1205 AD on GEM

What is the point of the Latin Empire if they are going to have only Athens after a couple of turns?

Simply realism.
Also, in my game, so far, The Latin Empire loses Costantinople, but keeps his other cities and has (a few) chances.
The Byzantines start with a single one too - and in my opinion in that region a civ has to be destroyed or become vassal of another one, considering how packed the area is.

- I wanted to give to the Papal State, Bologna, or some other city of the Marca Trevigiana, but there isnt really room for any other one.

However the Papal State performs well in the games I playtested.

Likewise I do not think that Rhodes would have enough room to strive and Cyprus - that you mentioned - should have pledged allegiance to Frederick II and the HRE - as a crusader state under the Lusignan dynasty - so I do not feel like passing it to direct Papal control.
I'll check with Rhodes though but I cant recall if it was still under the Byzantines.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

hmmm, what the hell is Danish Baltic Empire? such thing has never existed. in the 13th century the baltics were in two countries - Livonia (Latvia and Estonia ruled by an upper class of Baltic Germans) and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Please, correct this mistake.

Welcome, Weasler! (I think he meant Danish Baltic Sea Empire, but Danish Empire would have been better, indeed.);)

Exactly.
Jeelen has an empathic link with me these days and understand my typos ahead of me ;-)

In the game it is indeed Danish Baltic Sea Empire.

Re: Livonian Order.
They didnt last enough to be relevant in the game and hand them a civ (1204-1237AD) of their own.

Likewise the Grand Duchy of Lithuania establishes itself as a regional power a bit later (after 1219 AD) after defeating the Livonian Brothers of the Sword and after the continuous wars with the Teutonic knights.

So, for simplicity I left them room to grow as Poland (perfect for Poland-Lithuania), placing barbarian states in those areas.

I wish I was able to include every state! ;-)
But the game playability would sink...

Hello to you too! :)
In the end I must agree to You. That would maybe make the game sink, sad though, I was hoping to finnaly play with my country (In some way) ;)
But the mod is great, keep up the good work! :)
P.S. Actually they do last for 332 years, but Established only in 1228

Thanks for the link!

FYI, I just uploaded the version correcting Iceland's capital.
If anybody played the game for a bit, I would be curious to hear what happens.
If you spot inconsistencies or other issues, do let me know, I can fix a few for sure!

Uploaded version 1.3 after some labor limae - just minor changes:

1) Solved some pre-existing issues with river placement.

2) Gave Aztecs and Incas extra spearmen units to counter barbarian horse archers attacks (I playtested with incas and encountered problems due to the raging barbarians).

3) Redistributed iron/horse resources to strengthen Aragon, Castile-Leon, Portugal and Venice.

4) Gave 2nd city to Portugal - Oporto - and changed Santiago to Santander as the northern port for Castile-Leon.

5) Gave Mongols extra technology (Literature) to boost their score - in the attempt to be more appealing for their potential vassals (Xi Xia).

6) Make Rome Christianity's Holy City.

7) Added Judaism to all Iberian cities.

Horse archers in America in 1205 AD? Did you preplace them?

Jeelen, thanks for making me notice that.
I did remove those previously as I noticed the inconsistency (horse archers were in the original IJnavy 1100AD scenario) and changed them with Dog Soldiers Barbarian Units.

However I just realized I did upload the wrong wbs version.

Now I just fixed it and uploaded the correct one.

The final version is still 1.3 but has Dog Soldiers in the Americas and also Palenque, not Tulum, as the 2nd Maya city.

I'm currently working on a major update, as I finally managed to import new modular leaderheads from CIV GOLD :D.
Amen!

The next update will see medieval-flavor leader heads for:

- France (no more Napoleon but Joan D'Arc LH)

- Aragon (Afonso LH)

- England (Henry VIII)

- Bulgaria (Vlad Dracul)

- Poland (Sobieski)

- Rus (Ivan IV the Terrible)

- Sweden (Alaric)

- Papal State (Richelieu)

Likely many more, if I find existing ones that are suitable.

Atm I still do not like Boudica as Thamar the Great and plan to move Louis XIV to Toulouse and use Llewelyn for the Latin Empire.

Some of the LH are absolutely remarkable.
They should improve the quality of the medieval game by far...no more anachronistic Bismarck/Roosevelt etc hanging around!

EDIT: I am not importing whole civilizations as of yet (i.e. Magyar, Romania etc), but just the leaderheads, that will of course have also their own specific traits, beside the better graphic.

I'd like to suggest the Yemen LH Makeda as Thamar (she looks stunning).;)

And nice work so far!

Cool, I'll definitely check her LH.
Otherwise I guess I'll switch Georgia's leader to male and use Basil of Byzantium.

I'm nearly done with the 1.4 version, that introduces several medieval Leader Heads and really improves the flavor of the game (Jeelen: Makeda is in, indeed very cool LH).

I should be able to upload it tomorrow or after tomorrow.
I'm just debating if to introduce the Kara Khitai Khanate in central asia, and if so, if to take off the declining Chola Empire or the Aztecs...

If someone has to recommend a good website to upload large file please let me know.
The 1.4 version is obviously heavy, due to all the graphics included.

I thought you made the Kara Khitai barbs to give the Mongols something to conquer? But if you want to switch something around, you could use the Maya as well (who were easily conquered by the Spanish), whereas the Tamil Chola (arguably in decline as well), but the greatest builders of India for the sheer scale and size of many of their temples. The question is: do you want 2 civs in India or 3 in all of America? (But I wouldn't semove the Aztec, as their rise was just beginning.)

Sent you back a PM.;)

Yeah, the Kara Khitai are currently barbs and the Mongols do usually conquer 2 of their cities.
However now that I have a cool Leader Head for them (Bayanchur) it might be interesting to throw them in the melee, to better represent all the nomadic tribes of central asia with a 2nd aggressive civ.
At the moment they are a bit under-represented with just the mongols.

I might give them Kashgar and Balasgun and put them at war with Khwarezm.

I havent made up my mind about it, and if so, about which civ to remove (Maya, Chola, Aztecs. My inclination is toward the Cholas...)
But thanks a lot for the input!

I'll continue further discussion on the new thread created on the GEM forum, per Genghis Kai:
