Correct!!

Yes we are playing second week of April

Germany was unimpressed with the surprise British landing near Hamburg. :dunno: Massive waste of units and questionable objectives of the the unescorted 4-transport strong landing. I mean, what was the point, to begin with? Most destroyed units were AA Guns, which should not leave Britain at the time when Albion is loosing the air war. While Germans were busy in Norway (capturing Third Objective city Oslo, see first post), British could try to capture major German port and burn bunch of our aircraft by surprise frontal attack, but instead they have chosen just to land on the neighboring tile and wait to be killed.

The loss of 16 various units, badly needed in case of the looming German invasion of British isles, was a combination of outrageously strange British planning and quite predictable strong German response. No fewer than 10 Artillery units and 5 Stuka bomber wings paved the way of the complete annihilation of British. Most German attacks were carried with more than a 90% of winning odds, but we still managed to loose a precious Panzer unit, fresh from victories in Denmark invasion. But that was it. Otherwise the slaughter of British gave us lots of points towards our next Great General.

Naval support of the failed Hamburg raid was provided by two measly Submarines. Rest of the Royal Navy was lagging behind in the Channel. One of the above mentioned British Submarines was dispatched during our last turn by the well promoted U-boat, the second one died during the British last turn, trying to attack a U-boat protecting victorious dispatcher. Perhaps that saved Hamburg from the frontal assault, because German U-bouts blocked the coastal tile adjacent to Hamburg? That will at least explain the logic, but why there was no more ships around? Why the landing transports did not turn back after the failed naval engagements? This is like to remain a mistery, unless kiwitt feels like commenting later on :).

Air-support was non-existent for a plausible reason -- Luftwaffe so far completely defeated RAF in the Battle of Britain, to the point that British Military command gave up on building new planes, letting German bombers to destroy every major improvement in British countryside. With winter yielding to spring without any Soviet-Finnish Winter War and defeat of France ahead of the real life WW2 timeline -- British are left in the complete isolation right now. USA mostly cares about expanding their corporations and maintains a good level of trade with Germany, highlighting the inefficiency of British diplomacy

Overall this turn was a great boost to German morale! The only low point was the fact that 4 unprotected Transports were able to sail undetected in neutral Benelux waters, while we were busy with Norway . Looks like we should devote some planes for the routine reconnaissance roles from now on.

Elements of the Italian Tenth Army advanced into Egypt in "Operation E". The advance stopped at the Wheat fields outside of Alexandria. The Italians and one German division then dug in, fortified their positions, and awaited reinforcements and supplies. They created a line of fortified camps around the Alexandria, but unfortunately they were no match for the predictable British counter-attack which happened this turn.

The initial British assault would fall on Nibeiwa Camp, and it achieved complete surprise. Raggruppamento Maletti, or Maletti Group, under General Maletti, was an ad hoc formation consisting of 2,500 Libyan soldiers and 2 Artillery Units. The Italians were caught completely off guard and many did not even reach their trenches, including General Maletti, who was killed emerging from his tent. All the Italian units were slaughtered and their camps destroyed by the British in less than ten minutes. The Italian artillery fought on valiantly, firing on British and recording many hits, some at point-blank range - but none enough to stop the counter-attack. Only German division was spared the destruction by killing British Infantry unit.

Italians finally deployed some tanks in Egypt this turn, but the siege of Alexandria was stopped after this disaster, and all the attention was redirected to Cairo instead. Unlike Alexandria it is standing on the Desert tile, where all our units with Desert Warfare promotions might come handy.

German Stukas sunk CL Aurora in the port of London. Port attack feature works pretty well!

Last Norwegian city Bergen was captured and peace was signed. West Scandinavia civilization was not destroyed because the game was set on "require complete kill" and there are hidden spies from every nation somewhere on the map.

It is very surprising academia and kiwitt did not comment on the mysterious events in Leningrad and Montreal last turn. :mischief:

Not mysterious to us.

On this week in 1940, Hitler begins his Western offensive with the radio code word "Danzig," sending his forces into Holland and Belgium. On this same day, having lost the support of the Labour Party, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain resigns; Winston Churchill accedes to the office, becoming defense minister as well.

