First off,let me say I have no idea what this is supposed to be.Maybe its a tutorial, maybe its me killing time.(most likely)
This is a record of the first few thousand years of a deity, raging hoardes, small map game.I was fortunate to get fairly nice terrain and did not have bad luck from my first few huts. This may or may not be typical.

Ok here we go

2.42,deity,raging hoardes,7 civs,medium map,standard rules and all else random.

4000-no specials in sight but a nice river.Time to do a little exploring. click

3850-3 turns in and now we are set. click

3800-Here is the beginning of civilization. We have settled a river basin with 2 specials in the capitol. click .First goal is Monarchy and to that aim we select Alphabet-3 turns.First thing to do is build warriors since we did not find any huts yet.

3650-Alphabet researched select Ceremonial Burial

3600- click 1st warrior ready in Rome.Time to explore to the west to see if the special pattern is there.

3550-warrior in Veii ready. Will clear city radius first.

3400-Burial done but the 3rd prequisit for Monarchy(Code of Laws) is not offered. This is normal. You will have to reseach at least 1 non Monarchy tech so we choose Bronze Working for-A.a wonder to start-B.better defenders.C.we need to get more rows of sheilds available for rush building later. The second warrior from Rome ready 3 turns before size 2..This one will stay home.Rome will build a settler. We spend 8 gold to "rush build" the 2nd warrior in Veii.It will also begin a settler.

3250-the cities reach size 2.Veii produces 3 sheilds and 2 science beakers.Rome-4 sheilds and 2 beakers. Our citizens are working the whale and 3 sheilded river grass squares.
We have more of the map cleared. There is a good site west of Rome in the middle of 3 specials.Notice the pattern. click

3200-switch to warriors-buy them-switch back to settlers. We haved saved a few turns here.
Finally a hut near Veii. click

3150-the hut gives 50 gold. Now we have a little cash to rush build a settler in Rome. That will be done next turn.It will nearly empty the treasury but it is going to save oodles of turns.

3000-Rome builds a settler and starts another warrior. click Another hut is in view.It gives another 50.We rush the settler in Veii.

2950-Bronze Working is discovered and Code of Laws is offered.
Veii builds a settler and starts another. However it produces no sheilds. We need to free the cites of support by building 2 more cities. The Veii warrior has discovered another good 3 special site with a whale. click

2800-Our 3rd city is founded. We will re-support the Veii warrior.

2750-our other settler and warrior are in position for city # 4. The same re-supporting will be done.Meanwhile we rush a warrior in Rome and switch to a phalanx.

2700-we rush the phalanx once again nearly draining the treasury,Thats what gold is for.USE IT EARLY.

2650-Rome now has 2 defenders and will begin The Collosus. The original 2 warriors will continue to explore.

2600- click Another hut. Also more specials near Antium.Looks like a good spot for a city.Antium will build a settler for that once it completes it’s warrior,That warrior will remain in the city.

2550-the hut gives 25 gold.We are getting pretty lucky with gold and no non Monarchy pre-requisits from huts.Too many can be disastrous. If we get more than 2 before Monarchy, then we will stop entering until Monarchy is done.

2500-we discover Code of Laws and Monarchy is offered.Perfect. click

We also contact the Carthaginians. click We make peace and offer to trade tech but we would not do it.We just want a looksy.Remember any tech gained now will add turns onto Monarchy's research time which is currently 10 turns. They say no, so either they have what we have or we have whatever they have.We make peace for now.
We rush a phalanx in Veii and switch back to a settler. click We need to get a city near the spot where contact took place. There is a river and we must lay claim. They could be near there. We won't be hemmed in!

2450-Cumae finishes a warrior and starts a settler.Starting to see a routine?A whale has been uncovered and we want it. click

2400-It takes 37 of 51 gold to rush the settler in Veii.We consider this a good investment.

2350-settler from Veii heads out NW.Veii will build another settler.

