1861 ad

I had a problem with 2.8 and no user interface, tried everything to get it on but it wouldn't do it. I make a copy of the BUG4.4 mod, rename it to 1861AD then start copying everything folder by folder that the BUG doesn't have (Art, Leaderheads, Technologies, etc..) Then the folders that the original 1861 have I tried winmerge to update the xml but I've gotten everything working except I get a "UNITCOMBAT_SPY" not valid. So I have to track that down, plus some other smaller art details which are an easy fix. Almost done though.

Sounds great!

After you fix that problem, could you send me a copy of it? And what I can do then is first of all, put you on the author's list with full credit. Then what I can do is merge anything I have added. All I am adding the rest of the way is techs, buildings, and units. I may add a civic or two.

Now besides Bug 4.4 what else do we need to get revolutions up and running on here?

Also, I wonder where the UNITCOMBAT_SPY not valid derives from. It has to be something simple. Thanks Cripp, this is going to be a huge help. On the way to molding this version of GEM, I found alot of little issues, which I repaired along the way. Alot of it did not seem to be quite finished.

I had it installed right...I don't know much about modding so I think a file or something might of gotten corrupted or I tweaked it and threw the entire mod off. It looked like a great mod. I love the post-Civil War Pre-WWI era. It is probably my favorite warfare era. Can't wait for that other mod you mentioned. Hopefully that will work for me.

Yes, but it will be a little bit. I am still formulating stuff around in my head. To tell you the truth I am thinking of playing AoI 4.0 for civ 3. It's just the right time period, and should give me some good ideas, on how to proceed. LOL! I have modder's block! You know really, I just need to step back and take a break from it. I have made some changes, I will tell you what I am going to add the light brigade to Great Britain, and I will download an update. I wish I knew python, so I could have the textile mills, I added, create clothes. Turn cotton or sheep into clothes, like they did in the Total Realism mod for warlords.

Actually, I have v. 4.1, just have to get my disc out of the civ 3 complete box, how quaint!

I broke my Civ3 disk. It was a sad day for me. I hardly know how to mod games, but if I did I am sure I would help out. The only games I really ever modded was making skins for Stronghold 2 and making a few tweaks to RTW. I just got into modding my Civ4 games when other stuff started to get boring for me and I need stuff you keep my busy till CivV.

Me too man. I just hope this mod will be easily transferable to Civ V. I heard it is supposed to be easy to switch mods over. RTW road to war, good mod, lots of fun.

It would suck if it didn't. To start fresh and have to wait for a long time for good mods to roll out...But I am hopefully for Skunk's World War 1 Mod to be released for it. It looked so awesome.

Definitely, I have been waiting for his mod forever, in any form, and I will be using many of his units in this mod. He also just came out with Italian biplanes, and the Big Bertha! Now I have railroad arty and the big bertha. Plus he has a nice Russian arty piece I plan on using. I found some cool looking bunkers, I would like to add as well.

Pretty much, what I plan on doing is taking the units and techs from Jon Shafer's Great War mod, that I added alot to, and bring all that into this mod. First I have to finish this Imperial period that leads to WWI. I have to bridge everything together, and that's why I am taking my time, so I can decide how best to do that. I am just going to add some things, and go from there and tweek it as I go. First thing is that I want to brin out a few UU's for certain civs. Like I added the French Foriegn Legion for France. Now I want to add the Light Brigade for Britain. These units will be unique, and you will be able to build six of them. After that, I wanted to add Boer Commandos, and start on some techs that are going to bring us into the future. Things like Thermodynamics, and Refrigeration. Alot will be alocated to the research of aeronautics, and shipbuilding. I have to add Imperial Infantry, which will basically be early WWI troops, along with more modern arty systems, and mg's.

I have readded Electricity, and Textile Mill, and Colonial Admin, which gives you, a national wonder called National Empire, and building that gives you a Colonial Admin building in every city you own. The benefit is happiness, and lower maintenance costs.
I was thinking of making it so you have to have at least ten cities to build a National Empire. I borrowed the idea from the toal realism mod. I thought it fit well with what I am trying to portray here.

