2011 MLB Thread

more shutout innings from the mythical Clifton Phifer :)

ps - lee is having a better year than snaggle tooth lincecum :p

I don't judge pitchers based on one year's performance. And lee is only a hair better this year anyway

At least wish Lee well in the playoffs, he may let his hair grow out until then :mischief:

Maybe he should learn to hit the ball :mischief:

Besides Cole Hamels is the king of no run support. He has only one like once if the other team scored more then 2 runs. That's why the Fox broadcasters put this in the pregame scouting report.

Nope, that award belongs rightfully to the Madbum. You can't help but feel bad for him when you take one look at that record of his :(

He is sort of a phenomenon. I remember when he was kind of sucky on the Indians, the guy you picked up off the waiver wire one week in Fantasy and were instantly disappointed with. He totally transformed himself at a very late age.

I have a soft spot for him cos I picked him up off the waivers (whilst an Indian) in our 2008 fantasy league. He didn't disappoint me :)

Given that was in the AL, where you aren't getting a free out every 9th batter, then I think his 2008 season was even more impressive than what he's turning in this year (which is undoubtedly damn impressive).

for the sake of being Fair & Balanced, i must comment on the fact that Clifton Phifer Lee failed to run out a groundball in an AB against the reds the other day :) good thing he was on the road when he loafed like that! video is here, a few clicks down the page.

some other interesting news: King of All D-Bags Frank McCourt offered $1.2B for the dodgers. sell! sell! be gone!!! scum!

What's his record and runs per game? I simple link to Baseball Reference would be fine. Because honestly I have no idea who that is...

So you are claiming to be the Fox News of supporters here? Fair and balanced? Yeah right. :mischief:

Who ever said sports fans are fair and balanced? Just look at the Philies and Red Sox attendance records. ;)

BTW I feel insulted that you would ever compare me to anything as disgusting as Fox News. /jk :p

If that was the CFC league, you may have picked him up after I dropped him.

Madison Bumgarner of the Giants has a 9-12 record right now with a 3.43 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. His record is so awful almost entirely because of his terribad run support which in July was 2.64, and at one point was as low as 1.8.

3.43 ERA with xFIP at 3.17 is kinda high, however he has been hit with some bad luck with BABIP at .326. The really low HR/FB rate however is distributing hovering at only 6.0%. He's a decent pitcher but I'd expect him to only get maybe like a 13-9 record at best, 9-12 is not at all unlikely for someone of his skills.

His ERA and possibly also his xFIP have been also skewed by 2 or 3 ridiculously (and I really do mean ridiculously) bad starts.

So basically what your saying is that he's a competent pitcher who is plagued by inconsistency. This essentially makes him a weaker version of Cliff Lee who is only 15-7 last time I checked so I still say his ceiling would be 13-9 or something of that nature.

Besides if Cole Hamels got the run support the other pitchers of the Phils get (3rd in NL since May 20th, 1st since Hunter Pence trade) he would be 18-2 right now.

The only difference being, of course, that he's a good 10-15 years younger than both of those guys.

He's 18? Hamels is only 28 IIRC.

Edit: Hamels is 27 so I doubt your guy is more then 5 years younger then him.

Wow, Hamels is much younger than I thought he was. Madbum is 20 or maybe 21 iirc.

Those were in the beginning of the year. Since then he has been pretty good, consistently. 3.41 ERA in the modern era is not that bad, anyway.

Ya Hamels is really young for how good he is (A lot of people say he's the most important person in the organization because of this) but damn 21 as a starter is pretty impressive.

Intrusting fact about Hamels. He never spent a day in AA he went from A+ to AAA and then the MLB all in the same year.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because of how good my teams starters are.
