I'm near the end of the game, I just launched the spaceship with about 12 turns to go.

I decided to kill time by attacking some other civs. However, when I try to declare war on a rival, the option is not available.. anywhere.

I can't enter his territory, I can't do the alt+ click his name on the score chart, I can't choose the your head on the pole... I somehow have a 10 turn peace treaty with him and I have no idea how!!

However, this peace treaty has been stuck on 10 turns for the past 5 turns so I probably won't be able to attack them before the spaceship arrives.. :(

whats going on here??

Whenever you make any deal with a civ, you automatically get a 10 turn peace treaty. Did you trade a resource with anyone, or something like that?

Whenever you make a one sided deal with the AI (gifts, tribute etc.) you automatically get 10 turns peace treaty to prevent demands of tribute and and backstabbing in the game (remember there is no diplomatic penalty "break" an agreement as it was in previous civs).

When you see the deal it always says "peace treaty for 10 turns" no matter how many turns are left.

Go to the foreign advisor, active agreements. Mouse over the "pt for 10 turns) and see how many turns remain before you can cancel it. It automatically expires, which explains why it sometimes says "deal cancled pt for 10 turns" with an ally or friend even if have no agression towards one another.

If this is not the case, report it as a bug in the correct forum.

yeah, the peace treaty finished. Somewhere I guess I gave him a tech or demanded money from him... don't remember when but everything is working fine now.
thanks guys

I also won the game by space victory on noble difficulty... yaay

Demanding money from anyone is automatically considered a tribute to not pound on them if they cave-in... call it "protection money".

You: "Hey, puny civ... give me money or else"
AI: "here's my money..."

Effect: 10-turn Peace Treaty

Keep that in-mind when demanding tribute... never demand it from anyone you intend on pounding in the next 10 turns!

Congratulations on your win. :goodjob:

Thanks for the tips guys.. Ive had this problem today...

I have an AI close to me, real close to me... and the barbarians were raping him...
So i helped him out by taking the cities and liberating them back to the Germans instead of razing them

They are close and eventually i would close in on them and culture em over anyways, so thats why i gave em back to the germans

However.. the germans have used this opportunity to expand, and in the process built cities right in my planned city areas... I dont blame them tho.. we were placed in such a weird way we were bound to expand into each other...Im on the Northwest edge of the map, and hes just south of me, and i can only expand south.. not east
lol, the germans are building 3 more settlers, so obvously im hording in on his territory also... Time to make room...

So now i must attack the Germans to get the cities out of my way...
I dont capture, i raze and settler, i like all my cities nice and neat all in a row...
I assumed the culture would take over these cities so i could raze, but for some odd reason, this game is proving harder and longer then normal...
so now i must attack.. i tried to attack the germans, and no... i cant declare war.. wth....

All i have with the guy is open borders... until i look and see
Little did i know, we have a peace treaty i was unaware of... for 10 turns... wth...

now i know why... thanks guys :)

1 problem tho.. now that i have waited for the peace treaty to wear off..
im attacking.. and it isnt giving me the option conquer or raze... its immedielty bringing up the build menu...

no razing, they are taking the cities.. is this becuase i liberated them earlier in the game? this sucks.. now i got cities too close together and i read the other day there is no other way to raze cities...
i left spaces intentionally in my city planning so i would have a 5x5 plot for my settler after i razed the city.. now i have 2 conquered cities too close to my other cities... this sucks

I suppose i could gift them, then raze them.. would that work at least?

Well sort of. The fact that you once owned them will prevent you from razing them again. The game considers them your cities now, and you can't raze your own cities.

I gifted the 3 cites last night to soemone else.

so i can never ever raze them now... great... remind me not to liberate cities for civs close to me...

so basically i cant do anything personally?
unless i
1. start over
2. erase the city in the world builder
3. hardest of all....i need another AI to raze them for me
I will eventually culture takeover the 3 cities.. but that wont give me the option to raze prolly huh

i can sic an ai on the owner but then the question becomes...
What are the chances of an ai razing or keeping a city? is their a percentage?
anyway to affect that ratio?

Use world builder and delete them. I did the first time I came across this annoying 'feature' in the game.

Learn from your own mistakes. Don't help the AIs like that.

Hey, i have an infinite peace treaty that hasn't counted down for like the past 50 turns. This is incredibly annoying as i have had an advanced army ready to take out the egyptians on the other side of this country.

The only infinite peace treaties are taking a vassal or a permanent alliance. I doubt this is a permanent alliance. Did the Egyptians contact you in the past and say something like "please protect us from harm and you shall have our loyalty"? If they did and you clicked yes, they are your vassal and you can't attack them. You can, however, direct their research and they will go to war with whoever you do.

If you took a vassal, I'd suggest you look up the strategy guide on vassals. A peace vassal can renounce you but you can't renounce them.

Go into your trade screen, then in the page showing what agreement you have for each leader. Then click on your peace treaty.
