Hello.
Something fun just happened to me.
Playing Egypt, being in the early middle age, I was in need of a production boost for some important projects (Bach etc). I decided the best way was to trigger my GA.
I happened to have what seemed to be very lousy neighbors almost waiting to be crushed: the Zulus. They had only 6 mid size cities and were extremely backward. They had no resources. All I could see were impis and archers.
I moved 5 war charriots toward them, along with 8 knights to sustain the war effort until peace could be signed.
And on we go... On the first turn of war, I butchered several low-tech units, razed a city and, most importantly, I got my GA. Great.
But I had neglected a "small" detail... True, the Zulus had neither horses nor iron... But they had ivory! See my point?
On the next turn, 12 ancient cavs come out of nowhere with fire in their eyes.
Now, here comes the "fortunate exception": we all know as an unpleasant rule that the AI knows were your troops are and always aim for the least defended target.
Most of my troops had sustained slight damage on turn 1 and were healing in the city closest to the border. A few tiles away, I had 4 completely undefended cities, including my capital.
Well, I still don't know why, but the Zulu SOD decided to attack the city where my troops were resting after the first round of battle. There were 8 knights with an average 3 HP, and 2 vet pikemen. The city had walls and the Zulus had to attack accross a river... Predictably, They lost all combats but three, and on the next turn I easily finished them off.
The fun is that in two turns I went from overconfidence to despair, then back to a very good laugh...
