comparatively speaking).

Maybe we could give them the ability to target specific buildings/units in a stack/city, with a 5% chance of killing it if its health is low enough? And give the MQ-1 the ability to see submarines and the stealth destroyers to fill the role of airships. Personally, I think they should act like normal aircraft units that are rather cheap and vulnerable. Given their usage is normally after air superiority is achieved. Also can it be programed to where they only take 1/2 an airbase slot?

I don't know what's available myself unfortunately and there aren't any up to date lists that I'm aware of. Your best bet is to take a browse through here and see what you can find. There's bound to be some that aren't listed there though, mods like Realism Invictus tend to have lots of new units in them that are unavailable elsewhere. So when putting together a list, feel free to include wishlist items or multiple options as I can have a hunt through RI and such and see if I can find any of them.

I'll keep these suggestions in mind. Note that as it will be unlocked quite late in the game (early Future era in fact, similar time to the Stealth Bomber) it doesn't hurt if it's quite a powerful unit in some way. It's basically meant to be a bonus for the military player who makes it that far in the tech tree.
 
1.17 update:

All known crashes are resolved and everything is done except diplomacy text for a few of the new leaders. I'm going to spend some time today getting those written, checking for loose ends and seeing if there are any other minor fixes/additions that can be included without too much trouble.

Tomorrow I'll try get Fusion and Windows installed so I can fix any PC-only XML errors (there's always a few every version). Then it's upload time!

I'll look it over.

It will probably be easier to cast WWII bombers as Bomber units, rather than jets- and if most nations' art is of piston-engine bombers, the US will look very odd with a B-52 flying around.

I had a look, most of the civs without an already modeled fighter can probably get one out of the generic options on the bottom

Just to be clear- only the "generic" aircraft at the bottom of that list are lacking in some identifying marking that reveals them to be a particular nation?
 
some of the generic aircraft are just that, generic, no markings beyond their camo skins, others (like the f86) have "team color" stripes etc. I included them because I thought they were worthwhile staring points for civs that do not have their own jet fighters. The aircraft I attached to a civ have some real world or customized markings that attach them to that civ.
