1.52 Patch Available

When I first downloaded the patch and tried to install it it said that it wasn't a vaild win32 application file but it installed.
The computer promptly locked up and when I rebooted it went right back to the game I had last played by itself.
It works alright now but still says it isn't a valid app exept one thing; whenever I try to play a mod there is no text anywhere.
No text on the buttons, none on any of the pop up windows or anything.
I exited the game just by remembering the locations of all the buttons.
It was funny just for a second when the diplomacy window came up but there was no text whatsoever save a couple "...."
Anyone else have this problem with mods?
It was the Realism mod that I had loaded

Just wanted to say No problem Admin and thanks for being fair and warning the other guy too. No problem here just didnt like someone taking credit away from Hark when his patch is the only one that allowed CIV 4 to run on my computer. Being as the "official" patches crash my computer you can see why I would be quick to jump to his defense. Have a good day!!!

ps. A little Merry Christmas popup from Hark is no reason to get upset.

Being that this is the second patch...are we ever going to get the promised advisors and throne room that were falsly advertised in their marketing promotions before the game was released?

Where was that advertised, exactly?

There were screenshots of the throne room, and information released by Firaxis about advisors during interviews, et al., that does not exist in the game.

Not to mention the fact that you can find remnants of it in their code (indicating a last minute pull).

could a mod define trolling for me please???

Edit,

Yes I remember these. But truthfully wouldn't you rather see them work on the current problems then create all new ones with more clutter.

Hmmm, I hadn't seen anything advertised.

Who cares about the throne room? It's purely cosmetic! As for the advisors...won't that just be more stuff to animate, slowing down the game, and causing a whole new ration of complaints?

I can see wanting enhanced advisors, but I don't think the throne room is missed very much...

I don't have problems with it playing on my computers, though. So, I came here looking for what what promised to me when I purchased it, but did not find it in the read me, and thought this was the best place to ask what patch might contain it.

Hours ago I installed v1.52 and just finally stopped playing. It runs great and I'm glad to see the civlopedia improved. I'm playing huge map, 13 civs, marathon speed, monarch difficuty and what appears to be raging barbarians. I'm upto 1100's BC and everythings perfectly dandy so far.

Sgt Grimes,
Not sure if this will work. Try downloading the patch from a mirror. When you install it from the exe with the civ cd in the drive. Does it give you an option to uninstall it or does it just patch. Just an idea. The reason I am thinking this is the last patch used the game installer to install the patch. Just thinking maybe it goes through the install process, sees it is already installed and then asks you if you want to make a change. You can also try this by going to the setup on the cd. It will give you uninstall options.

Thank you for suggesting that blue, but I've already tried running both patches with the disc in the drive. The 1.09 patch simply flags up the exact same error message that I mentioned earlier; while the 1.52 patch reports that version 1.52 is already installed, but do I want to install it again anyway!

I am now giving serious thought to the option of removing all registry entries for the game, and deleting it from the drive manually...........that is, if I can drag my arse off it long enough to make the effort.

Curse those Firaxian devils for making this game so addictive! :D

mmmmm regedit. Endusers in the reg makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

White elk,

I was happy also, like I said in an earlier post. But come the 1500's I started to see issues. Crashed in the 1600-1700's hard. Many different types so far.

All (IMPORTANT!)
I don't know why, but I see that some of you still get my fix working right after installing 1.52. This is not ok! At least this wasn't intention of 1.52. Neither me, nor Firaxis are interested in my fix to be started with 1.52 because it does not improve anything with 1.52 or even worse - it may cause 1.52 to crash. So... READ ON.

I tried 1.52 via executable mirrored at CFC (not in-game 'check for updates'). I pay for traffic, so I prefer keeping those downloads stored in the place I know. This way I had my patch nullified via overwriting 'zlib1.dll' by the installer, I did nothing. Probably updateing via mirrored executable instead of in-game update was the reason for update to work nicely. Civ4 wasn't running by the time of update.

Read the bottom of post #1 here. It has original 'zlib1.dll' link. Anyway, I'd suggest to reinstall 1.52 or entire game since this may be the sign of more unupdated entities.

Note to thamer - with 1.52 game unloads a bit longer again. I don't know how updater is started, but if it does not wait for civ4.exe process to finish (or waits for too short hardcoded delay), it'll fail to update many binaries, including 'zlib1.dll' and even civ4.exe... I don't know if in-game installer reports these errors or silently eats them...

This is why I don't download unofficial patches- your post is Greek to me! :D

Well, again not to blame anyone, but to defend myself... :) This appears to be a problem with 1.52 installer, provided one of its deliberate activities was to disable my fix (for good reasons). It might be either MindVision problem (installer / safedisk protection) or Firaxis or both...

Just replacing 'zlib1.dll' has exactly same obstacles as replacing any other DLL in the game, including its executable and even accessing ARTx.FPK files. That said, having my fix operational after 1.52 means having 1.09 operational after 1.52... I'd suggest clicking 'About This Build' in 'Advanced' menu (in case that info is EXE, but not XML backed).

"Check" this out.

Happens when I enable memsaver...

All good!

And to be honest.
This is the only thing out of the whole list of fixes in the readme, I don´t like.

I liked it that a damaged unit wouldn´t do the full damage it does when it´s undamaged, as damage would also mean a loss of weapons/soldiers (and therefore firepower) and IMHO there was no reason to change the current system as it worked well.

But aside from this one, the list looks great. :)
Good that I finished my last game just yesterday, so that I can try the patch with a new game later this day

bumpity bump:sad:

Does anybody know why do I get weird things like this after installing 1.52?

Good point Harkonnen. I ran the installer while Civ was still running and it reported no problems, even though it was impossible to update things since game files were in use. So this could be a potential problem if Civ was still running or hung up for some reason.

However, it would be caused by a problem with V109 not shutting down quickly (instead of V152), since that's what people would be running when they clicked 'update' to get V152. Also, the first screen of the installer is a welcome screen and waits for the user to hit return to begin the installation process, so that should give extra time for Civ to shut down also.

I don't know what happened, but that text is stored in this file:
Assets\XML\Text\CIV4GameText_Misc1.xml (line 8832)

If you open up the file in notepad and go to that line number or search for AUTOSAVE, you should see the entry along with translations for different languages.

If that file or line isn't there, then your xml files didn't install correctly. Also, do you have that same file in your custom assets folder? Maybe that's causing a conflict...

My situation:
Pre-patch the game was a bit slow and would sometimes, well most times, would go directly to the desktop when a wonder of the world was made.

Post-patch the game seemed a bit smoother but then errored out of game and had a fatal error that went to an old DOS like screen and said it could have done a lot of damage to my comp, I couldn't get a screenshot of it.

Post-patch with a video driver update- I had to start a new game and it was running extremely smooth, I couldn't believe how smooth actually. But then I built the Oracle in my capital and it froze up and after about 5-10 minutes the OK button shows up where it should on the wonder video and then the game runs incredibly slow. So I try to save it and I get an allocation error and it won't save and then goes back to the desktop.

In the read-me of the patch it says something about a separate download for low-rez wonder videos, I cannot find this anywhere and think it might fix my problem. Anyone have a link to this download?

And a suggestion that might even work better, give us an option to turn off wonder movies.

Please help, the game is incredibly fun for the amount of time I get to play each time before it quits on me. I really would like to be able to play it without any problems and I don't think that is a lot to ask.

So please, anyone know of how to get that low-rez wonder video download?
