5 grams - SQUALL

take your time, el-filet. if you feel you can't play in a day or 2, then ask for a skip as your still well within your 72hrs :)

looks like you have some serious thinking to do to get things in shape. i'm sure bede can add opinions on what you see, but we probably need infrastructure very badly atm.

:blush: :smoke:

Got no idea why, or even how, those two towns started on the palaces unless I couldn't decide what to do with them right then :crazyeye:

As for the temples and markets, the temples are our only culture source and the markets are the best we can do to get the luxury rate down and our commerce up.

As for a new government, there was no way to afford the technology needed until the barbarians were dealt with and our treasury was safe.

If we can clean out the barbarian nests in the east we can then turn our attention to the French ann hope to beat some technology out of them while the force in the south deals with the Indians and the Spanish.

150 BC (0):
we're building temples & markets almost everywhere
2 junk cities N are building FP and palace :confused:
making +6gpt with no research and 30% lux - we need a better gov
we're paying 30 gpt to other civs
all our culture comes from palace (220; leader france: 1612)

make some changes, no palace builds, core on market/duct, rest some temples&units
there won't me much reinforcements during my turns, will raze what i can with units we have

IBT:
defeat barb galley
indian SoD arrives near jaipur

130 BC (1):
retreat at jaipur
meet arabs: they're huge; same techs up; 3 excess lux, no horses
up science to 10, fire scientist

IBT:
lose slaves :blush:
barbs behave strangely

110 BC (2):
almost lose elite archer against reg archer

IBT:
lose sword
hovd: settler->settler
batshireet: worker->settler

90 BC (3):
there are more the a dozen barbs NE, but no camp (yet)

IBT:
boot from abu
spot some arab MDI
arabs start sun tzu

IBT:
tabriz: duct->market
choyr: walls->temple

50 BC (5):
whip duct in ta-tu

IBT:
tatu: duct->market
dasrhan: spear->horse

IBT:
ereen riots
lose 2 workers to barbs (start doubting if i already recovered from the flu or what it was...)

10 BC (7):
disperse barb camp
spain build zaragoza next to spices

IBT:
karakorum: market->spear
kazan: settler->settler

10 AD (8):
start suicide run (thought i spotted sea tiles)
found Tosontsengel->temple
some deals ended, plan to self research CoL (about 2/3 the costs)

IBT:
boot from isabella
almarikh: market->horse
erdenet: granary->duct
orleans finishes GLib
koreans start/switch to sun tzu/sistine
arabs switch to sun tzu
spanish switch/start to sun tzu/sistine

30 AD (9):
french build poitiers
raze jaipur

IBT:
some barb attacks
karakorum: spear->spear
lose curragh

50 AD (10):
fail to capture karachi

notes:
FP placement (delhi with leader?)
part of our southern army unmoved (i don't think we'll need it W)
CoL next turn
sent troops to get rid of N barbs
suggest to poprush temple in choy before they die do to disease

Got it. I haven't looked at this in a while, but it sounds like we are doing OK even if we are down a lot of techs. Kind of surprising that the Indians are still around. With all of that real estate at our disposal we will have a monster base once we get out of Despotism and get a second core around the FP. I assume we want Monarchy here, is that the consensus?

Monarchy would probably be a better choice in this game.
and we won't have second core.
in c3c FP does not create a second core but rather extends existing one.
It is not beneficial in c3c to build FP too far from capital

i hoped we'll be able to change to republic. the indians didn't do much damage to us and a expect the same from the spanish for quite a while. same in case we attack the french. i think republic is worth it, at least until we face a strong navy. should help us catching up in tech.

Interesting. Is there a thread or a strategy article you can recommend on this topic?

I am not sure... it should be in the same article that speaks about new corruption mechanism in C3C... I will have to look it up

OK, I will check it out. Thanks!

yes, no 2nd core in C3C. FP drives down distance corruption but not rank corruption, therefore, you want it in your best city. it also drives down overall corruption by increasing your OCN. it's all in Alexman's numbers. best to put it close to the palace if building by hand as it does cost 200 shields. usually good to try for distance 4 to 12, depending on the map size, town, corruption % at the location, etc etc.

