That's José Rizal, Filipino folk hero.

I LOVE that they gave Frederick his hat and cane. It's based on my fave portrait on his by Camphausen:

While this looks nice, Fritz is famous for never sitting down for having someone paint him and always complained how all portraits look nothing like him. Didn't stop him from sending portraits to other people all the time.

Edit: it's actually quite fun to read his musings about how he looked.
There is so much talk about the fact that we terrestrial kings are made in the image of God. Then I look in the mirror and am obliged to say to myself: How unlucky for God!

oh my god they actually gave Himiko two personas

Where was this taken from?

I absolutely loathe the Persona system....I want more new leaders, not simple reskins. I don't care if they have new abilities. If it means less leaders by the end of the Civ7 development cycle, I'm angry. Himiko didn't need two.

I guess Jose Rizal is nice, but we got three Southeast Asian Civs with no leaders, and two Southeast Asian leaders without their corresponding Civs. I hope the Khmer, Majapahit and Siam get relevant leaders in due time. I don't see the appeal of playing the Khmer as Ben Franklin or Harriet Tubman......

I bet that’s intentional, trying to give some playable representation to as many places as possible within the era system limits.

:nods vigourously:

it's out of our hands now, sadly.

Firaxis will still add more leaders in future DLCs. So the Persona system will not take away from having new leaders. But the Persona system adds more variety and flexibility which is a good thing. What if you like a leader but you wish they had different abilities? The Persona system does that. It let's players who like a certain leader, still play as their fav leader but with different abilities to change things up. And it adds more historical flavor since leaders often did have different sides to their rule. For example, Napoleon was known for both his military prowess but also many political and civil reforms. The Persona system allows the game to reflect both sides.

They also got the colors right for once: "Prussian Blue" was a cheap artificial (mineral-based, in fact) dye that gave a dull blue-gray, and the red used was madder red that is more of a bright brick color than a true bright red. Fred was somewhat notorious for not taking care of his uniform, though, so the coat should be spotted with snuff stains/powder, which was remarked on by contemporaries. Frederich never looked much like a king until you noticed the army following him . . .

I used to have a shirt with the Camphausen portrait on it. Wore that poor thing to shreds.

Except it’s up to Firaxis to decide which leader gets such treatment, and players have no say in that. If someone likes Ben Franklin, but would like to lean more into either science or diplomacy aspects of his career - then tough luck. Enjoy two Napoleons instead.

If anything, I see the memento system fulfilling your described use case better than personas.

I just don't think Queen Himiko deserves a second persona, considering what little we know about her. Give it to Hatshepsut, Catherine or Isabella instead.

True. Obviously, Firaxis cannot do 2 personas for every single leader so they pick and choose. I do think that the Personas system started off as a marketing gimmick but I guess Firaxis liked it so much that they decided to expand on the idea.

I agree. Isabella should've gotten the second persona instead (if we must). MEME ISABELLA LOOOOOVES HER NATURAL WONDERRRRRRRS.

pathetic.

I think the Persona system is heavily influenced by development costs, since they can recycle the voice actor, animations, and a large part of the leader model.

I think the thing is that it's not a question of "A second Himiko persona or a new leader" though. The persona system allows the devs to give us a lot more options at lower cost of dev-time. Like, I definitely want more leaders as well, but the persona system lets them expand the roster in a relatively easy way, and I'm happy to see them continuing it here if it means more options for how to play the game.

that’s an AMAZING leader choice. Philippines would make an amazing modern civ down the line too.

Himiko for personas is absurd though. What will her personas even do?
