3CC AW PTW Monarch

I will try and get to it tomorrow if no one else does

Take it now if you can. I just played, I'm not going to play again, Tassle isn't playing civ at all, and killerkid can't play right now. You're the only one who can play this set.

Done, Quite a bad set of turns

Spoiler :
Changed all cities production to Immortals For Defense.

I guess I'm up. Got it. I'll continue the endless building of Immos and Knights and try to fight these attacks off.

We must pillage China's Iron! Once they lack iron, spears will be their highest defense unit.

Okay, I've got some good news and I've got some bad news.

Good News:
-We got a leader!

Bad News:
-We won't be able to use him. Pasargadae was captured, and all of our offensive units have been killed.

So, anyway, here's what happened:

Pre-Turn (1250 AD):
-I send the Scientist in Persepolis back to work. Now that we’re putting money into research, he doesn’t serve much of a purpose, and I actually GAIN a turn on Chemistry by making this change.

IBT:
-So… Many… AI units…
-Pasargadae: Immo->Immo
-Rome Completes Sun Tzu. Great, we’re gonna start seeing Veteran MDI’s and Legions.

Turn 1 (1255 AD):
-Attack a Roman Stack:
-Knight kills Legion
-Immo kills Legion
-Immo dies on MDI
-Knight kills MDI (3-1)

IBT:
-One of the tiles near Pasargadae gets pillaged. I’ve never understood the AI’s obsession with pillaging.
-Barb Horse dies on Immo
-Susa: Immo->Immo

Turn 2 (1260 AD):
-Knight kills Roman MDI
-Immo kills Celtic MDI (5-1)
-Horses Reconnected.

IBT:
-An invincible Celtic MDI redlines our Pike in Pasargadae before dying, thus allowing GS’s to kill a Knight and an Immo. :mad: (6-3)
-Persepolis: Knight->Knight
-Pasargadae: Immo->Immo

Turn 3 (1265 AD):
-Knight kills Chinese Spear (7-3)
-Immo forces GS to retreat (cowards)
-Knight kills GS (8-3)

IBT:
-A Celtic Knight pillages the road that allows our troops to quickly attack China.
-Speaking of China, Mao wants peace. Sorry, but no.

Turn 4 (1270 AD):
-Kill 2 Chinese MDI’s and force a Roman Knight to retreat. (10-3)

IBT:
-Roman Knight dies on the Pike in Pasargadae. (11-3)
-Pasargadae: Immo->Immo
-Susa: Immo->Immo

Turn 5 (1275 AD):
-Knight kills Celtic Knight (12-3)

IBT:
Zzz

Turn 6 (1280 AD):
-Immo dies on Celtic MDI (12-4)
-Immo kills Celtic MDI (13-4)
-Knight kills Celtic MDI (14-4)
-Immo kills Roman MDI (15-4)

IBT:
-A Celtic MUSKETMAN shows up.
-The Pikeman in Pasargadae defeats a Celtic Knight and a Roman Legion, (17-4) and…

3ccawmgl4sw1.jpg

WOOT!!!
-Unfortunately, the pike, as well as a Knight, get killed by the Romans soon after. (17-6)
-Pasargadae: Immo->Pike (which shall be rushed)

Turn 7 (1285 AD):
-Immo kills Roman Knight (18-6)
-Immo retreats Celtic Knight
-Knight kills Celtic Knight (19-6)
-Immo kills Roman MDI (20-6)

IBT:
-Lose a Knight and 2 Immos, I forget what killed them. (20-9)
-Persepolis: Knight->Knight
-Pasargadae: Pike->Immo
-Susa: Immo->Immo

Turn 8 (1290 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
At Pasargadae, after several battles, I lose all 5 defending units killing only one attacker, a Celtic MDI. (21-14) Pasargadae has fallen. Again. And this time to China.

Turn 9 (1295 AD):
-An Immo is currently in a hopeless position in the now-Chinese Pasargadae. So I send him to attack the Chinese MDI in the city, which he succeeds at, but another shows up. (22-14)

IBT:
-The aforementioned Immo is killed by a Roman Knight. (22-15)

Turn 10 (1300 AD):
-The Celtic Musket is on our wines, we have a military consisting of a few pikes, and Pasargadae is Chinese controlled. I’d say this position is hopeless.

