1205 AD on GEM

Yes! 1400 A.D. is good too! I can't wait! Are you going to keep the HRE united, or split into several different states?

I will split it into, Crown of Bohemia and House of Habsburg, plus a few minor nations cities up for expansion.
I'm up to 44 civs.

Great. I was thinking along thoes lines as well. You could use Brandenburg or Prussia as another, and then possible Hamburg. I'd say thoes are your two prime choices, since the Hapsburgs kind of already dominate the land Bavaria ruled over, no?

Also, how about the Native Americans? Are you going to diverseify them, or keep them as a standard united civ?

Where and how can I change the names of the nations, leaders and cities? I just want to play with the German terms, so no offense ;)

It is extremely easy.
Open the Wbs file, right clicking on it, using wordpad or whatever editor you prefer.
Then press shift and f to call the search function and then insert the name you are looking for.
Change it.
Save it.
And play.

Just be careful not to accidentally modify anything else of the XML code, or you risk that it wont load the mod. Just a , or a . in the wrong place can affect the loading.
I hope it helped.

Thank you, I would never had opened the wbs file with editor :)

Giant Earth Map ;)
Thanks Traianos.

So after I add GEM mod, how do I install A clash of Kingdoms 5.2? I opened the zip and it consists a folder named after it. Where do I paste it?

Sorry for asking obvious silly questions

Better to ask questions rather than getting stuck!

It is quite simple.
Unzip Clash of Kingdoms, drag and drop the folder under Beyondthesword>mods.
Then load civ 4 as you usually do and select load a mod, then pick Clash and you are done.

You do not need to directly load GEM to play it, neither you need to load Clash Wbs directly, as it would crash.

On the contrary, if you download also 1400 AD on GEM, the other scenario I created, that one is fully compatible with GEM, therefore you can also load it after loading up GEM.

I hope it helped.

Enjoy!

Traiano,

I am getting regular CTD with 5.2, presumably when Bulgaria is trying to approach me via Diplomacy. Also you cannot select Bulgaria as human player - causes CTD. Any solution?

Tomas

Btw: briliant mod, I enjoyed Bynzantium, when I wiped Bulgaria out.

Hi Tomas,

It sounds like a bizarre crash - I'm trying to say that nobody else experienced this one before. If you are correct in your assumption that the crash is triggered by the Bulgarian Leaderhead I could only suggest to check the LH folder. Is it possible you accidentally modified any xml file for that leaderhead? I take you cant even see the LH animation when you start the game and have to pick your civilization. If that is the case, the crash is indeed related to Ivan Asen's files.

If anything else comes to mind as the possible culprit I will pm you.

T.

p.s. the Bulgarian Lh name is BASIL if you are opening the folder and checking the xml.

the thing about Vlad dracule was, he was Romanian. At the time transylvania was it's own kingdom

Hehe, of course, I know. In fact the LH's name on this mod is Bela IV, King of Hungary.
The architecture of the castle in the back and the Lh clothes seemed fitting to represent an eastern european (Magyar in this case) civ. I had another couple of candidates but Vlad LH was by far the better looking.

Also, there isnt enough room on the map to add a Transylvania Principality Civ, even if we wanted to (and obviously Vlad lived during the 15th century).

I thought about including Transylvania on my other mod, 1400 AD on GEM, but even there there isnt really room for such a small civ, it would end up squeezed between the Ottoman Empire and the Byzantines.

Traiano,
Indeed it was the problem and third reinstallation solved it. I was missing about 10 files of "Basil". Do not ask me how. Sorry to bother.

Tomas

Considering people keeps downloading the scenario (we are close to 5000 downloads!) I'll release an updated version.

Several minor changes (city placements, better resources etc).
Removing one civ (County of Toulouse) and replacing it with the Archduchy of Austria - now the Holy Roman Empire is split between 4 civs (Austria, Bohemia, House of Welf and House of Hohenstaufen).
Adding the new wonderful Mindaugas LH as the LH of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Expanded isles/areas for Scotland and Norway.
Improved Crusaders presence in the Middle East.

Also added plenty of generic units (explorers, spies, missionaries) at game start, so that many civ have units close to areas where major events are taking place (Crusades, Mongols invading Kiev Rus and Kwarezmia etc) and are not left in the dark for the initial rounds of the game. Every civ should have some awareness with what is happening in the world, if it is in their area of influence or close to it.

Much improved version coming up!