5 Grams 50AD

Pre-turn:
- We have 80G, make –1 gpt, COL is due in 1.
- Our forces consist of 1 settler, 13 workers, 9 slaves, 1 warrior, 7 archers, 12 spears, 11 swords, 3 horses, 3 cats. and 2 curraghs. We are rated average vs. Arabs, strong against everyone else.
- We are down COL, Lit., MM and Poly. to Spain, Korea, Arabia and France (along with whichever MA techs they already know).
- Hire a clown in Ta-Tu to prevent riots; adjust lux. to 20% to get us to +3 gpt.
- Rush temple in Choy.

<IBT: COL => MM; Choy temple => worker.>

Turn 1 70AD:
- Kill barb horse near Choyr.
- Moving forces towards remaining Indian cities.
- Lux. to 10% (+7 gpt); MM in 5.
- Everyone knows Republic too; no trades possible.

<IBT: Karakorum spear => horse; Choy worker => cat.; Almarikh horse => settler; Dalandz. duct => spear; Ereen curragh => worker.>

Turn 2 90AD:
- Capture Punjab.
- Atlay founded in NW.

<IBT: The French are building Sistines.>

Turn 3 110AD:
- Whack an Indian settler pair and get a couple of slaves.
- Kill more barb horses in NE.

<IBT: nothing.>

Turn 4 130AD:
- Kill 3 more barb horses in NE.
- Lux. back to 20% (+6 gpt).

<IBT: Karakorum horse => horse; Spanish are building Knights Templar.>

Turn 5 150AD:
- Sword dies attacking barb horse.

<IBT: Lose another sword to a barb horse; MM => Poly. (due in 4); Almarikh settler => spear; Darhan horse => horse; Dalandz. spear => MP.>

Turn 6 170AD:
- Lose a sword vs. Karachi.
- Kill a spear in Karachi; a fresh spear is showing under that one.

<IBT: Another 3 barb horses die attacking sword & archer on a mountain; French building KT; lose a curragh due to an errant key stroke I made last turn.>

Turn 7 190AD:
- Finally disperse the barb camp in the NE.
- Decide to buildup more forces before trying to take Karachi.

<IBT: Barb horses surprise 2 workers near Ta-Tu; Karakorum horse => horse; Baruun-Urt temple => CH.>

Turn 8 210AD:
- Kill an Indian archer by Punjab.
- Disperse barb camp in SE.

<IBT: Arabs and Korea make peace; Almarikh spear => settler.>

Turn 9 230AD:
- Our SOD reaches Chittagong (in the extreme SE).
- Pop goodie hut in S and get a warrior.

<IBT: Poly. comes in, we finally enter the MA; hit big picture, we are down Lit., Republic, Monarchy, Mono., Feud. and Engineering to everyone; decide to trade for Monarchy and Lit. with Korea in exchange for 27 gpt and 133G; set research to Feudalism with a lone scientist, we make +32 gpt now; Koreans are building KT.>

Turn 10 250AD:
- Capture Chittagong and a slave.
- Kill an Indian archer.

We are finally in a position to get out of Despotism. I decided to trade for Monarchy for the added unit support and lower WW. I did not initiate a revolt yet. We may want to change some temple builds over to libraries, I leave that decision to the next player.

The 2 slaves in the extreme S. are running away from a barb warrior to the W of them; the conscript warrior is headed that way to provide protection.

Unfortunately none of our elite victories produced a GL; I was hoping we would get at least one so we could rush the FP instead of building it from scratch – oh well. India is down to just 2 cities, it looks like we will be at war with Spain soon.

got it, hoping to put an end to the indian suffering :)

edit: i cut a couple fingers pretty bad cleaning a food processor blade today so it's not going to get done tonight. hopefully, tomorrow.