To be more precise about our military situation, we have one spear, 4 pikes, and 2 Immos. The 2 Immos are way far away guarding colonies, and the spear and one of the pikes are guarding closer colonies. Another Pike is defending Susa, and the other 2 Pikes are defending Persepolis, along with Darius and about 15 slave workers.

Well, I boldly predict we're gonna lose soon. Who's up for a 3rd try on Warlord? :p

Maybe you should have built more pikes, but as I said, it was quite hopeless. A Demigod AW game would be easier than this.

How about a Demigod AW game?

@Rodent-I don't think I'm up for that. I can win on Emperor only with favorable conditions. I think Emperor AW would be pushing my limit, and Demigod would just be too much.

How about this?-3CCAW Regent Small Pang map w/Iroquois. That way we only have to defeat 5(?) rivals, and we'll be able to blitz 'em fast and hard in the AA with Mounties. If we play C3C, we get Agri,
but if you guys don't have it, PtW is fine.

As I always say, the AA is the most important part of the game.

I'd have to scrounge up my Civ 3 CD if we were to play Vanilla-PTW came on my Conquests CD.

K some (hopefully) constructive criticism:

About a couple of weeks after I quit civving, I got bored so I loaded up my 4000 BC save from this game. I'd forgotten pretty much everything about the map. I settled almost the same (my third city was a couple of tiles away), but started on a min run on iron working. I pretty much stopped exploring after I had all 3 cities and after I almost made contact with the French. When iron working came in, I upgraded 4 warriors to immos and sent them towards the French. I caught a settler pair about to settle and wiped them out. I kept pumping out immos and started researching writing (got alphabet from French). I met the Zulus, wiped them out, sent 5 immos north and almost didn't wipe out the Egyptians. I completely missed the Chinese (here's the order in which I wiped them out: French, Zulu, Egypt, Celts, Romans, Babylonians (gdamn jungle), Chinese). I didn't build anything other than barracks, immos, leader-rushed G lib, leader-rushed horseman, leader-rushed galley. The game was over before Math was researched by anyone (I didn't have to fight any swords either).

qoou I suppose this was the regent game?

Yep: we had no chance in the monarch game because we were on a peninsula at the edge of the continent. IMO, starting in the middle would be much better for this type of game. I also almost got a 20K 3CC AWR with Japan: wiping out everyone was much harder, but I was kind of in the middle of the map and iron and horses were inside my borders. I don't think I have the save anymore (I cleaned up when I quit civ), but I think I had a few cavalry (no rails yet), two civs (a 3CC and a 5CC) were still alive, and I needed to start a prebuild for Shake's (AI city that started it got razed a few turns before the save).

I am not picky about the civs, But a AA UU always helps.

@Killerkid

I Understand. Maybe Emperor AW? I suggested Demigod cause then it would be real fun (I like Challenges)

In this i picked up that the moment any player goes on the defensive, he is doomed. If we had taken the Offensive to the AI Quick and fast leaving just a few defenders, they would not be able to respond

Can someone tell me whether our next game will be Vanilla, PTW, or C3C? :crazyeye:

I'm pretty sure I'm coming out of the 'Civ-blahs', so I'll be able to play for the redux redux.

I think if we sent our Immos in both directions instead of exclusively towards the babs, we could've won.

Anyway, I think 3CC AWR on small pangaea with Iros should be quit doable, provided we start near the middle.

lurker's comment: I think you should do another one with the Persians. I think you were on the right track with this one, except that you forgot about 1 thing. And that is minimize losses, by using combined arms. Basically, your initial success with the immortals in the AA was a trap. In the AA, immortals are very strong and the fact that they only have defense 2 is not so important, because you will not have to fight really strong offensive units. When you get into the MA, defense 2 is just not good enough against attack 4 maces and knights. At this stage, you should have added some pikes and trebs to your stack of immos.

Ok, here's the deal:

I think we should continue 3CCing until victory. So far, 2 votes for my Small Iroquois idea (Me and Tassle)

So, if we play PTW, we won't be able to get Ankka. I may be able to get my Vanilla CD, so wait for a post regarding that.

Are the others OK with Vanilla?

lurker's comment: You guys were soooo close to winning this, I think the one thing you missed was using the army for its' ability to pillage. If you had marched either army into enemy territory and pillaged their Iron and Horses, you'd be celebrating rather than doing an autopsy. I agree with ThinkTank, you should try Persia again. If not them, the Iroquois should be fine.

I also wouldn't be able to play if we switched to Vanilla, my vanilla is hopelessy f***ed up.
