3 grams - Prodigal Son's

Hmmm. Although there's a degree of risk involved, it might be worth bringing the knight army up even though it has only one knight in it, and look for an easy French kill, maybe a RL spear in the open or something. Then Sala could start on HE before the fighting really starts getting heavy.

Skim settlers to fill in so we can release the Mongols and release troops for the assault on Joan? Why attack the Aztecs other than their foothold on our continent? Spain would seem to be a better target after Joan. We can grab 2 lux if we do the invasion right and get Dad to help. possible conquest order: Logorno, poiters, seville, Murcuria, Pampalona? Random thoughts for consideration.

Chief Bede Joseph sat his spotted war pony in the mountains above Cattraugus and surveyed the realm. His vision emcompassed many troops of mounted warriors and mace wielders playing lacrosse in the hills and bocce on the plains, bowstrings slack, ponies fat, maces rusting in the humid air from the marshes.....

A large black fly spotted a juicy landing spot in a white spot on the pony's rump and dropped in for a quick bite, the pony bolted and Chief Bede wailed a war cry, the idle warriors quickly caught their ponies and strung their bows and so began the Second French and Indian war.....

In short order the French town of Besancon near the indigo plantations was reduced to rubble, Dijon was held by Iroquois warriors and maces and the formerly idle troops were marching into the environs of Amiens where they encountered Dad's samurai and a Japanese settler. An Iroquois settler quickly hustled to the rubble of Besancon and built a new town while another settler hurried out of Kauwaka to claim land envied by the Mongols.

The many colored coats avaibale for sale in the bazaars of the homeland made the people happy, though Dad was highly annoyed at the brazen display of fashion during war-time and left the territory.

Not long after the last two French towns visible on the home island fell to the advancing Iroquois.

During the parades and parties which followed the swift victories (complete by 600AD) the trespassing Aztecs had the temerity to demand a delivery of silk cloth. When the ambassador's arrow aerated remains arrived at their capitol wrapped in purple silk, Monte declared war and sent a Jaguar and settler accompanied by muskets into the northlands. The muskets were quickly eliminated by trebuchet rush produced out of the northern cities and knight attacks. Then, to his horror, Chief Bede noticed the smokestacks sprouting from the Aztec town and the rifles in the garrison.

An Aztec cavlaryman galloped out of the town and attacked Ganogeh killing a newly knighted warrior but was killed during his attempt to retreat back to Tula. Knights, maces and trebuchets then marched on Tula from Oka and are now positioned on the hills above the town.

A luxury trade with Dad expired just at the right time and he is supporting our war against the Aztecs for silks and gems. The treasury has been depleted by the need to upgrade warriors to knights, the rushed production of trebuchets and an increase in science spending to acquire Gunpowder.

The Forbidden Palace completed right on time and the western lands are becoming more lucrative.

The single knight army is positioned at Oil Springs as the Aztecs have a galleon parked offshore of Susquehanna.

Spain will be quite a stretch (distance + ferry), while the aztec's are right across the lake. we won't be ready for spain for quite some time (must build/rush galleys, then move N), thus fall further behind in tech.
my thinking was that we go after the aztecs, get 2 or 3 towns (or a dozen :) )then peace for techs. we are way behind and cannot afford to wait for enough galleys to be built and moved N to go after spain, plus, the walk for the knights is extremely long and I don't think we can maintain the empire from that distance. imho, get the Aztecs, then Mongols, then spain. Ferry is short and we can keep pushing in only 1 direction. We get 1 more lux with France, and Aztec's probably have 1 as well.

edit: i see the aztec's have learn nationalism. this task just got tougher. we still must press the attack, just need more trebuchet's, but don't wait too long

Nice work Brother Bede.

A couple of questions?

1. I can't tell from the maps, is there much land left on our island to the NW?
2. Have we signed peace with France yet? What did we get?
3. What's being researched and how long until it's done?
4. What's the current roster and who's up?

Since we're at war with the Aztecs, we should make a solid effort to depose the Aztecs from the island. The sooner we own the complete island, the safer we'll be from future invasions.

sorry, i'm falling down on the job :) i'll let bede answer those specific questions since he was the last to play.

Roster 24hrs got it, 72hrs play it

1) Just a little corner now occupied by Isabel and her dog, Ty.
2) Joan has not paid her "visit of submission" yet.
3) 4 or 5 turns to Gundpowder at maximum
4) What he (g-man) said.

got it. what's the consensus on the army? Will keep going for firesticks, await the visit of submission.

Would be nice to keep the army transportable. We should have enough knights/MW to handle the Aztecs on the island without it.

Halfway thru, lookin' for advice.

Recon: no changes.

IT: Celts and Aztecs sign TE (they'e evil). Aztec fleet sails to volcano; if only it would go boom. Palace expansion. Entremont finishes Newtons. Dad, Theo, Monte building Shake's.

1) 660: Trebs close on Tula.

IT: Aztecs sailing further west.

2) 670: Battle of Tula. Trebs go 3-2. One each conscipt and regular rifle garrision. Both RL by trebs. Without much fuss we capture Tula.

IT: pirates sink a galley as it moved north. Aztec fleet sails west out of sight. Attila building Shake's.

3) 680: Nuttin'.

IT: Aztec fleet momentarily reappears on west coast.

4) 690: drop science to50% (GP in 2)

IT: Monte brings in Attila. Aztec LB lands at Paris. Mongol warrior near Dijon captures worker. Izzy building Shake's.