2200-another hut gives 25.This gives us gold to rush a phalanx-switch to settler in Antium which is now size 2. click We need to finish that settler before the city reaches size 3 or we get disorder.
click Cumae is about to reach size 2 so we move our worker to the silk forest knowing the game will assign the new worker to the highest food producing square. If we leave it,the new worker will appear on the unsheilded grass square. We lose production.A tiny amount-yes-but everything is magnified at this stage so it counts. click

2050-Our settler/warrior combo is set to claim a fertile region. click This city will build a phalanx first.

2000-We discover Monarchy but we do not revolt.oedo's research tells us that we can only change governtments in certain years without the Statue of Liberty. The pattern is xxx0 meaning-3850-3650-3450-3250 etc.We have to wait until 1900bc to revolt so we fall on the "oedo year" of 1850bc.
1950-we found Neapolis click ..but whats this?! click ..Veii is about to revolt. That is because we just exceeded the city limit of 4 under Despotism on small map deity games. We need to remove a worker for an Elvis until we make the switch to Monarchy.I'll let you figure out what that limit is.
1900-we hold our revolt. We trade the Carths for Writing.
1850-Monarchy established.Things look good. click We have land to settle.Rome is about to go size 3 and has almost a third of a 200 sheild wonder done. We're off to a decent start. The barbs will be showing up soon....Good luck

This looks like an illustrated timeline to me!

That is a lovely report on your game.

------------------
I am disrespectful to Dirt! Can you not see that I am serious?

You've opened pandora's box now... we want the contining story! Great stuff, very educational.

One thing that caught my eye: not a single road or irrigation. Is that typical with Deity games, or just because you had the rivers to compensate?

And BTW, how do you get terrain like that? I'm playing a large random map game (default settings) where I've explored at least 3/4 of the map and I don't think I've seen that many river squares total, let alone on my first 5 cities!

There are some who call me...Tim

The terrain was pretty good and that is not always the case.Just good luck there.
Although this was random, making a customized world with wet,warm,5 billion years will usually give a fair amount of rivers and specials. Also mountains and hills.

Roads are bypassed early in favor of more cities.Rivers or no rivers.I will connect with roads but not until 6-8 cities are down. Then settlers will start roading. If I see a good or strategic(chokepoint) spot,I'll try to claim it ASAP though.

Irrigation has no effect under Despotism so I don't do it in regular games until after Monarchy. Then I will start with specials like wheat and buffalo. On deity there is no use growing cities too big until you have unhappiness under control unless you like Elvi'.You will need irrigation(generally) for the switch to Republic.I will only irrigate a few squares in each city.Enough to support a size 8 city in Republic first.Later I'll do more as I prepare to take cities to size 12.

Rivers are great. They speed everything up.2 beakers to start.50% defensive bonus.Better movement. Most desirable.

I didn't build my capitol on the river in order to reach the specials.Someone did some tests and found a few turns spent finding some specials was well worth it.I really have hard time founding my capitol without specials. Not as vital if you ICS.

oedo year-I,myself asked several times at several sites why government changes were either instant,1,2 or 3 turns to complete. Many different theories emerged with "its random" being most popular.A brilliant young civer known as oedo rejected that and set about to find the answer.HE DID!..and it was painfully simple when revealed.

It is xxx0.
x-won't switch
x-won't switch
x-won't switch
0-will switch
ie:4000bc and you have Monarchy. You revolt.xxx0 means the revolution will be complete in 3850bc so we might as well wait until 3900bc to revolt.Thsi info completely eliminates the extended revolution.

I posted a list of "oedo years" for Deity and King levels in the old Fanatic forum and I think Thunderfall put it in the War Academy somewhere.

I didn't get any units from huts before building so the first warrior is used to start exploring. The 2nd is needed to make citizen #2 content(martial law).Only 1st citizen is content to start on deity.

You need Trade to build caravans. The Collosus will be finished before then. All wonders after Trade will be built with caravans/freights naturally.

IMO-in regular solo games, gold should be spent early.Incremental rushing saves lots of turns at the beginning.Allows you to slap down 4-6 cities usually before the ai has 2.Early expansion is a big problem for the ai.I see no reason not to exploit this. Not including OCC of course.
You should be able to get tribute of some kind on first contact so more gold will come thru that and/or huts.4 cities generate more gold than 2.
