1.52 Patch Available

I install the patch, but then my PC tells me I don't have a version of Civilization IV installed, and so it can't install the patch. But I patently DO! I bought the download version online from FilePlanet / GameSpy.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can get this patch to install?

Hey, I went directly from 1.00 to 1.52. I never bothered with 1.09 due to all the complaints it got.

The game runs PERFECT now. I am glad I skipped 1.09.

Hey Thamer,
Happy Holidays and I'm happy to see Firaxis here gathering as much information as possible. I just want to confirm what Harkonnen has been saying in that all background movement still continues when the wonder movies are being played. Workers still work, wheels still turn, water still flows, smoke rises, mines move, etc. etc. I've noticed that the first wonder movie typically plays fine, but each subsequent movie gets worse and worse in quality until eventually they don't play at all. I'm not sure why that is, but it is reproduceable every single game I play. I can send you along my Civ4.ini file if that would help you out. In version 1.00 I had no problems with my wonder movies. In 1.09, none of them would play. In 1.52, the first one plays fine then they all slow down and stutter until eventually they don't load at all.

Well, it's interesting that for me, as far as I see, units get frozen when Wonder Movies are played, plus they are smooth.

On the other hand, somethimes my victory movies get choppy, but when they are played background music can still be heard, so maybe then backgraound units aren't frozed anymore too, leading to lags.

Anyway, maybe that whole thing about animated units in background on just some game configurations is a reason for choppy movies?

Why it would be on just some configurations I have no idea.

I do know that in my wonder movies units are fronzen (and movies smooth).

I get really weird things from the leaders, nightmare faces with popping eyeballs and mandibles for the first few seconds on some, strange "Village of the Damned" glowing eyes on others. The wonder movies are choppier than before (and they were already almost unwatchable before). The game crashes when I try to do a quicksave. PLUS, for all this, I see no real performance enhancement which, as I understand it, was the main reason for this patch.

Seasons greetings to you too, Firaxis...

What about this?

I get that also with Egypt and German (Frederick) leaders.

Before patch I also got this in civilization choosing screen (play now), but never with diplo screen as introduced in 1.52.

Cor! Thanks to the last 4 people for completely ignoring my request for help! Balls to y'all!

I guess you have the Direct 2 Drive-version of the game. If that's the case look att post 332 Otherwise I don't have a clue

I downloaded the upgrade 1.52 2 days ago and things are going just smooth for me. I love the civlopedia...much easier to find what I am looking for.

So kind of you to wish the four of us Happy Holidays. And to you as well! :p

Now, if you had read through the whole stream as I just did - FOR YOU! - you would have been able to answer your own question: patches for the downloaded versions of the game appear later.

So I'm sorry you're frustrated and thanks for your balls, but I'm more of a whole body kinda guy;) Let us know when you want them back :king:

(disclaimer: The above was meant to be taken with humour. Peace)

Same with me! Frozen background and perfect Wonder movies.

So does everyone who has choppy/crashing Wonder vids also have movement in the background?? ie: worker actions, rivers, mines, etc..

That Pic of Peter isn't a graphics glitch, it's a feature. Peter's civ is currently plagued with leprosy, as you can see by his leader pic. Hehe.. Just kidding.

I've had this too, although I haven't played until late game on 1.52 yet, so I don't know if this has been fixed. I'll update later but it sounds like it's not going to have changed yet...

Hi. CivIV worked fine with patch 1.09.

I installed 1.52 on top of 1.09. The only negative consequence I can detect is that the minimap has gone bonkers. It looks like crap.

Anyone else had this problem?

The wonder videos are still jerky, but they were under 1.09 as well.

Perhaps my problem is due to patching 1.52 on top of a played 1.09 which had a saved config and caches (or whatever).

Perhaps the solution is to completely uninstall CivIV, delete the saved stuff directory for CivIV under My Documents, and reinstall.

When I reinstall, should I use 1.09 first or only use 1.52 (and skip starting with 1.09)?

My graphics card is a 128mb ATI Radeon X300.

Thanks.

This is kind of strange, but at least there's something of a pattern here. I typically play with AA set at 2x through the in-game menu and with the memsaver option set to '1' in the .ini file. With that, more often than not the videos are jerky. If I turn the AA off, the jerkiness decreases a great deal, but after a few movies it is still there. If I go and set memsaver to '0' as well, then the movies are silky smooth no matter how many play and no matter what I am doing in the game. They are as nice and clean as they were on the initial install. :D

If I then go and turn AA back up to 2x, the movies still play fine. So it looks as if there is a conflict between the memsaver option and Anti-Aliasing in this game. I'm going to go into my videocard driver settings and see about setting a higher AA level in there just to see if that will change how the movies work.

The only way to find out is to apply the patch. :) If you still have black terrain after that, chance is you would need to upgrade your graphcis card. Also, upgrade your graphics card driver if you haven't already.

i am upgrading my card but for the meantime about 1-2 days should i download the patch or just wait for the card
