Overall it's a pretty impressive set of charges. The things that impress me the most are:
1) Everyone involved has been charged, instead of one officer taking the fall for it while those who turned a blind eye getting off scott free. If you're going to break trhe blue line this is how.
2) Full gamut of offenses, even the most corrupt jury will have trouble deciding against all of them.
3) "False Imprisonment" I feel this charge was probably the most important and is absolutely the crux of the issue to begin with.

When's the last time something like this happened (to American cops) ?

The real important question is when is the last time something like this happened without a riot? And can we count on it ever happening without one?

I think they are over-reaching, probably purposefully in order to quell the riots.

In the past mostly the state has just paid out million dollar settlements.
I dont see how they will get any charges to stick, maybe its punishment by lengthy public trial.

Not enough.

Riot and looting after the not guilty verdict
NOT before.

They may be going with the far more common purpose for over reaching. Get one to roll on the others.

Most likely. I can't imagine what they could find that would meet the threshold of some of the charges, even though the nature of the physician's testimony and incomplete story from the police make things look pretty bad. There's time for more evidence to come out pushing either direction though.
