A new idea for a leader

Some sort of evil psionic-type civ, maybe. So the reason the leader gets more and more is that he absorbs the minds of others and add their knowledge and power to his/her own. It could work with souls too. Could be an undead leader, or demonic, or just someone who meddles in dreadful and eldritch knowledge Man Wasn't Meant to Know Of!

If evil isn't wanted (*grumble*), it could be a neutral leader who have access to some sort of device or ritual that increases his power. But that's not as cool as a soulsucking braineater ;)

It might be cool to introduce an extra late game civ. Why not bring in an evil psionic civ immediately when Pass Through the Ether is first researched? Civ would prefer to appear on empty territory, is also Barbarian friendly, and if no free territory is available, take over the smallest non-island city of the largest civ (without a wonder or holy city).

If such a civ was brought into the game at pass through the ether they'd end up with the same problems as the Mercurians (just sit there and turtle) because of how late in the game PttE comes in.

Concerning Decius I really think he should get some twist (because now he is quite boring), so I think the idea of Pretender is really good and would differenciate him from the other Civs. But I really think he shouldn't gain the traits by destroying a civ, but by vassalizing them. His greating is "Thrones sit easily beneath me." so likes to have loyal worshipers under his rule. I don't know if it scriptable, but the vassalized leader could lose a trait of the player's choice and Decius could gain this trait. Another possibility would be to let him choose his alignement not just at the beginning, because by then it does often not really matter at all, because you don't know the alignement of your enemies.

Concerning the civilization connected to my leader idea I think a new Shapeshifter civ would be the best solution. Equally to their leader you could adjust the race of the civilization after a certain time or after some sort of infilitration. So if you chose the Svartalfar unit models and you managed to use hidden nationality on them by some way, noone would know if it was you or the Svarts (quite interesting in MP *g*). Elves, Centaurs or Orcs (combined with hidden nationality) would be a good choice (and maybe some other later added races :)).

nice suggestions about decius. you could make it so that his "choose alignment" works the same as the Adaptive trait, i.e. you can choose to change alignment every 100 turns. that would be neat ;)

Economic advisor: Leader, today morning our rangers spotted hell terrain stepping over our (cultural) borders!
Decius: Nonsence! I selected "Good" aligment yesterday.
