Almost. I did start work on it, but I can't promise that I'll ever finish or that it'll ever get released. It all depends on my free time, and at the moment i don't have a lot.
Sorry I've been so quiet. Been busier than a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
Brad: THANKS!
Haven't had the chance to try the patch yet. However, I just managed to get a new G4/400 processor for my beast. I still can't get above 10.1.4 (forget about jaguar, it keeps crashing on booting the jaguar CD) And will try it out. I understand the lack of free time... I think between my 9 year old's little leage schedule and work, I'm starting to wish there were 72 more hours per day.
Gossamer G3 (Original Beige G3/233) overclocked with a 400 MHz G4
384 MB RAM
OS X 10.1.3
Applied the patch, and loaded a saved game of one of my edited scenarios. Loaded no problem. No crashes. Things seemed to be running quite smoothly. Haven't found a 1.29 scenario I'd like to play yet. Been looking for an Earth one so I can see if the civ placements work.
Well, fwiw, startup positions seems to work... sort of. I replayed one of my modified earth scenarios, and every single time I played it, I started in the southern part of south America. Everyone else stayed the same! It was rather interesting watching the scenarios load under 1.29 BUT... is it always this slow on some of the scenarios like Earth 1500-1700?
I've just read over the entire threat. I run OS 9.2.2 and have never had a single crash playing (finished >20 games). I want to start playing the GOTM, so it seems I need 1.29. BUT, there have been various reports from <OSX people saying that you have crashes when wonders are built (although there has been some reference to "wonder movies" and I don't know what these are--all I've ever gotten are little pretty pictures of the wonders when they are built, am I missing something?).
Anyway, I'm not uber-skilled with my computer so I don't feel comfortable testing it out and then deciding I need to kill everything, re-install and start again from scratch. I don't do that well. Basically, what I'm asking people are:
1) Are there any people who have tried <OSX who have NOT had crashes with wonder screens??
2) Has anyone found a way to bypass this crash? As I said, I don't think I've ever had a "wonder movie," unless I've misinterpreted what this means.
Thanks for all the help--I doubt many of you realize how many people read this and how many Civ-lovers you gurus help!

I used to run Civ3 under OS9.1 (a few crashes from time to time) but since the Editor's been out (though getting that to work is like nailing jelly to the ceiling) I've been exclusively running Civ3 under OSX Jaguar - only had two crashes i think, nothing caused by Wonder screens either.
I have OSX Jag. installed on a 70Gb external firewire drive, so I can boot-up into either 9 or 10 (I do a ton of audio work, so I use 9 for that... it's my day job).
If you can upgrade to OSX Jag. , do - but maybe try a dual-boot system so you can still go back to 9 if needs be - and install a second copy of Civ3 onto the OSX drive for use in OSX etc...
Tarquin, if you're hesitating about upgrading to 10.2, then I assume you have good reason. If you have yet to play either a GOTM or a 1.29 game, then it sounds like you have a pretty clean game. Why not install 1.29 and see what happens? If you have problems, then all you have to do is re-install 1.21 with your disk, which should be simple, since you haven't otherwise modified your game.
By the way, the movies were something the game asks if you want when you first install it. You probably said "no." Check your original readme for the procedure on how to re-check these choices. I think it's pressing the command key while loading the game.
You could also ask players like Zwingli, who used 9.2 and had problems, what they are doing now.
Okay, so silly me, but where can one download the 1.29 beta 2 patch? In this thread I've only found links to the (2nd) 1.29 beta 1 patch (which downloads to my computer as "Civ3_129_b1_1.sit"). Is it hidden deep in the editor threads? (which I haven't read...)
I think I've finally got a line on the freeze bug I've been experiencing. It always occurs during unit movement. I now think it may be caused by the music and sound effects trying to play at the same time. When I turn the music off and keep the sound effects, the problem goes away. I have Monsoon USB speakers hooked up to my dual 800. It's also worth noting that the audio controls don't work very well. Sometimes resetting them works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm pretty sure the answer is in here somewhere. Brad?

Sorry to reduce your hope. Yes, it happens during unit movement. However, I have switched off all sound and it still happens from time to time. And I don't have any speakers connected.

I'm running an iBook on 10.1.4 with the 1.29 beta_2 and made it through Gotm20 without problems...
However, and there alsways is a however, after that I was mucking about and I too am getting the stall at the end of all movement, the way Txurce described it.
At one point it was really bad and I deleted about 50 old games and the problem went away.
However (see I told you), it is back and likelihood seems to increase with the number of Civs i have found and the distance into the game (circa 500BC on).

Reproducing it is usually no problem, since I can't remember the last session when it last didn't happen. On the other hand, I just called up two different saves, one ealry in a agame and one late, and I couldn't reproduce it. Could it be that the problem is caused by session length (i.e., not saving)?
I'll wait until it happens again, save it, and see if it reproduces. If it does, I'll send you the save. And I'll try to remember to keep track of turns played, if only to test my theory.
