So this was probably my 10th or so attempt at Diety, 3rd time with Germany. WOWZA.

GERMANY is AMAZING.

First its UA - Pluses you like mad in the first 100 turns. I had a sizeable defensive force and I NEVER built a UNIT. From my starting warrior and upgrades - I united the brutes under one flag. I had a horseman, swordsman, 3 hand axes, 2 warriors, 3-4 archers. Since I took Honor and Patronage - I made a LOT of Friends QUITE quickly. Through liberty finisher I took great merchant and made even MORE friends!

UB - HANSE

When productions is just starting to pick up - Germany BOOMS! just trade with some city states and look at the Hanse boost to ur cities. It gives more than Religious Community!

UU

Panzer - have a tank with 10 extra strength really gives peace of mind. Also know a strength 80 tank would technically go up against a combat strength 70-90 city.

Religion and Germany

Completely Ignored Religion - Found it best to grow and produce. Building shrines and temples seemed like a waste. Since I was making friends with City states - no happiness issues. Bought one Pagoda from England's religion the entire game... for 1000 faith.

Victory Type

To me Space is easiest/safest route. I could have done Diplo but it just felt cheap. Cultural - take too long like watching paint dry.

Why Freedom with Germany? So Innacurate?

One word: TREATY ORGANIZATION with HANSE - wowza!!!
saves money, makes money, more culture, food, happiness, allies, and science!!! Need I say more?

TIPS TO MAKE THE MOVE FROM IMMORTAL TO DIETY

SELL UR VOTES

Planned on voting for international games? Great just sell those votes for the yes. makes easy 300-600 cash. I sold votes for world leader, voted India to be the host all for TONS OF CASH.

MICROMANAGE!

Every tile counts. buy sparingly but to best advantage. I didnt do so much managing at the end but at the beginning is when it matters the most.

COME IDEOLOGIES - FOR PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR

First Half of the game - Bribe Bribe Bribe!
Second Half - Built Highly skilled and technologically advanced troopset.
Japan was the ultimate warmongerer - make sure to prepare for war come ideologies. Theres a lot of hate then. Just make a huge navy and army. Then AIs think twice.

Please leave tips, comments, criticisms and congratulations! :)

That's awesome, congrats GK!

I really like the new Germany a lot. The Hanse makes cities super productive and a lot of fun to play. They're a very well designed civ now. Kind of underrated. The barb conversion saves a lot of hammers for that self defense army you need in the early game which really relieves the choked early build queue after the expansions. The UA and UB combination translates into a lot of gold and hammers late game. The Panzer doesn't matter much on lower diffs but the AI stays competitive on deity and the strong UU helps out.

You can have Peaceful SV with 4 archers.
Caravans to AI ensure you DoF, science, cash and peace to T70-100 (function off the map).
After bribes. I you have a backstabber like Oda in you neighborhood. Bribes as many AI as you can against him. Sometimes his empire falls enough to be cool until the end.
Or just build a nuke.
Go order for SV. Freedom is a bad choice : no happiness and no science boost. And this, despite Hanse.
Boost your faith. It from 2 to 4 free GS after finishing rationnalism.
I'm not a huge fan of Patronage. Commerce to Mercantilism is what I use to play, Exploration to Maritime infrastructure if I have a coastal empire.
And last, put Sejong or Alex in your map. There are two time clock to improve your speed. ;)

Germany with Freedom (Arsenal of Democracy and Treaty Organization) is an absolute beast. I noticed this as early as two days after the beta Fall Patch.

Congrats :).
I have also been toying with Germany/Treaty Org, but for Diplo.
Nice game, gotta love them Hanses, right :)

How do one collect 8 :c5food: from ... tundra!

It's a city tile, so the 8 food would include bonuses from city states, tradition, etc.

A Great Merchant from Liberty Finisher ... was that really best possible pick?

So normally people go for engineer for the wonder - at that exact time I didnt have a wonder necessarily timed. Instead I took the merchant to Ur did the boost and sent Ur the gold. Then I had some leftover to complete trades/quest. The Great Merchant let me solidify Ur as a ally and at that point I had Wellington and Byblos.