5) 700: drop science to 30%. Give Dad 90g, 20gpt to help with Attila.

Strategically, I'm lost. We have no way to transport our meager army to Monte's homeland with our 3 galley navy. There are privateers sailing around that would eat the navy as a nice light brunch. a six unit invasion force would also get gobbled up. There's nothing in Monte land to gain except that German word that I can't spell (Lebensomething). I've been moving the troops north. We can upgrade some pikes when GP arrives. Thinkin' of changin' Oka and the other east coast cities that are currently building pikes to boats. Dad should stomp Attila. No worries there. As far as research: follow the low road to MT? Joan has a galley off our east coast, but she's obviously not into submission as no offer to talk yet. Haven't messed with Bro Bede's builds too much. Where are the settlers going? Thinking of using one to replace Tula and another in the jungle near Dijon.

Lookin' for direction.

if we sit still, we're dead. sending the army over on only 3 boats is suicide, though. build more. send 12, fill 6. the army will act as cover when you land so we should be ok there. hold the fort while more treb's, etc are shuttled over. we're falling behind too much and action is necessary. imho, we've waited a too long in going after the aztecs but we have to live with this error. what's the other option, spain? are they really all that easier? by the time we get there, they'll have all 1st tier IA techs too.

Here's an idea we've all heard before. What about the Great Library?

If Theodora built in on a coastal city, we might be able to land our invansion force there and take the city. If we could hold it for a single turn we'd gain instant tech parity. Then we could put our size to work and start out producing our neighbors.

@ Denyd: Adrianople has the GLib, and is the first city Byz builds after Constantinople, so it's part of her core. Adrianople is not on the coast from what I see.

Dad will sell his WM for 20gpt, best offer.

we will need to buy a WM to find out, unless the admiral has added something new since the 550AD save. right now, i can't see it.

i admit that my advice is not very good and this game looks grim. perhaps we drop the requirement that we cannot initiate peace talks, as it seems the AI is more mum that i'd like.

sell our dyes to japan (build a colony on the 2nd to keep the lux tax down) and we can get a WM. don't sign peace or sell dyes till gunpowder is done, so japan can give us a lot of gpt and help us research to MT. if we do want to take a shot at the GLib city (which sounds like fun :) )

btw, rush a settler in Oka and raze/replace Tula 1T N or NE so we have a nice shuttle over to Tlaxcala. Then we can fill all our 12 boats to the brim before sending over. We can also re-arrange Oka NE so we have a 3T hop from Mystic to Oka to another town yet to settle. Moving Oka and getting another town between it and Tlaxcala's replacement should allow us to hop galleys along the coast.

Sorry, but you posted the save and i had to look :) Little Big horn is emphasizing food, why? we need that market, not more people. work the forest and a hill to get 23 turns off the build. Get some workers over there and improve the terrain. it's a core town, let's concentrate on it instead of working another hill that Oil Springs can't use or a hill near highly corrupt Paris. It's imperitive that the core be improved for shields because we're killing ourselves otherwise.

edit: i also don't understand why we have only 3 galleys on an arch map. please correct this as best you can admiral. we don't need another pike right now, we need ships. a phony war with spain is fine, as long as we limit it to Teruel and the other town on our landmass. maybe they'll forfeit gold or techs after we raze those towns.

Navy additions got delayed when trebs were needed against Tula, swap east coast cities back to galleys and rush and try for a landing on Aztec coast from the remains of Tula.

We could hit Spain and take two towns in the Northwest and that would have the advantage of getting everybody but the Byzantines at war. We were looking for WW1 and it looks like we are getting there.

I'm disinclined to move cities at this late date. The Glib idea sounds like fun. I'll try to get shields up in the core. Saw a lot of irrigation and went with it. Thanks for the input. I now will go back and see if I can find hat to pull a rabbit out of.

admiral, those towns are junk. we should move them if it gets us safe passage. i'll post a screenie on what i mean soon.

edit: this is what i'm talking about. Mystic, Allegany, New Oka can rush galleys. Oka's not exactly the best town and i'll gladly sacrifice the harbor and barracks if that means safe passage for the ships.

@ gram - played before I saw your last post. My alternative should work ok.

Sense of purpose regained.

5) 700 (con't): stop deforestation of jungle at Amiens. Send slave to build dye colony. Adrianople out of reach for now. Change Ganogeh to settler after disbanding warrior there. Intend to rush settler there next turn. Paris remains ungarrisoned to attract landings. MW stack hovers near Paris to kill things. Change D. Tower to settler.

IT: Joan wants to talk. Get Theology, Republic, 2g for peace.

6) 710: Drop research to 20% Rush settler at Ganogeh. Swill spirits.

IT: Dad's caravel sinks Aztec frigate in the south. Shaman proclaim this is omen on the outcome of the war. Firesticks in. Chem in 9 @ 50%

7) 720: Dad sells Education and Chemistry for dyes, 111g, 83gpt. Now researching Metallurgy (science @ 0%, due in 50)

IT: Aztec frigates doing nuisance shelling. Joan and Dad hook up v. Monte.

Nothing until 740 when Tula abandoned and Schuykill founded.

IT: Trade Theo TM for TM + 80g. Paris burns, my bad.

10) Lots of moves left. Turning over to Denyd (I think).

Now have a better feel for this game. Keep research down and buy from Dad and do pointy stick until we catch up. Most of the military is in the NE. Navy is building on the east coast. Dad is moving longbows down the west lands. No idea where they are going. May want to garrison Paris. Dad is gracious. He should be at the rates we're paying.
