A Ban list thread in Site Feedback?

Why dont we ban him?If we discover it IS pellaken becuase he uses dial up we could contact the isp of pellaken.NU_ Why then you changed your adress and location in profile after we where starting to think you where pellaken?Well it is becuase you ARE him.

Settle down philippe :)

I agree that informing people is for the best but we also have to remember this is a fan site and not a job. Once we turn it so that it is joblike the fun of it runs out.

NU_ for a newbie you are showing a lot of interest in CFC decisions....a think that Pellaken loved to do.

Uh, Mr. Athenae, please check our ip's, and you will find they are no where near similar. You have no basis for accusation against me, other than I was standing up for Pellaken after he told me what he was planning on doing. Is it against forum rules to have acquaintances outside of CivFanatics?
Well, let's see:

You come from the same place, post the same way, care about the same things, and your not Pel.

Yeah, right.

Ok...so...you have no real evidence and are guessing. How professional. If you don't like the newbie I suggest you ignore him until he breaks some rules AoA.

On topic I like the idea of a ban list so that I could see who has been banned and why as it would warn people what to expect from certain posters. However, it clearly would need to be a locked thread and no comment threads allowed. If someone appears to be trying to get onto the list on purpose I would adivse a perma-ban.

If the mods don't support this as an entertainment idea... ;)

One thing though - it does apear a bit hypocritical to be against the idea of this thread, yet when someone makes a ban-worthy post that that post is not completely deleted. Instead the mods just edit it. Why?

Its not as bad as the threads usually disappear quickly so it can just be left to inform people who weren't online at the time, why the person was banned and who it was. A permanent thread would show their banning for a lot longer...

The best way to notify the person who was banned would be through email, but since some mods believe that banning don't need to be notified and lots of banned posters said they never received such a mail, it seems that this doesn't happen now and that it would be really hard to implement.

However, the idea given by Eklektikos could work, as it wouldn't function as a record where people would write their name forever and it would work as an informative thread:

Possibly an alternative could be a "Currently Banned Posters" thread, which would let people know that they've been banned and what for but not be a permanent record. That way it would not be so much use as a badge of honour or as a long term mark of shame. Admittedly this might be higher maintenance than TF would want to take on.
So if you still want to implement this banned list TF, that would be the a good way to do it IMHO.

I like the 'currently banned posters' list idea. In that way, nothing is permanent, and, therefore, no permanent bragging rights.

Again, a post on this forum is the only possible way to reach EVERYONE that might be banned, unless they warrant an ip banning.

I am completely and utterly confused as to this location issue. It is, and always was, blank. Unless someone with power edited my account, I have no idea what you are talking about, Alcibiates.

Enough is enough Pel.

You want to fool the membership, go ahead and try.

But PEI is a quite unique location, YOUR location, nobody else had your account (yet ANOTHER Pel excuse, somebody used my account! ).

You have a chance to come clean and admit it, because your fooling nobody.

Is NU_ isn't Pellaken I'll post pictures of me in a kilt!

Who cares if Pel wants to change his id? If you don't like him don't talk to him. The last 2 posts in this thread have been totally off topic...there oughta be some kind of rule against off topic posting and attacking posters.

On Topic it looks like the currently banned posters list is getting some support :)...more work for TF then:(

That's the second time you tried to tell me what to do newbie.
Read the site rules, DLs are PROHIBITED.
So is pretending to be a moderator, so in other words, mind your buisness.
Your not the boss, so give up trying to tell me what to do.

For all our sakes I hope NU_ is Pellaken  .

I think the best thing to do would be to allow banned posters to receive PMs (is it possible to restrict their PMing to just the admin or mods?) and notify them this way of the ban, its reasons, and the evidence. Some people may have elected to not receive emails from the site (there's no way around this, is there?), so PMs are the only private way to notify them, and I think privacy is the best policy here for the same reasons others have given (internet-obsessives trying to get on the banned list, people feeling bad because their banning was broadcast around, etc.).

The main problem I see with doing it through PMs would be banned posters trying to get support from other posters via PMs, which is why I was wondering if it's possible to just allow PMs with the admin or mods. If it's not possible then maybe their PMing privileges could be granted for just long enough to send them the PM and then take it away again, but this would prevent them from sending a PM back if they had questions, which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

Posters on vacation should be able to use the PM now.

BTW, NU_ is perm banned because he's SC.

Well, if NU_ is SC, then he is not pellaken (or is he?), so we want a pic of a KITTEN IN A KILT now!
j/k

On topic:
I don´t know why someone would show a ban as a kind of award and worth getting, but there are definitely such people around. So the ban list would indeed encourage such a thing, but all other means of informing a banned member will lead to further confusement, because some have not received anything. Both PM and email notification can be disabled, so if one of that is used as banning information, then the least that should be done is adding to the rules that PMs or emails are used for that.
:D

Excellent, so we have no need of this any longer.

You mean the same SC that SWORE he would never return?

Did anyone pm Genghisk to let him know why the chess game was closed?
