No they are not. They are hypersensitivities. They are not a disease either.

Autoimmune means that the body attacks it's own cells. Allergies do not make the body attack itself, it attacks the allergen.

One should be able to figure out the difference between scratching one's finger and cutting it off.

I'd use it a great deal. 99% of the time I'd use it as a rice substitute. Now, my current diet is very grain-lite, so I don't actually use it much, but I have in the past. If there's something I'd eat with mashed potatoes or with rice, I'd use keenwa instead. I prefer slow-digesting carbs, and I prefer high fiber. The idea of it being a 'complete protein' is interesting too.

My sister is allergic to it, making it annoying when we get together as a family. We're going to a cottage for a week, all of us.. I get to cook dinner for everybody on Monday - I had to figure out how to make a meal that's gluten, mango, soy, and milk free. Almost impossible but I pulled it off
Has she been tested for parasites or even the bacterial balance in her gut?
The test isn't covered by medicare because of the medical lobby not because it's invalid.

I know for fact I felt some of the worst cramps when exposed to Wheat. Now, that I avoid it I feel a lot better. One previous Dr. recommended that I keep a food journal to note how my body reacted to certain foods. My worst days were always after eating Wheat products, especially whole wheat cereal.

There's a good PDF on how food allergies work.

To answer the other question posed. I eat healthy foods, but it does cost a bit more.

The problem is that we know so little about the digestive system and yet it is one of the most important systems in your body, since it is the first contact of all nutrients for the body and thus we should have seriously been looking into what it an healthy gut much longer, but it is only recently that things have seriously improved in this area, but it is still a disgrace the state of digestive health. Even with two costly tests, they haven't fully found out how I got what I have. I have done a proper parasite test that showed up two parasites, that the standard plain stool test constantly didn't find and thus many times the doctors proudly declared that I was fine, which is a major problem with those suffering from a parasite, but the proper test found that I had two parasites. Also I have done another test that test the bacterial balance in the gut and it found that basically my bacterial balance was shot to pieces. The good bacteria were almost none existent and bad ones were predominate. In fact it was so bad the doctor has only seen 4 other patients with as bad of bacterial problems as I have and those who did have similar diagnosis basically were in constant stomach pain, thankfully my stomach pain wasn't constant. But the thing is they don't know what caused the massive imbalance in my digestive system. But considering all the digestive products out in the market, it is a far bigger problem that it has been considered and I think it is one of the biggest challenges facing modern society. While digestive problems generally don't kill, they are very restrictive and in my case it has destroyed my life as I know it.

The reason I am saying all this is that Quinoa is meant to be gluten free and that is often causes problems, but when I tried the stuff it had the same effect n my gut as products with gluten, that it made me sick and the other symptoms. So whatever is wrong with my digestive tract has massive implications.

You might be an actual candidate for a fecal transplant.

edit: I am saying that with all seriousness, it's something that might help balance our gut biota.
