Well it's not immediately obvious, after all IIRC some germans would have been captured in the airborne operations of which the earliest was Pegasus Bridge. I'm guessing you could be referring to the Korean guy or something like that though.
Tibetians or something like that. Captured from the USSR and conscripted.

ok now im in a delima.... PH said a korean guy and yes some koreans were captured on normandy.
Zardnaar said conscripts from russia. Now heres what I found.
Among the first "Germans" captured at Normandy were several Koreans. They had been forced to fight for the Japanese Army until they were captured by the Russians and forced to fight for the Russian Army until they were captured by the Germans and forced to fight for theGerman Army until they were captured by the US Army.
not sure whom the winner should be.

They were Koreans who had been captured during the Sino-Russian war, and who were pushed into combat, captured by the Germans, and forced into battle.
The sad thing is, in the 50's, they'd have been forced to fight one of their ex-"liberators".

Yeah the problem was that they weren't *the* first guys captured to be fair. I'm gonna pass up the chance to ask a question anyway.

you know PH im sorry I did say THE instead of SOME OF THE FIRST. My bad.

PH had it 1st. I thought they were tibetians from Soviet central asia and captured by the Germans and conscripted.

No, Not a PH question. Hope you dont mind If i get the ball rolling again

Q how many JadgeTigers were produced during WW2 ?

3 different websites ive found say 85 ( July - December 1944--49 January - April 1945 --36) but my copy of James say 77 too.
UInterstingly enough Hitler wanted them to be falmethrowers, never got to that.

If you're going to put a flamethrower on one why don't you just make it a pill box instead and save on all the engines and stuff :lol:

it was hitlers wish for that to happen.. nobody ever said he was smart

It's not like the allies didn't have their fair share of flamethrowing vehicles.

Difficult question to answer exactly but 81 Jagdtigers were built with "at least" 4 built in May 1945 for a speculative total of 85. 11 had Porsche suspension the rest had Henschel.

Source: Jagdtiger technical History by Andrew Devey. Confirmed by Schwere Jagdpanzer by Walter Spielberger.

EDIT: Just realized the 77 total actually refers to the numbers found on transportation documents. These don't correspond to the numbers actually built though. The last few vehicles were allegedly used directly outside the factory, no transportation documents exist for these last vehicles.

The concept is fine, it's the vehicle I have a problem with. Personally I think that if you're going to make a vehicle as slow and unwieldy as the Jagtiger you may as well just make an A/T gun and a pillbox :mischief:

Give me the Jagdpanther anyday :)

O_0

I thought it was an easy question. My sourse "The Russian Front" Publish in 1999. Shows that only Fourty Eight (48) were every produced.

The 128mm gun could destroy any (allied) tank at almost any range. It was literally a mobile fortress. Due to the extreme weight (not upgrading the engines and simply mounting the massive gun, amour and munition) It was extremely slow.

Yeah, the Jagdtiger was pretty awesome...when it worked...which wasn't very often! It could barely move without breaking some part in its gearbox or drivetrain!

Cidknee was the first to get the answer right though, so he should ask the next Q.

Touche. I've always thought the "wasp" an interesting concept.

Were not the 'wasp' and 'hornet' SP guns, not tank destroyers? :scan:
wasp= Wespe
hornet= Hummel

My favorite was the Jagdpanther :cool: !

The Wasp was a flamethrower vehicle based on the British Bren carrier. But you're right about the Wespe and Hummel being German SP artillery.

I've changed my mind, I hope you don't mind me cutting in cidknee, I would like to post my first Q. :)

What is so unusual about this German StuG machinegunner? :
