The only thing I know about Khimki is that it's a suburb of Moscow that German recon elements are supposed to have reached in 1941.
Spot on...and so why is Khimki significant?

...and what do you think is the connection with Foy-Notre Dame....

Well Foy was the westernmost point reached during the Bulge, Khemki the closest anyone got to Moscow.

But neither were the extreme eastern/western point reached by Germans in the war I'll guess that both were by the same division, 2nd Panzer.

   Excellent, well done (again) privatehudson! (this is turning into a bit of a private quiz isn't it...?!)

Indeed, amazing that 2nd Panzer should be the Division to achieve the deepest penetrations in both Wacht am Rhein and Taifun.

What unfortunate achievement did a Lieutenant Loustalot achieve during WW2?

Nope sorry :)

Not that I'm really sorry you understand, but with that dumb 10 character rule...

;)

wasnt he the chap who took over command when his superior...... cant rember his name was killed @ Dieppe, where he was killed aswell?

ahh yes I KNEW that name was famillar. He was a ranger in ww2. the very first american casualty of ww2 IIRC

It would be very suprising if the first US casualty in WW2 occurred in August 1942 :p

He was the first casualty in land warfare in Europe that the Americans suffered in the war.

of course you are right... i didnt put in, European Land casualty

ok heres a relatively easy one.

name the first woman fighter pilot ot get a kill, country, and what she shot down, and for bonus points, ( imaginary cookie)name her unit and what was so special about it.

My guess she fought for the USSR and her unit was the first all women fighter unit in the world? Perhaps her 1st kill was a Dornier 217?

I'm guessing it was outside the city of Moscow? But I have no idea.

ok well if nobody gets it buy Sunday 1500 (Eastern time) ill post the answer.... BUT no its not Moscow.I will say this, the battle where this had taken place was a MAJOR battle for the sovs, and nobody has named her yet....I thought this was a easy one

Stalingrad?

yup, can u name her? and what she shot down?

I'll say probably a junker 52, and name? I think it was Marina Raskova....

Olga Yamschchikova of the Red Air Force, became the first woman night fighter pilot to score a kill. On September 24, 1942, she shot down a JU-88 bomber over Stalingrad. Olga was a member of the 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment, an all women unit which during the war flew 4,419 combat missions and shot down 38 enemy aircraft. Nearly a million Soviet women served in the armed forces during the war. Most were volunteers and were replacements for the great number of losses of Soviet soldiers. Only a small portion however were directly involved in actual combat

thats the exact answer, but ya'll can fight over who goes next.

(This is Che's question, but I'll venture a Ju-52, flying supplies in)

Hey noncon, please give us a good question to give this thread a 'bump'. ;)

I'll try.

Which ethnic group was (allegedly) preferred for Soviet tank crewmen, and why?