FP placement (delhi with leader?)
i think we should build the FP as soon as possible, leader rushed preferred. imo we should build it at least 3 cities away from capitol to get maximum effect. unless we have a great site or just no room (both not the case here) this will help the max number of cities. this is why i suggested delhi, choy would be ok too.

with bigfoot and me (12+ elite kills, guess about the same for bigfoot) not getting a leader, it's time we get one.

i still believe republic would help us more then monarchy, but with monarchy being known i guess we'll revolt to it asap.

we are going for domination i'd say, so we should really fill our continent, there are enought cities to raze on the other one.

Preflight check: Change some minor things, get Ta-Tu’s market in 1T. Switch Karakorn to a Library

IBT: Ta-Tu market -> sword; Tabriz market -> Lib

T1: 260AD Found Uliastay -> temple

IBT: Ereen worker -> worker

T2: 270AD Crap, just realized we have monarchy. Revolt, drawing 6T. Hire a bunch of taxman so we make 15gpt.

T3: 280AD Near Dehli: horse kills archer.

T4: 290AD

T5: 300AD

T6: 310AD

IBT: French building Copernicus

T7: 320AD Near Dehli: elite horse redlines but kills Archer (1/5).
@ Dehli: vet sword dies without scratching spear; elite sword takes 1hp off spear and dies; horseman kills spear (2/4); horseman dies to spear and promotes it (3/4); horseman redlines spear but dies (2/5); horseman kills spear (2/4) attack stalls.

IBT: we become a Monarchy

T8: 330AD Kill a barb horse near Choy, promoting the archer to elite.
Trade: Buy Mono from the French for 21gpt and 223g

IBT: Arabs building Sistines’

T9: 340AD Cat’s go 0 for 3 on Spear in Hyderbad, decide to hold off attack.

IBT: Indians request an audience, show them the hand
Koreans building Copernicus

T10: 350AD Kill a barb horse near Ta-Tu, promoting the sword.
@ Hyderbad: cat’s got 1/3; elite sword kills spear (1/5); elite sword kills spear and we raze the town + get 1 worker
Also, clear a barb camp S of Punjab to collect 25g

Batshireet should probably get razed after it completes it’s settler. It’s cramping Ta-Tu and Hovd too much.

3rd game i am up in...
Will need couple of days to play

pre-turn:
If you guys don't mind i will change all temples builds in the upper part of our continent to libraries.
Temples are practically useless but libraries will help even they will take longer to build.
We should figure out where we want our FP to be build. Choy looks like the best city, but we would need a leader to rush it there.
If someone ever against suggests to play mongols on DG level i will not sign in... :-)
By the time we get our UU Ais will have infantry.

T1. 360AD karakorum Lib -> spear to be change to horse next turn. Darhan horse->market

T2. 370. Attack India next turn

IBT. France is building Leo.

T3. 380 India is no more. Declare on spain, signing MA with France against them for 90gold and 7gpt.
Found two more towns.

IBT. Korea and Spain signed MA against Arabs. Arabs built Sun tzu.

T4. 390AD Raze Vitoria

IBT. Spain longbow attacks our elite sword and dies. Koreans are building COpernicus.

T5. 400AD... pesky barbarians are everywhere. do nothing.

IBT. See French caravels. Barb horses pillaging roads near Calcutta

T6. 410AD Capture town of Valencia. Checking AIs every turn but trades aren't possible.

IBT. Daladzabad riots. Our archer is killed.

T7. 420AD. Fail to capture Pampalona.

IBT. France built KT.

T8. 430AD. Nothing.

IBT. See spanish galley near Hovd.

T9. 440AD. Keep sword and Horse expecting to give warm welcome to approaching spanish galley

T10. 450AD Capture Saragoza. Korea and Arabs have landed settler pairs on our continent as well.
Trades are finally possible but leave it to the next player. I have had very sloppy and quite predictable set of turns.
There are some horses up north to capture pampalona.
once spain is off our continent we will most likely have several centures of cold war before we can actually land on the other continent.
More than two thirds of all fights were elite wins but i was quite unlucky and did not bring us leaders. If leader appears suggest to rush FP on Choy

Our South

i don't mind libraries in towns with less than 50% corruption. however, if corruption is too high, then the library is worth less than the temple in C3C because of the mighty scientist specialist.
