We have a separate download database, which has some advantages over attachments to posts:
- It allows bigger attachments
- You can replace an upload and it will keep your download stats
- everything is neatly in one place
- We already have subcategories in there

You can add a new "resource" if you click on any of the subcategories, the button is on the top right.

is there a documentation for the database ?

for example what's the difference between "Release a new version" and "Post an update" ?

Oh... I am not sure . When I uploaded stuff regularly we vere still on vbulletin :old:.

It seems that "release a new version" allows you to upload a new file.
"Post an update" is only for the description of an item.
At least as far as I can see right now.

ho, I suppose "update" make sense when linking to an external download, where the new file is released.

How do you attach the thread in released mods subforum as resource discussion? Some have managed to do that. I did not...

"Additional information URL" at the bottom

"Additional information URL" at the bottom
I can't seem to figure this out. I created a release/download. Then created a thread/post in Released Mods. Then pasted the URL for that thread/post in the Additional information URL", but they're not connected.

I have to say I do not know where Gedemon found that menu.
For me, if you go to the resource, on the top right is a menu with 3 dots.
One of the options is "change discussion thread", where you can put in the URL.
Oh, no clue if that is only an option for moderators though.

Moderator option it seems. No ”change discussion thread” option for basic users in there.

Last mod I uploaded was back in 2016. Not sure how they got connected back then? Maybe a mod was just doing it as they saw them.

...crap.
So the option Gedemon described will give a button on the right for "more information" or "get support", which then links to the respective thread.
The other option which @PoundedChicken is asking for... I actually can't find it for normal users. It seems indeed that it is as @Riconatic points out only a moderator permission, but it can't have been in the past, as @PoundedChicken must have linked the thread in his first resource himself. We did change software in the meantime, Xenforo v1 to v2, so this might have changed it.
I cannot find this option in the admin panel, means I don't have really any options to give someone these permissions.
Guess I need to fill a bug report at the provider -_- .

it was automatic at the time, with download db and forum having the same categories IIRC
