... who plays over the internet? Especialy since FfH and FF have OSS problems?

On a related note, if you're teaching world history, Europa Universalis 3 would be a better choice, at least during it's timeframe, and esp. for Europe (obv)

Yeah but the learning curve of EU3 is so steep, I doubt most of the students will be able or willing to play EU3. Plus Kael is the Civ series liaison, not EU :p

Amusingly, playing the original civ when I was a youngin gave me an interest in old wonders/civilizations, I always did well in social studies because of that.

It all started with the Caesar games for me and then went to Civ. I have been a history bum from then on...

A lot of the changes do not bring anything good if you ask me, and it would just take them years to perfect FfH to work with it.

All the changes are quite minor. It doesn't take a that long time to upgrade the *.dll.

Not to mention that the I can't seem to stop my Steam version from updating :-(

I do, and a lot of time. FFH rarely have OOC issues. It's hard to start a game with various firewall and ctds for those involved. but once it stats it's OK. I've had OOC in 1/3 of all games , and you can always just reload the game.

I was taken by surprise by this. Just noticed patch 3.19 right now and Im downloading it. I was in Utah and Texas for most of this week and Im flying to Georgia tomorrow (going onsite to help a school use Civ4 to teach high school history).

It may not be updated until later this week since my flight leaves in 11 hours. But it will be high on my todo list when I get back Thursday.

I for one am just glad to hear anything from you - I started getting scared something bad happened in RL.

Sounds like a worthwhile diversion!

Best wishes,

Breunor

Sounds like one lucky school!

In regards to Eu3, best history based game ever created imo. The only games I play these days are Eu3, Eu:Rome, FFH, Civ4.
See a common trend? :P

If you want to teach history with a game, EU might be the way, but not EU3, EU2 which is more deterministic, and so have a more plausible historical outcome (better with mods like AGC-EEP). But it would also depend on what history you would teach. The EU series is somewhat poor in teaching about ancient Greece or China for example.
It certainly have been done before, I know of at least one Swedish school that used EU2 as a teaching tool (and some of the EU regulars have also used it in teaching).

If you ask me, there is no reason to go for 3.19 ever. A lot of the changes do not bring anything good

I can think of several things in the patch that will help FFH:

- Fixed bug with AI not knowing how close its cities are to other players
Anything that helps the AI place cities better has to be good. Although Kael may have already fixed this in FFH...
- AI evacuates ships and planes from cities in danger
Help with naval warfare is always a plus.
- AI no longer joins Great People to cities in danger
I am not sure how often this comes up, but it sounds especially nice for the Sidar.
- Moved some gamecore-specific code into the DLL
I could be completely wrong, and the patch notes are not clear what is moved to the DLL, but doesn't this mean that certain things that could not be edited are now editable? That could open up a lot of doors for FFH.

Not really since the Ai doesn't wane.

Im loving the changes, I didnt have a lot of time to look through them before I left. But the graphics functions that were moved into the DLL were by far the most exciting part. Im looking forward to playing with them when I get back.

Interesting. On a related note I happen to live in Georgia AND Alabama. Nifty :3

as an environmentalist, I fully support incorporating nuclear weapons as living biological beings. Its BIO-economy :)

SHENANIGANS!!!

Also, with the apparently newly-editable shtuff, I suspect the sudden and merciless arrival of computer-destroying shiny things.

Would this new patch be the key to unlock features addition for FfH? :p

Isn't FFH the most popular mod for civ4?

I always find it weird when companies put in a bunch of mod support initially, but then seem to keep the key modders out of the loop when they push patches. Why would you not push your patch out a week early just to your top modders to get their feedback before you push it to the world?

Also as other have said, steam forces you to update.

Oh well, this last week I have learned that I really suck at base civ4. I can not even keep up on monarch!

How are you supposed to handle the dreaded stack of doom that includes a billion cats when you do not have assassins?

Base civ4 just feels so dull after FFH and FF.

Firaxis is awesome for involving the community and has been incrediably nice to the team and I. This patch just took me by surprise.

Nice to I?

So, what specific gamecore code was into the DLL, and what can we expect that will mean to FfH?