In addition I was able to save up more gold to ally Buenos Aires and Florence as my city state allies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The City tile of 8 food and 2 production is from like 6 maritime allies and liberty hammer.

Small Question: I was able to hard build the CN Tower, Porcelain Tower, Sydney Opera House, Cristo Redentor, Brandenburg, Pentagon, Broadway, Statue of Liberty (this makes sense India took freedom late), and Hubble. I only ever used one great engineer on Neuschwanstein. Is this normal for Diety when you have a tech lead? Or is this just because the HANSE be providing the 30 % production lead? Or is it because Im awesome? (lol jk). I just want to know if this is indicative of Japan crushing most other AI and not being a wonder whore. Also did I win science since Hiwatha is not in the game?

Freedom - Y sooo goood? I almost never want to take Order. Civil Society, Treaty Org, and New Deal make me never want to stray from Freedom.

But I have realized I have optimized my play style around Freedom - pass historical landmarks, build lots of academies, make landmarks, etc.

What civ/play style is suited for Order? Any tips? Any playstyle tips?

Omg, that stale against Japan army is awesome :

That was a funny part of the game. Oh hey look u got that infantry? well I got a Mech Infantry. Oh u like ur sub? How about my nuclear sub? lol. Also I took the 6 foreign legions on my way to take media culture and they soon became mech infantry.

It can be sometimes. It comes just around the time that city states are going to ask for luxuries, faith, and culture, and you can cascade becoming ally with one city state into more influence with others.

30 influence + 500 gold isn't that great. 30 influence + 500 gold + 40 influence with a second city state is getting somewhere.

It doesn't appear you were microing tiles or specialists at all, why is that? I find it cuts 40 to 50 turns off a finish at least.

Tiles

Early game: I micro tiles all the time.
Late Game: With soo many pop in the cities I micro if necessary.

Specialists
I honestly never micro specialist. I like to get secularism(+2 for specialist) with Statue of Liberty(+1 prod for specialist) and civil society so specialist consume less food. I find in general the computer does a fine job of that.

Is there something I am not gaining by not microing specialists?

Well you need to work university specialists as soon as you get them obviously to maximise science, and if you work the wrong specialist slots you're at risk of spawning the wrong great people. (It also slows down growth, 36 pop capital is pretty low for turn 326 especially with freedom)

I agree. The irony is simply though that Germany is The Superior Leader of "NATO" in civ5 :D

Don't forget to subsidize your CS allies' defence forces either, with arsenal of democracy policy.

It's funny at least, because it's resembles kind of, how Germany exports it's arms in European nato countries in modern day real life! Although, of course the intent of the policy was to make reference to Roosevelt's cashandcarry policy from WW2 (that's where the name comes from, from Roosevelt's famous speech)

those panzers... send them rolling... to your allies military arsenals and your enemy's cities.

Germany has synergies with all three ideologies. Autocracy and Panzers is pretty obvious, and with Order you can get extra hammers that get multiplied by your Hanse and of course extra Panzer production with the Kremlin. Which is kind of appropriate considering Germany actually has had all three ideologies in the 20th century.

Ive always been hesitant to play Germany but based on your recommendation I'm giving it a go! 100 turns in it's actually been really fun not having to worry about building a mini army to dissuade the warmongers from attacking. The other added benefit was I've managed to build 2 ancient wonders, which I generally never get to do in Deity since my capital has to build units early on.

I prefer domination victories and I'm a bit sceptical about the usefulness of panzers as the UU. My preference is to push with artilleries, bombers then nukes. Will see how it goes.

Man, I love freedom, it my go to Ideology if I'm not pushing anything specific (like order with Russia :D), I like how it boosts your GP production, and lowers their costs, but one of my favorite parts is capitalism: 1+ happiness for every market, bank and stock exchange? Providing that nothing has gone horribly wrong within this game, that usual nets me about 15-25 extra happiness, when when combined with the other happiness booster, almost eliminates the happiness decrease from founding new cities