So how long do you think it will be before I can get my greedy lazy hands on this mod? I need to get my urge to play as Prussia out.

Oh you what would be cool, is if you could get balloons (Like actually recon balloons).

I do have recon balloons have you played version 2.8? I have alot done, but I have a ways to go. I have an early ballon, with an operational range of 4 or 5. Then I was going to make an advanced one with a range of 6 or 7, and then move on to the airship and zeppelin. After that early aircraft, Rumpler Taube and so on.

Really? Great, more awesomeness I can't have. *Slits wrist* I still can't figure out why it says Revolutions.ini. When I tried to take a screen shot, the thing froze my CP so I couldn't paste it. It really sucks. Ill try one more time. Could you try to stay on for like...20 minutes?

Hold off on download let me download what I have added it will take me like 25 minutes. I will call it version 2. 85. I will get back to you with a new link soon.

Okay thanks. I really appreciate this. Btw, I took the scenario file and put it in My Games file as suggested. This could be another problem compounded on the MAIN problem of that .ini file.

I am not sure about that problem. You see the Gem mod was like that before I started adding anything to it. I hear they are trying to merge Bullmod 4.4 to it, but that will not bring back revolutions.ini, or will it? I am not sure.

I know one thing, I just tried to play civ 3 as the Boers in the AoI v 4.1 and got destroyed. I refused to give France or Britain money, and they came quick and conquered me. They don't play around on there. The Boers only had two Commandos I used them trying to recapture Johannesburg. Not a good outing for me!

I am downloading the mod to atomicgamer, be back soon!

That's cool. My great great grandfather on my moms side was a Boer guerilla. His family was killed in a British Concentration camp. As soon as WWI broke out, he caught the first train to Berlin and signed up for the infantry. I have four of his journals and a picture album as well as his G98.

You can download it here my friend. Like I said this is a work in progress. I think I am going to stop and play for a bit.

That is wonderful about your great great grandfather. I am reading a book about the Boer War right now. It's called "To the Bitter End". Those journals must be very interesting reading. And you have his Gewehr 98. Those British were brutal, I think. Recently, I watched a movie called Breaker Morant, pretty good movie. Perhaps you could enlighten me with a story or two about your great great grandfather.

I am trying to read as much on the Boer War as possible, and soon I will add the techs and the Commando units, to the next update. Try this out the way it is so far, and let me know what you think. I will talk to you tomorrow or Monday, my fiance has to do some important homework on the PC. And have fun!

I will. Here. Ill post a section from his journal. Thankfully he wrote it in english. It would be a pain for me to translate Afrikaaner.

October 22, 1900

Today has been brutal on our raiding party. We attacked a small British detachment in the country side today. The standoff lasted only an hour or two (I could not tell due to my pocket watch catching a British bullet). We hid in the grass near the road as a group of thirty or forty British soldiers came into our line of fire. From the rocks I got a good vantage point and took the first shot. I struck a large fellow about 2 meters tall. As he fell, Hans crawled out of a small hole in the ground and fired off his C96 on fully automatic fire. Sadly, this bravery cost him his life. He was hit twice. The British began to form a firing line around an area of rocks near a brook that I had frequented while we made our encampment. Daine had us take positions near a small berm with various nooks and crannies to fire from. About an hour after the firing, Daine had us each take a small piece of dynamite. Our orders were to creep and fire to a range of about 30 meters from the British position. After about 300 meters of crawling, we got in range. The dynamite exploded and the British began to scuttle. I wanted to pursue them and kill those (Explictive) thieves, but ammunition is scare currently. We counted about 13 British dead and 2 wounded which we gave aid to. After words we sad down for a quick prayer to bury Hans as well as George. We could only bury the graves shallowly as we soon hit rock and the on coming storm forced us to rush our work. I can hear the coyotes scratching at the rocks, even from our encampment. The scary thing is that that could of been me. I am running out of ink and I am going to have to refill in the morning, so this will be all for the night. Hopefully this war of ours will end soon with a Boer Republic, and I can finally see my family again.
