Cop Cameras

Nope. If he thought the cop was going to execute him for merely fleeing from a suspended license I doubt he would have moved a muscle.

DuBose figured he could ditch the car and run to some friend's house to hide out. It was his neighborhood and he knew where to go. That way his sister would still get her car back, and he would have escaped a Mickey Mouse pot conviction as well as the loss of the car and the money.

You operate from the mind space where "not moving a muscle" keeps you from getting shot. Not everyone does. With some cops not everyone should.

I have no idea why universities decided to even allow campus cops to carry firearms, much less allow them to detain anybody who isn't a student on campus property. They certainly had far more sense than that back when I was in college. And no, I don't think the incident at Virginia Tech changes that one bit. The campus cops were armed and didn't do a thing to stop it.

That said, I don't think that any cop would be stupid enough to simply execute someone while wearing a video camera unless they knew for certain the fix was in.

He probably thought Tensing was going to drag him out of the car and beat or suffocate him and in a sudden panic he tried to keep the door shut and flee but Tensing shot him before his foot touched the gas.

Or we could assume the obvious answer. DuBose knew there was only one reason why Tensing demanded that he remove his seat belt and step out of the car. And it wasn't to be beaten in public on a city street in a black neighborhood.

You know, Occam's Razor?

You say this as if getting beaten by a cop on a city street doesn't happen, while DuBose was likely well aware that it does. It also happens in the back of police cars, and is a veritable synonym for being "taken to the station." The cop cam doesn't show the cop's face, but it is very likely that DuBose could see "beating pending" written very large on it. Seems very likely that the cop didn't go directly from "smiling reassuringly that this would all work out peacefully" to blowing dude's head off.

Well, we could speculate all day long that modern day Cincinnati is just like 1960s Selma, Alabama. That blacks are frequently spirited right off the streets by uniformed police officers in broad daylight and disappear without a trace. That this was what was troubling DuBose when he turned that key.

I prefer the far more obvious explanation. YMMV.

More and more often I'm finding Form speaking perfect sense. Most curious and alarming at the same time...

I would argue that you were misunderstanding my opinions previously. That I haven't really changed at all with the exception of a few opinions. But I am trying to be a lot more careful what I post here for a reason which should be quite obvious.

Who said anything about disappearing without a trace? You go down to the station, you take a beating, you go your way...no disappearing required. I decided a long time ago that I'll die on the street before they get me in a squad car. DuBose may have come to the same conclusion, either on the spot or ahead of time.

Yes, I actually agree with you. DuBose was probably trying to avoid getting caught driving with a suspended license and didn't want his cash and marijuana to get detected. He wanted to flee, but obviously made no attempt to kill Tensing.

What happens when people start falsifying video evidence using CGI?

We'll be back to square one pretty quickly, imo.

What we need is some kind of effective socialization technique where people are brought up to be honest by default. Maybe.

That is why it is so critical to have an independent review committee. They should even be in charge of the storage of the videos using a methodology which makes them nearly impervious to attempts at deception.

Regarding the matter of honesty, let's just make it a serious criminal offense for any cop to lie under any circumstances. They just love catching the "perp" in a lie because they think it means he must be guilty. So let's use the very same tactics on them.