2,500 German aircraft proceeded to bomb airfields in Belgium and Holland and 16,000 German airborne troops parachuted into Low Countries. A hundred more German troops, employing air gliders, landed and seized the Belgian bridges across the Albert Canal. The Dutch army was defeated in five days. One day after the invasion of Belgium, the garrison at Fort Eben-Emael surrendered, outmanned and outgunned by the Germans.

The Dutch and Belgian governments immediately appealed to Britain for help. Neville Chamberlain pleaded to Parliament that a coalition government, of Liberals and Labour, would be necessary to generate support for a war effort, especially given the lethargy that infected Britain, still reeling from World War I. Labour demonstrated no support for Chamberlain, preferring Churchill, who they thought better able to prosecute a war. As one member of Parliament put it: "Winston—our hope—he may yet save civilization." Great Britain had finally come to take the Nazi threat seriously.

This was my first turn when I was able to defeat a civ in single turn Blitz campaign! Feels awesome :p

Italian armour detroyed in the desert :D

Tough Italian biker boys avenged the death of Italian Armor in desert. But overall British defenses in Egypt look pretty strong. Should Mussolini ask Germany for Panzergruppe Afrika to assist, or Italians will be able to handle British by their own? Next turn will show!

Grand Italian offensive was postponed for one more turn. Things are getting pretty hot in Egypt during the last week of the Spring 1940...

Unbeknowst to the AXIS forces, the British Empire has managed to get the beginnings of the ANZAC forces from Australia and New Zealand to assist British forces fighting in the desert. The first of the forces was the HQ unit of the I AUS corps (a Machine Gunner) and this will be supported by 4 additional Australian and NZ divisions (Infantry Units). Whether it will be enough to turn the tide is unknown at this stage as they are very "green" troops, but have high morale.

House Rule Update: Britain is permitted to transfer via Airlift, 1 Machine Gun and 4 Infantry Units to reflect the fact that the ANZAC forces had come via the hidden Indian Ocean route. Britain can not airlift any other forces across the Atlantic from Canada.

Across Atlantic must be dropped IMO, Canadians did send sizable number of troops. You need to have the need to cross Atlantic with your Transports so that I could sink them with my Subs. Battle of Atlantic is one of my favorite events in the War. My wolfpacks see no targets right now.

I am fine with 4 more airlifts to Egypt from anywhere though...

kiwitt did you get my May.4 turn?

It was mixed in other emails and forgot - GPS

Greatest and ill-fated Italian offensive in Egypt (Alexandria direction) this turn! Everything was against us, not a single ship, not a single artillery was able to hit the target, we forgot to use our plane in Tobruk to soften up defenders but, frustrated, charged anyways. Best nine units died to kill 4 defenders, but even after German help Alexandria still holds thanks to city militia (very interesting feature of this mod which generates additional defenders from city population points in certain situations).

English fleet, carelessly parked within the range of German Stukas, lost famous Carrier Ark Royal this turn, as well as some Transport.

First victory by Italians! Alexandria has finally fallen. Mussolini has shown total disregard for losses in his 10th and 8th Armies, Italians lost close to 2.5 units for every British unit killed. Even though British Mediterranean fleet was cowardly hiding around Cyprus Italian Regia Marina was very ineffective in their shore bombardment. Likewise Italian artillery could not score any hits for the 3rd turn in a row. Italian aviation was represented by one Fighter Wing only and helped a little. So this Pyrrhic victory was largely owned to poorly equipped Italian foot soldiers. Italian command can also claim some credit: our forces were able to threaten both Cairo and Alexandria, forcing British to split forces. Overall very important development for Axis. Luftwaffe was ordered to arrive to Mediterranean in order to assist in sinking of British fleet here.

British fleet at Home was still stack at harbor in Plymouth, so more losses from German Stukas was inevitable. Carrier Courageous was decimated in pieces, other few remaining ships suffered serious damages. Small German fleet took in control of the High Seas and was bold enough to harass Northern Ireland even!

THE OPERATION "RESTORED HONOR" HAS BEGUN!

After years of so-called independence of the Grand Duchy of Finland, and several frustrated diplomatic attempts to bring them back to our glorious soviet empire, our beloved leader Stalin decided that it was time to put an end to this travesty and reclaim what is ours by divine right (yeah... despite the fact that we are an atheist secular state).
