A Fantasy Mod Planning/Recruitment

Mmm...that makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of that last night. Maybe we could do it via UAs?

Technically it shouldn't be a big problem to do it, the problem is to set the parameters in a balanced way, so they aren't too strong or too weak compared to other civs.

But I like the idea of one civ having less cities. We can increase their unhappiness per city significantly, but this needs careful adjusting too, because we need to set the right values of unhappiness per city both when using my happiness system (which is going to be an optional component), and when not using it.

Yeah. Sounds to me like it's something that bears a lot of testing.

In the new year I'm going to restart working on the mod intensively, and create a new thread for it. I need that thread because:

(1) I need to reserve the first few posts for detailed information about the mod.
(2) I'm going to change the name of the mod.

The new name is going to be "Chronicles of Adea". "Adea" is the name of the world, that is going to be also used in my own game I'm working on, which is called "Kingdoms of Adea" ("Adea" sounds a bit similar to Pazyryk's "Éa", but I "invented" that name long ago, independently of his mod's name.) Also I've created some lore/story about that world, which I will post in the new thread as well. Of course the team members will be encouraged to take an active role in the mod development, and post their ideas in the new thread.

So if nobody objects, I'll create the new thread tomorrow. In the new year I'm going to spend much more time working on the mod, so we can release an alpha version as soon as possible.

For an undead/necropolis type faction, you could have them earn faith for units killed and can buy undead units with faith. Or something like faith, bones maybe. It would be alot simpler than placing new units on the map.

Speaking of HoMM, I always liked how the necropolis faction wasn't evil so much as just want to be left alone to do necromancy stuff. Their "evil" being no greater than ambitious warlords or vengeful sorcerers of other factions. I also liked the rune magic the dwarves had in HoMM5. The whole "dwarves use axes, not magic" is really cliche.

This is not a bad idea. All civs are going to summon some kinds of units (probably the available types will depend on civ, techs researched, and beliefs) for mana (renamed faith), so the unique thing about the Undead would be the kinds of units that can be summoned, and the fact that they get mana for kills, which is quite a reasonable idea IMO.

Judging from the comments here an Undead faction is quite "popular", so I think we can add it to the alpha, using the idea you proposed - getting mana for kills (we can always change it to a more complicated UA later). If only there was at least one Undead unit model available...

As for the Undead in HoMM, I can't comment this as I haven't followed the storyline in these games so much. As for the Dwarves, they definitely should have some kind of magic available, although their main focus should be "brute force" and machines.
